"I ended up not needing to use their services. I was disappointed that I paid $50 for an inspection, when he said he would have done that for free. He did say" I could use the $50 voucher if I ever needed any waterproofing services in the future.

Mold in a basement is a common problem. My company helps people with this every day. Some of the answers you received were helpful but not all the information is correct. First, you need to eliminate the two main ingrediants that mold needs to survive. The first one is water intrusion. This is a must. I am assuming you have no water intrusion as you make no mention. The second componant that needs to be eliminated is moisture. Moisture is also humidity. Basements need to be kept airtight in the summer months. Some folks have posted that you need air flow in your basement. Nothing could be furthur from the truth. When you open any windows for example, not one micron of air goes out of the basement, Warm humid air is sucked into the basement. Houses suck air into the basement and it meets the cool surfaces and skyrockets humidity. The windows must be kept closed and a dehumidification device installed to ensure humidity stays below 60% humidity. The dehumidifier should be energy star rated and purchasing a seperate humidity guage is a must to monitor the unit's progress. We like to keep our customer's basements at 50% humidity. This eliminates the smell that is active mold spore growth. Once the water and humidity is brought under control. Remove the organic materials that have mold on them. Walls, sheetrock and studs that have been affected. Follow the advice of previous posts as you must ensure that you do not affect the rest of the home. Once removed, install new walls using as much inorganic material as possible. We also install vapor barrier over the walls and seal the floors to stopwater vapor transmission into the basement. Poly plastic is not a acceptable vapor barrier. It is not "zero-perm" and will still allow moisture transmission. It will also crack and break into pieces over the years. A PVC liner rated "zero-perm" is the correct product in this application. Depending how large the basement is and if it is sectioned off will determine the dehumidifier strength. We use the Santa Fe line of dehidifiers as they are super energy efficiant and work like a dehumidifier on steriods. I hope this helps and I wish you the best in Basement Health!

Where is the home located, what is the exterior wall construction and type, how is the space heated?

It could be a whole host of different scenarios that would generate that result.  It is nearly impossible to tell but I would say that most basement moisture problems are a result of bulk moisture intrusion or condensation issues.

Given the deep and hard winter this year, it could be a condensation issue that hadn't previously been shown.

The injected the cracks and took their time to ensure that they didn't miss any cracks and even moved the washer and dryer to inject a crack behind. After the job they explained what I can expect. We had an issue with our floor patch and they responded in a couple of days and re-installed the epoxy on the floor.

I'd originally had an estimate done in 2011, and owner
Candler Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
suggested I wait a few months to determine if I really had a problem or not, as it had been an usually wet spring. I truly appreciate it when a service provider doesn't try to sell me something I might not actually need. After a few years, however, the water seepage worsened, so I called him back for an updated estimate and he said the job would be the same price as quoted four years ago. Great! On the day of the job, a three-man crew arrived precisely on time, worked professionally and efficiently, and finished up in 4-5 hours. When they needed to dig a few extra feel of trench to hook up the new drain tiles to my existing line, one of the men (
Candler Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
) clearly explained what they were doing and why. (There was no additional charge.) I'd heard jobs like this could be dusty, but the workers didn't make any mess at all -- I'd say my basement floor is even cleaner now than it was before they arrived. Granted, it will take some heavy rains to know if the drain tiles are working properly, but up to this point, I am extremely pleased with
Candler Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
and would very highly recommend them.

I am extremely happy with the honest assessment
Candler Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
gave me regarding dampness on my basement wall and his help finding the right kind of contractor to fix the problem.
Specifically,
Candler Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
saved me thousands of dollars because the company I had previously had come out told me the only way to fix water dampness on my basement wall was to completely removed and replace the wall. If that company had been timely in giving me a quote, I probably would have had perfectly good cinder blocks replaced. But
Candler Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was significantly more responsive.
What I learned from
Candler Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
is the problem isn't primarily a basement wall problem; it's a gutter and drainage problem. I am writing this review because I'm not hiring
Candler Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
(and
Candler Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
) because he doesn't do gutters - and he didn't recommend a major excavation where it wasn't needed. Instead, he helped me find a contractor that does the kind of work I need done.
I am thankful for that kind of service.

Basement filled with water at the first rain after $6300 waterproofing!
Washer, dryer, and utility sink were disconnected and never reconnected although proprietor said he would as soon as the cement dried (that was 2 weeks ago). Large hole left in wall where dryer vent should have been re-attached.
Considerable debris left behind which I hauled out personally.
Large hole burned in back yard lawn by workers dumping some sort of caustic liquid. Two feet to the left there was dirt where they could have dumped the liquid and not killed any grass at all.
Proprietor said I'd get a copy of the city inspector's approval. Never got it. Proprietor said a new sump pump was installed but won't give me the owner's manual or show me a receipt.
Proprietor never checked for or asked about an existing sump pump. There was an exterior sump pump that had stopped working due to an electrical short. It's possible that water backed up into my basement solely because that pump was off and the whole $6300 job was necessary in the first place. I'll never know but always wonder....
Proprietor used long extension cord to connect interior sump pump to outlet on far wall of basement. Proprietor left the cord lying on the floor, across the width of the basement. I attached it myself to rafters via cup hooks. Trip and fall hazard! And the cord was lying on the wet (still wet) floor, possible in standing water in case of future flooding which indeed occurred at the next rain.

The tough winter took a toll on our already aging front steps. I called for an estimate to repair loose bricks, but
Candler Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
told me that he thought we really needed to replace the whole front steps. He came highly recommended so I trusted his assessment. I let them know when we would be on vacation and they completed the work while we were out of town, which was very convenient. The steps look great and we are very pleased with the work. I can't compare prices because we did not get other estimates.

When half of the drain trench had been dug, the basement floor in that area dropped about an inch. They immediately ceased work and called in a structural engineer. He determined that the foundation was secure and that the drop in the floor was a result of erosion. He recommended that holes be drilled throughout the basement floor and filler material be added to support the floor and prevent further dropping. A week later
Candler Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
came back and drilled 2" holes approximately five feet apart, or closer where needed for larger voids, and filled with Bentonite clay for an additional $7900. They finished the waterproofing system in two days.

Injected two cracks in basement wall. One crack had to use staples.
We had a different company fix another crack a few years back. That work took two repairs to stop the leak.
Candler Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
's work
was much neater and worked the first try. They explained upfront the limitation regarding the corner crack repair. No further leaks
since repair. Would definitely use this company again.

The product functions exactly as intended, water no longer comes in my basement when it rains, and their work is guaranteed for life. So in the end, I'd still recommend them to others, but be sure to get every single thing in writing on the quote/contract before work begins. There was a significant gap in between what the person issuing the quotation promised and what the person showing up to do the work tried to deliver.
It took a couple emails and phone calls to the company's owner to get what I was quoted to be actually accomplished. They either need to have the same person that quoted the work explain the scope to the on-site workers, or revise their contract forms to accommodate several other details for waterproofing jobs. I had to do a lot of babysitting to ensure I was receiving what I was paying for.
Additionally, one of the workers tried to tie my sump pump discharge line at the immediate base of my downspout. Not only was that explicitly not what was discussed during my quotation, it is simply an industry-recognized bad practice, and yet the worker tried to convince me it wouldn't matter. Shortcuts like these make me nervous about what other corners they cut over the course of my french drain installation, but again, their warranty eased my concerns enough to get past it.
Similarly, a staple gun was used to fasten protective plastic sheeting to the drywall in the rooms where the work was done. Rather than remove these staples individually upon completion, they just ripped the entire plastic sheeting from a single vantage point, putting
Candler Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
stress on the staples, and ripping unnecessary chunks out of my drywall that I now have to patch.
Finally, their initial attempt at "burying" a downspout line was to place a pipe in the dirt, and sprinkle dirt on top of it, to where the majority of the white pipe was still clearly visible. To their credit, someone returned to bury t he pipe properly, and they changed the tie-in point of the discharge line to a safe distance, but these are lazy shortcuts I wouldn't expect from a professional company in the first place, and for that reason I give them a B in quality and professionalism.
Overall, they still get an A because they continued to work with me until I was happy, and the owner clearly cares about his company and the quality of service it provides, but there are some pretty easy areas of improvement when it comes to communicating and managing expectations with customers.
