had previously done work on our problematic gas fireplace and I had been very happy with their company. I trusted them. Now I know that I should have done my own research from the start. I believed that more insulation would be good for our 60 year old home and for the environment by requiring less energy to heat and cool our home.
was the person in charge of planning our job and
and another one or 2 men did the work in fall of 2012.
This summer (2014) I went into the attic on a hot day to look for something and noticed that it was terribly hot.
than it had ever been in the 26 years that we have lived in the house. I got worried and started doing some research on line and keeping records of the temperatures inside and outside the attic. On the worst day it was 96 degrees outside and 130+ degrees inside my attic!! The thermometer does not
higher than 130 degrees. From my research on line I learned that a well vented attic will be from 15-20 degrees
than the outdoor temperature. The high temperatures waste energy, speed the deterioration of attic shingles and make the guarantee of the shingles
& void. In the winter the poor ventilation increases the risk of moisture and mold growth in the attic.
My husband and I spent much time researching the internet about attic ventilation and attic temperatures and the proper ways to preserve ventilation with the addition of insulation. We further investigated the layout of the new insulation in our attic and noticed that it was piled so high around the exterior edges where the roof slopes down to meet the exterior walls that it touched the underside of the roof thus interfering with proper ventilation. There are soffit vents all the way around our hip style roof that are supposed to let cooler air into the attic that then flows out the ridge vent at the top of the attic. I never wanted to learn so much about attics, roofs, shingles, soffits, baffles and insulation. I thought the company installing the ventilation would know and do the proper things.
(*additional note) Immediately after the job was completed in Sep of 2012 when they showed me the work they had done I noticed, what I later learned were baffles, installed on the underside of the roof. Eight didn't seem like very many in such a big attic space to I asked for more to be installed. They put in 8 more per my request. My thinking at the time was that twice the number 'the experts' planned for would surely be adequate. I didn't think more about the attic until I went up there on a hot day this summer.
I called the company four times over a couple of weeks. I spoke with
twice and
twice. They were always nice but had no answers or attempts to fix my problem. Initially I was willing to pay one of their staff to come and improve the situation in our attic but never got a call back. Then I sent a letter to
in the office with a copy to
who I presume is the owner of the company. Again I got no response!!!
I no longer have high regard for this company. I would NOT HIRE THEM for attic work again.
I have pictures from our attic that show the problem.

They were great. Informative, showed up on time, finished earlier than expected, were able to come out and give me a quote very quickly and had the job completed within a week from my first phone call.

I had 2 months of outrageously high heating bills this winter, not to mention ice dams building constantly. I learned the majority of the problem was heat escaping through the roof due to lack of insulation (I live in a very old home). Century advised me of what could be done (adding blown insulation) and fixed some venting issues, and I noticed a quick change in how often my furnace kicked on which meant I was saving money. I do notice it now in the summer as well, house gets cooler faster and stays cooler longer. I'm sure it has already paid itself off in energy savings - I noticed a drastic drop in my heating bill the following month after having the work done. They guys were neat (laid floor coverings even when I said they didn't need to) and vacuumed and cleaned up everything when they left. They were on time, did what they said they were going to do and were polite. Couldn't have asked for anything more. I also had shopped around price wise, and
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
came in significantly lower than the others I talked to. Great service at a great price - highly recommend!

In a nutshell, everything went perfectly well - I only wished all my dealings with contractors went as well in terms of exceeding expectations. I had an energy assessment from the local utility (
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
), and they provided me with a list of contractors that they work with (they do a spot check on contractors afterwards to insure quality). I contacted four contractors on the list, and of the four, Dutch (the owner of
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
) provided the most comprehensive proposal (though two of the other contractors gave extremely useful information as well). With most of the other bids, I had to ask a number of questions and do my own research, but with
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
, their proposal was extremely extensive and I only had to ask 2-3 clarification questions. In areas where contractors gave conflicting information in their proposal, I went back to
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
for advice, and
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
's bid met the bar. At face value,
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
's proposal was the most expensive, but, once I broke down the tasks by line item and made adjustments (eg -
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
included soffit work, whereas the other bids did not), they actually came in very competitive. What made the final decision for me was when an independent outsider gave
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
two thumbs up for extensive proposals, quality of work, and pride/ownership of the work done (they had worked on another project with
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
and had the opportunity to observe their work first hand). I also checked with two local contractors to do the same work (not on the
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
list) - they came in lower price, but much less detailed, and gave me less confidence that they could do the job as well as
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
. In regards to the actual work, Christian (the
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
person who did most of the work) was polite, clean, organized, professional, and did an outstanding job. His associate (
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
), who came on the last day, also did an outstanding job and they were very approachable with answering my questions and taking the time to be sure their work was done right. They did subcontract out the exterior soffit venting (to help with air flow circulation in the attic). I asked for bids from other roofers to be sure I was getting a good deal. The subcontractor roofer (Triple Pine Roofing from Gordonville) did an outstanding job, and cost less than the other roofer bids.
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
worked all day, and did an amazing amount of work in the hot summer heat. (I viewed it as an asset that
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
worked closely with a sub-contractor for the soffits - Dutch explained to them what needed to be done and made sure it was coordinated with the work his own people did). Bottom line - great proposal, great service, great people for
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
. Two thumbs up.. .

!I stayed home all day waiting for this contractor,s 13:00 appointment. No one showed up. When
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
the following day, or week after the fact I told him I would not waste any more time on this I would not be using his service now or in the future. He indicated that he would bill anyway. This was clearly a no show, no call situation! My credit card was billed and caused a 25.00 late charge to the account.

Homemaster were really flexible to work with us as part of the work was performed by us (demolishing) even thought it was inclueded in their initial quotation. They revised the quote in a fair way.
We had some unexpected issues that increased the initial quotation but I guess that in a 1955 house remodeling things like this happen. All together, it was a really good deal.
On the other side, they do not manage the project, coordinate with the cabinet manufacturer or other professionals so we needed to spend more time than planned.
All together, I would use their services again.

We were having moisture in the attic and it was determined that there was insufficient air circulation through the existing soffit vents and roof vents and in some areas no ventilation at all. The bathroom vents were also improperly vented throughout the 8 inch roof vents instead of having a dedicated vent for each bathroom fan. The effect of keeping this uncorrected is like spraying a garden hose against the house. The moist air ricochets off the roof vent back into the house.
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team used a calculation to determine the correct amount of net free air required and how much NFA each vent provided. Incidentally those small 3" round vents all throughout the soffits don't allow any air flow. 4"x16" soffit vents were added all around the house as were 8" roof vents. I'm going to guess about 20 of each. They also insulated all bathroom, dryer, and kitchen hood vents in the attic to prevent condensation from forming during the colder months. Very professional crew protected the interior and left no

inside or out. Very happy I did this now rather than years down the road when major moisture, mold, and structural problems arose.

Work was done in 1/2 day. Crew was professional, amiable and efficient. They removed a strip of siding, drilled a hole and injected the foam, patched the holes and replaced siding. They could tell that the oldest walls of the house (built in 1946) had very little existing insulation as those walls took the most to fill.

The whole time from the beginning I was impressed with
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
at Budget and the company. I was kept informed of how things were going and when I could expect Install to begin.
Fletcher Insulation Contractors Provider Name Locked
our installer was great he was able to explain everything to me and even went out of his way to do a couple of little extras no charge. Extremely happy with my siding and window and will recommend to anyone who is in need of new siding or windows. I can't wait to test out the new window come winter time and see how much money it will save me and how much warmer it will keep my home.
