I chose Thrifty because they were willing to come and fill the tank up when I called them. I had heard that a lot of other companies were unwilling to do that. Instead you were expected to enter into some sort of contract with them, where you would agree to purchase a certain amount of propane per month, based on some estimate of typical consumption and if you used less, you still had to pay for the full amount. I didn't like the sound of that, so I chose the first company I called that was willing to deliver without a contract. That's why I like them. I do my best to heat the house with a wood
My spouse on the other hand does not like Thrifty and has asked me to find a different service. This past winter, we ran out of propane 3 times. It's difficult to say if I or Thrifty were at fault (I'm willing to share the blame). The problem is this. Thrifty has a partial fill charge. This means that if the tank is not almost empty when they arrive to fill it, you are charged a penalty. Exactly how low the level must be in order to avoid the penalty is not clear (varies based on whoever answers the phone). Well, I've ended up paying it more than once so I tend to wait until it's very low before I call them. I've gotten pretty good at judging when we will run out of propane. And if Thrifty delivered within the time interval they advertise, we would never run out. But they don't. With Thrifty, the truck might show up the day after I call or up to 25 days later (yes. that has happened). If a cold big cold snap is coming, except substantial delay. They really do get swamped. Calling customer support sometimes helps and other times it's futile.
Personally, I think delays are par for the course when you are having heating fuel delivered to you in an expanding urban area. For me, Thrifty is a known quantity, and I'd rather stay with them then take my business elsewhere.
Because they had this tank in place I agreed to use them for refills and wanted to have another tank installed. Thank goodness they decided to send me a bill for the gas in the tank before I had them install anything else. I visited them 5 times to get the problem solved and they finally admitted that AFTER I had closed they decided to refund the prior owner for the gas which legally conveyed to me just like the well water and electric meter did. Immediately when the problem arose I had the tank disconnected and bought a tank which some other company services now.
After a winter of threats from them I finally was able to speak with a higher up in Texas. I simply explained the situation and said if they showed me a receipt from after 21 August I would gladly pay it and if not gave them permission to just take the tank and leave me alone if they would give me a zero balance due receipt. I would take the loss on the gas I paid for at closing. They apologized and after a few months they took the tank.
Now to really crap on a disabled veteran they are sending me bills for emptying the tank and
Would Angies List please help me in this. I really am a DAV with a terminal bone disease and do not wish to pass this garbage on to my wife. They absolutely cannot show a delivery receipt since I purchased the house and now the letters are threats to
