"I own a home where my father lives. It is 50 miles away from me. My 87 year old father called me after 6pm, on a Friday night, saying that it was 85 degrees in" his house. I told him to call
, sure enough he said he would be there is 15 minutes. That makes his company a
in my book, but there is more. The A/C capacitor was bad, he had that part, but some sort of motor was out. He did not have that part, the earliest he could get it would be the next morning. Most of those big A/C companies would have been done with my father for the night.
went to his storage area and got something that would work as long as the hose ran on it. This guy definitely knows his stuff, and was creative in coming up with something that would keep my father from sweating it out tonight. I have used him as my A/C guy for a long time, he has helped me out of several of those situations throughout the years. If you live close to the
area, this guy needs to be your A/C guy.

Hiring an HVAC service

The awkward-to-pronounce acronym stands for "heating, ventilation and air conditioning" which in many respects are completely different processes.

HVAC Maintenance

You can help your heating and cooling systems work more efficiently and last longer by tending to regular maintenance. Some things, like changing the furnace filter, can easily be done by the homeowner.

what should you pay.  You pay what you can afford.  1100sqft unit requires a min. of a two ton unit.  prices range from 2100-2900 depending upon the seers of the system.  13 seer is the min. the law requires  and for your situation with 1100 sqft.  do not worry about the seers as long as it is to code.  the bigger the house the more seers for economy.  1100 sqft is at the border line for a two ton system.  It is more important to have your new system balance, there is where you get the economy on your electric bill and gas.  Bryant, lenox, ruud and carrier are the brands you should stay with. All have the same basic factory warrantee and will last you longer than you expect as long as you maintain it with regular check ups twice a year once in the spring and then in the fall.

The only thing of importance, is the hvac professional you choose to use. Alot of manufacturer's pieces are built relatively the same, and will last about the same amount of time. The thing that matters most is what you can not compare between companies, and that is the installation. Purchasing a system is not like purchasing a car, where no matter where you buy it, they are all the same. Each installation is different, and usually what you are paying for is the level of expertise, and quality of the installation, the company who will actual give you the warranty, and the comfort that you will receive. Manufacturers warranties disappear every day. They always have a loophole where they can get out of paying, but your local dealer wants to keep you happy for future work, and to protect his reputation in the communiy. Look up 4 year old Nordyne and Goodman warranty problems. Choose the HVAC professional first. It will cost you the least in the long run. I have had to totally redo plenty of installations that were just performed because of an uncomfortable customer, and a system that keeps breaking down. The equipment is only as good as it's installation, and over 70% are not installed correctly.
?
Yes Jupiter. It depends on the severity of the situation, is the mold encapsulated in the insulation. If yes, than replace [insulation] it with new. Is it on the casing of the heater? If yes, clean it with a mold neutralizing metal cleaner. It's not a matter of finding something or someone to clean or address the existing mold. It's a matter of finding a contractor to rectify what is causing the mold grow. It's coming from excessive moisture in the air-handler unit. I can say with 100% surety you’re dealing with poor airflow and/or incorrect equipment sizing! Either issue will cause excessive icing of the evaporator coil, which leads to excessive condensate water in the system. The condensate will eventually overflow the drain pan leaving stagnant water in the air-handler housing, which leads to mold growth. I would not let any contractor do any kind of temporary repair, add any device like a UV light or air-cleaning product until the aforementioned is corrected. I talk a lot about this in my videos and on my website. It is the result of improper system design from unqualified contractors. There is a reason why some guys cost more than others, and this is one reason why!

?
I'd rate them equal,or close,as with several other brands. I'd be more concerned about the difference in installation and service down the road. Difficult to determine the difference ,but asking for detailed info about their installation, may convince you to choose one over the other.

The Dept. of Energy states that poor installations can cause a 30% efficiency loss! Plus with Gas their are saftey issues, venting properly etc.,and of couse the need for a "low Level" Carbon Monoxide Alarm.
?
I think maybe you are confusing SEER, which is an efficiency-related rating (higher SEER means more effective use of the electric power used to compress the gas), and TONS rating, which is a measure of the total cooling power of the system. (Tons used to mean how many tons per hour of ice was used in evaporative cooling building systems - a Refrigeration or Cooling Ton equals 12,000 Btu/Hour of energy exchange. A BTU, which is another antique measure but still used, is the energy needed to change the temperature of a pound of water one degree fahrenheit. Unfortunately, because of varying humidity and evaporation, this is not readily related to house air heating or cooling without a lot of assumptions and some computations. Relating this to today's world - the Manuals BayAreaAc referred to account for all these energy conversions and determine an estimated cooling (or heating) requirement for your specific house. The type of construction, solar exposure, general climatic conditions such as average temperatures, humidity, and hottest and coldest normal ambient temperatures and desired inside temperture are all taken into account in the more sophisticated versions of the analysis, so there is no "standard", though a rough old rule of thumb was about 1 ton of cooling per 500SF of house. Obviously, this was a WAG only because it did not account for insulation, type of roofing, whether you live in Alaska or Miami, etc. The ACCA manuals do a very simplified form of evaluation to arrive at a "design", which generally will be adequate. OF course, highly precise calculations are not really needed because A/C units generally come in even ton ratings - so if you are at say 2.6 ton requirement you will be getting a 3-ton unit anyway. SEER ratings are not a direct measure of efficiency, but the relative difference between ratings gives you good idea of the unit's relative efficency in using electricity - so a 16 SEER should be about 19% more efficient (so roughly comparable lower electricity bill) than a comparably sized 13 SEER unit. 13 SEER is the lowest efficiency currently allowed to be built for general use, 19 SEER is about the highest efficiency made by pretty much all manufacturers, and about 25 SEER is the highest rated though very pricey shelf-item units, though special construction custom units can reach about 30 SEER. Note however, like any government sponsored rating, much of it is hooey when you get down to it - for instance, SEER ratings are figured based on 80 degree inside air temp and 82 degrees outside, when that is far from the normal case of mid to low seventies inside and high eighties or above outdoors. This makes the absolute SEER rating meaningless, but relative numbers still have meaning in comparing units. Note these efficiency ratings are for conventional air conditoners and heat pumps working in ambient air conditions. Ground sourced Geothermal or lake/river exchange cooling units, though initially more expensive in most cases, can greatly exceed the air-exchange unit efficiencies because they are exchanging heat with cold natural water rather than with a high-temperature outside air, and instead of continually compressing a gas are just circulating cold water. I worked on one geothermal cooling project which had almost infinite efficiency, which of course makes no sense - but the only power was for sensors and a control valve as the water flow was single-pass under gravity flow, so no power was used to circulate the water.

We have my father-in-law's house up for sale and decided we should get the furnace and a/c cleaned and inspected. The repairman was pleasant. He showed me that there was a crack in the heat exchange and that we needed to get the furnace replaced. I explained that we were selling the house and that we didn't want to put a lot of money in a replacement. I went ahead and had him inspect the a/c and he stated that it needed $200 of repairs done to it. He gave me a bottom price of around $7000 to replace both the furnace and a/c. I told him that I needed to talk to my husband 1st. We decided to get other estimates. It ended up that we were able to replace the furnace for $1700 with another company and there was absolutely nothing wrong with the a/c. It is actually working great right now.

Our A/C system is still under manufactures warranty so there was no charge to repair it. The technician diagnosed the problem quickly and had to order parts. When the part came in, another technician replaced the leaking coil quickly with no problems. Our A/C system is back to working like it should. They were very professional, friendly, and explained everything they were doing. I did

them down on responsiveness because the first time I called they took my information and never contacted me back, I had to call back a week later. I would recommend

It went awful, Dominion sewer line repair is awful as well and we are still with out plumbing 7 days later. I've had to call a handful of additional plumbing outfits and I am being told they will come Monday but, at this rate, 7 days is too late due to a lack of professionalism.

I called Bomgardens on a Thursday morning, they came out that day! The service person met my husband at our house. He looked downstairs and checked out the circuit board. He saw that there was a blown fuse. He said usually if there is a blown fuse, there is a short somewhere. He went outside, looked at the unit and saw where the insulation had come off from around the wiring and rubbed up against the metal and shorted out. He ran the wiring through another area, changed the fuse, and fixed it!! He was here less than an hour and charged $78.00! I was so worried we were going to have to buy a new unit since it is older. Was very happy with a $78 charge! Loved that they came out the same day too!! I will call them in the future for sure!

was one of several bids for replacing our whole system which was 17 years old. Needed new A/C and furnace. Not the highest or lowest bid (they were all fairly close) but the equipment (

) seemed a bit better than the others offered. Its hard to get reliable reviews on A/C equipment, much to my surprise....More /> Had a bit of trouble with scheduling, although to be fair everyone in town was booked at this time. Once that got straightened out, and they did provide some incentive for the problem, it went smoothly.
Two man crew, one full day. They did cover the flooring, although a bit hard as everything had to go in a very small attic space. Took all day, as they had said. One installer was obviously an apprentice. But, his supervisor checked everything (I listened) and then another senior supervisor came in the late afternoon to check on everything. Pretty confident in the installation.
They removed all the old equipment and cleaned up well, vacuuming the floors, too. Works perfectly now - although haven't tested the furnace yet.

I purchased the $40 deal on Angie's list. It turned out this did not apply since the unit was not working. The repair man was not able to repair the unit and had to call in back up help. The second repair man installed a start capacitor and the unit worked fine. The total charge for repair was $330. I have since found out that a capacitor repair should be done for under $200. The invoice was not itemized for service or parts provided. It merely showed an additional charge of $290. I feel I was overcharged.

They showed up on time for the initial appointment and were very helpful in the process of deciding which system to install. They offered several options and gave the pros and cons for each, and what work would need to be done to install them. They arrived on or before schedule and completed the job quickly and efficiently. Their estimate was competitive with other companies and their commitment to service really shined. The whole process was pretty easy. They even helped with the loan process, provided all the necessary paperwork, and helped file work for the rebates after the install. I would definitely recommend them.

I chose this provider because he had a deal and he had good reviews. I was a little nervous because there was a window time frame of his arrival and he came towards the end of that frame. However, once he arrived, he did the job (checked the temperature of the cooling system, cleaned out the unit on the outside of the house) and educated me on a few things dealing withe a/c unit. He made some recommendations and I would use him again. He was very straight forward and I liked his "keep it real" attitude.
I can't tell if the unit is running better than before, but there is a peace of mind knowing that I got it done.
