"From start to finish we had a great experience with Bill and his team. Bill gave us great advice at our initial meeting/walk through regarding highlighting certain" features in our home and what types of paint to use. He even put us in touch with a wonderful color specialist who met with me and helped us choose the perfect color for our particular home. Bill and his team worked quickly and were done well before the estimated time frame. Beyond their great work they are very friendly. We will be using the
team in the future.

"The work was done and it looked nice. It has since had major cracks in the concrete. I notified
on November 2 and was told they would be" there in the next several days. They never contacted me until i sent an email on December 4, stating that the lack of communication and action was very disappointing and that this was not going away by being ignored. I was contacted by email and was to told the minor problems with the concrete would be taken care of. The minor problems were fixed and the fix is worse than it was originally. That was over two months ago. The major problem has never been addressed. We have a huge crack on the patio/deck and the front porch that will be quite an expensive for us to have repaired.. Spoke with
three weeks ago and told that the concrete would be repaired the following weekend. Did not show up or contact. Communication during this time would have really been appreciated. Very disappointed.

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
This is a good question.  However, the question makes the assumption that there is a paint that covers everything in 1 coat, which I don't believe is the case.  My recommendation is Benjamin Moore's Aura.  Now the fine print.  Aura will cover very well because it dries to approximately twice the thickness of other paints.  However, Aura says it will cover any color in never more than 2 coats, but there are exceptions to that as well, including some deep reds.  The main thing is the color change.  If the color you are using is within the same family of colors, you have a chance, we've also had pretty good success of grey covering over tan in 1 coat, but if you're making a major color change, don't expect any paint to cover perfectly in 1 coat.

Some other 1 coat coverage paints you could use would be Sherwin Williams Duration, and Behr Ultra Premium Plus.

Hope this helps!

Remember, you not only have to remove the popcorn texture, but also redo the ceiling in some other texture.

Price will depend on several factors:

1) how much the contractor you choose hates removing popcorn or textured ceilings - some charge $1 or so/SF extra just because they hate it. There are even some who bid total drywall replacement cheaper than removing the popcorn, so you have to first find contractors who are happy to do that work, or your prices will be out of the realistic range

2) if the popcorn predates about 1990, then it could likely have asbestos in it, which doubles or triples the price, and in many cases uncapsulating it with a spray coating and then removing the drywall entirely is actually cheaper than all the protective measures necessary if it is scraped off.

3) whether the popcorn is primarily gypsum and vermiculite (comes off REAL easy) or was the plaster of paris variety, which takes a fair amount of soaking to soften it enough to scrape off

4) what type of finish you are replacing it with - if a textured ceiling, slapcoat, knockdown finish or paneling, not real problem. If you want to go with a perfectly smooth ceiling (generally a bad idea as any variations in the drywall on a ceiling surface really shows up dramatically), then it will demand a lot of care in preparing the scraped surface, and a complete surface drywall compound skim coat to smooth out the scrapes and gouges from the removal process.

5) what underlying conditions are - if there is a lot of furniture to move around (should go to adjacent rooms) or cover and work around, high-quality rug or hardwood floor to super-protect or such, will drive cost up.

I have seen costs run from as low as $0.60/SF to $1.25/SF (for removal only). Generally, remove and recoat with a surface texture of some kind (anything but smooth) and paint will run you about $2.50-3.50/SF.

Now the bad news - if asbestos containing, can run from $5-10/SF. Many homeowners in that situation go the other legal route - have it encapsulated with an asbestos-rated sealant by an asbestos contractor, then paint it and leave it for the next homeowner to decide what to do about it. Some contractors encapsulate it and then put a 1/4" thick drywall layer over it - this usually looks like a disaster unless it has a VERY rough textured finish on it, because putting drywall sheet over a rough surface like popcorn invariably means a wavy surface commonly looks like a gently rolling ocean surface.

?
Without seeing the project I'm not sure exactly what is happening.  HOWEVER, I've never heard of someone "floating" over paint blisters - just logically that can't work.  If air or moisture are trapped (because that's what causes blisters) painting over them won't fix the initial problem.

I have a couple suggestions - My first would have been to contact the paint manufacturer - whether it's sherwin williams, benjamin moore, behr, etc. to see if they would send a rep out to give their recommendation.  We have done this before starting a project to get the best possible recommendation for work to be done and have found them to be very helpful in diagnosing what is currently going on and the best way to fix it.

If that doesn't work, I would call either the better business bureau or maybe the local paper if your contractor isn't willing to work through the problem with you.  Also, If your contractor warrantied the work I might re-read that to see what they cover if anything.

My guess is that there will have to be some sort of dispute resolution process.

Hope this helps!

We have a problem slab - there is considerable hydrostatic pressure which disrupts most adhesives - tiles come loose. After explaining our situation to the salesperson he homed in immediately on the solution - a floating floor - no adhesive. We agreed and purchased vinyl wood plank flooring. The professionalism and workmanship of the installers was outstanding. The flooring is fitted perfectly to the room - much better than the two previous installations by another provider. The painter assigned to the project was also meticulously careful and did an outstanding job. As for the B rating on price - we think the price was high but worth it for the service received.

The grasscloth had been on the wall for over 30 years, so I was concerned that it would be difficult to remove and that the process could leave the wall pitted. However, the finished wall looks great and is barely in need of spackle - and what little is needed will be done when they return to paint other rooms.

Painted whole house -- used Painters
Fairview Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
(contractor grade paint) -- even though we asked for a durable/washable that would wear well for a family with children (other painters we have said this to always chose Cashmere at
Fairview Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
-- with same description of what we wanted) -- after much recent research with other professional painters and calling various
Fairview Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
paint companies (both local and not), I have found this paint is just ok -- not used by anyone other painter I asked though (but used by builders cause of discount price and easy to touch up) === However this is preferred paint for
Fairview Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
and Sons and
Fairview Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
says its ok--- but its not what we asked for. I asked
Fairview Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
if someone comes in and asks for a mid grade paint to use in a house with children where I will need to wash walls what would you suggest? They would suggest Cashmere or Emerald. When I said what paint was used (Painters
Fairview Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
) -- they (two of the local places here) guessed the contractor even before I told them who it was. I guess they buy and paint with this a lot.
So, in addition to it not being the paint we were thinking it would be, the paint is peeling off the wall in areas. One is a spot in my sons room where we have removed an NFL Fat Head. It peeled the paint right off. This has never happened before. The paint store (all 7 of them---
Fairview Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
) said it is most likely not their paint, but the prep work of painters. I am not sure what prep work was or was not done.
Fairview Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
is scheduled to be out here to remedy or do touch up this week. I am assuming they will not re-paint my entire house with the quality paint I asked for, so I assume we will have touch ups done. Not sure-- appointment is pending for this week.
In addition to those two items, there are many drips on wood trim that we did not notice after job was completed. We did walk around and I did not do a diligent enough job of looking at every
Fairview Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
or front of trim, so once we were in home and settled and less distracted with the whole move process, I noticed so much of our wood trim has paint drippings and splashes. I am not ultra picky and I can live with it, but not what I would expect from professionals or for a job we paid this much for. Not sure If I will be able to add to this review after that is done, but as of today--- this is where it stands and that is my review of today. I will make mention that when I called --
Fairview Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
did send out someone to look at work, I waited more than 3 weeks and finally called cause I had not heard from them. (as of this week March 2, 2014) He said it was reported that paint was coming off from tape on wall , I explained that tape was not on all the spots its peeling, so I have hope that this will be resolved and remedied, its just not been easy or like any other paint job we have had done.
luckily, our deck was not done in that line of paint as it was deck paint-- I am so glad that paint line was not option for that!! That seems to be holding ok a few spots are fading, but I will attribute that to this deck being fairly old and not in the best shape to begin with....
So - final word is job will be done, you may have to monitor a lot (I left out part where colors were switched and cans not labeled correctly) -- my boys ended up in a different bedroom than we wanted because that's the color they put in there) we didn't even say anything about that-- cause it was pretty far in to it when we noticed..... did same thing to laundry room, but I caught that in time and they fixed it... they were very eager to fix that and make right.................. as I do think they care and --- but just little things like that need to be monitored...... (if allowed to update after fixes I will do that, but as I said earlier, as of today-- this is my review) ---------------------------------

and his team spent 2+ weeks at our new home refinishing damaged walls and ceilings, scraping popcorn ceilings and painting all walls and some trim and ceilings. The crew was courteous to my family and respectful of our home as we lived through the construction and painting taking place. They did a good job with their work. The price was fair for the amount of work required on the walls and we would use them again if we needed to repaint. Their work hours were interesting from my perspective - 10am to 6pm typically with 1-2 hours for lunch, but they worked diligently while they were here. We picked a few colors for walls that were

than they were used to seeing and
Fairview Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
was respectful in ensuring that we wanted them to continue with the color choices - we actually made a few changes because of this and we appreciated his attention to the design aspect as much as the quality of the paint job.

The only downside to this contractor was they're very busy and getting them to schedule an appointment was frustrating and took many more weeks then originally planned. However, they scraped my house down to the bare wood! My neighbors came over to tell me what a great job they were doing.
