Boone HVAC Contractors Reviews

"Woke up Sunday morning with no heat. After going into my crawlspace & looking at the furnace & not being able to determine where the problem was, I went online & requested help from B & R Service. I received a callback from a technician who after I asked the cost of service on the weekend, told me if they came out that day (Sunday) the service call would be $167.00, but if I could wait until the next day (Monday) the service call would be $99.00. Since I have gas logs, I opted to wait until Monday. I was called by their office manager Monday & was told a technician was nearby my area & would come to my house to look at the furnace. I met the technician at my house where he immediately diagnosed the issue as a burned out igniter. He showed me the part he was replacing & was at my home a total of 30 minutes from the time he got there to the time he left. I remember thinking that I was glad that the fix wasn't more involved. As I was backing out of my garage, the technician came to my car window & presented me with an invoice for $331.00!! Needless to say, I was shocked at the high cost. When I said as much to the service tech, he even agreed it was more than he thought it would be too, but he was going by their "program" to a**** the cost. When I got back to my office I e-mailed their home office to ask them to re-check the cost of the part because it seemed exceedingly high. In the meantime, I went on the internet & found the exact igniter part from several sources & was interested to learn I could purchase one for $18.00 - $24.00, Once I received a confirmation e-mail from B & R that their pricing was correct & my bill was $331.00, I immediately called them to ask why the bill was so high. After not getting a satisfactory answer from the office mgr. & her getting frustrated with me not just accepting that the fee was due in large part to the "expertise" of their service people (they are charging the kind of rates I expect from a specialist physician), I was told the service manager would call me about it. I received a call from him this morning. I explained that I understood that I would be charged a $99.00 diagnostic/trip fee + the part ($20.00) + the time the tech spent here (1/2 hour). Even if they charge $75.00 or $80.00 an hour.....I would've only been charged about half of the $331.00 I was charged. He stated that they use "flat fee" pricing & that some calls they go on, they make money & others they don't & that I should've been told how much it was going to cost ( I wasn't). It still baffles me why I would have to pay a higher price than my particular service/part required. Nevertheless, he was unfortunately unwilling to negotiate a lower price, so this is part of my recourse. Being from a small area, word of mouth can be devastating as well.

was quick to sell us an expensive heat pump system that was supposed "to take care of us for years to come." The system has a two-year warranty. It works well most of the time, but we've had two problems: 1) They rushed the installation, some problem with not being able to find a certified electrician or something and the system's operation (or rather the operation of the electronic thermostat) was not well-explained, perhaps because the installer preferred to talk about how much he disliked President Obama--heat pump was installed the day after the 2012 election-- and the system was left on "emergency heat" for about a month, driving up our bill; eventually I figured that one out on my own, notified

, but didn't seek any reimbursement or anything, just ate the added expense and chalked it up as a lesson to pay attention and read the instructions instead of relying on the installer; 2) about a year later, we had an unpleasant musty odor when the heat pump went to the defrost cycle, something apparently known as "dirty sock syndrome."

A few problems with the service for the second problem. First service call didn't fix it; tech tried to tell me the problem resulted from clogged filters, even though they had been changed just two weeks before. Had to call back when, of course, the smell returned. Maybe I caught them on a bad day or something. A couple of unpleasant phone calls with their customer service people and

when I asked if they could possibly get out quicker since I'd already had to take one day off to accommodate a tech who arrived late and didn't do the job. Did eventually send out a knowledgeable friendly tech who immediately recognized the problem. Ordered and installed a new coil shortly after Thanksgiving. So far it's working fine. Got a nice email from

apologizing for the situation, saying that they valued my business AND they didn't charge for labor which, as I understand it, they could have done under the terms of the warranty. I appreciate and respect that.

is like a lot of businesses in this area. They are locally-owned and pretty much have a captive

because there is so little competition. I'm not sure that they understand (and, in fairness, this may not be their fault) the sort of professionalism and business-like interaction one would find in a larger more competitive

. At any rate, they made the situation right; so far my unit is keeping the house warm--as I write this, it's well below zero--so I've revised my review and grade. Fair is fair.
"The folks were knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. They explained exactly what was and was not included in their quote (for example, we had to pay an electrician separately for hooking up the new device). For necessary services which they did not perform, they recommended providers with which they had worked in the past and whose workmanship they could vouch for. We received quotes from multiple providers and theirs seemed to be the best overall value. The work was done promptly and correctly -- no need to call back to fix problems.
"The issue here is that there is that there is only person at
Boone HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
who can service the Buderus and he doesn't live in the area. Over the last two Christmas holidays we have been stuck for days in a cold house without heat. We have been unable to do anything but make an appointment for a visit after the holidays. This season we have now been without heat for 10 days. (The temperature last night was in the low 20s; tonight we expect the low teens.) The heat went out on December 23rd. Several days after Christmas we had a service call and learned that a part had to be ordered. (Again, it would have been nice to know that neither parts nor service for the Buderus were available locally.) The part didn't come Friday. It is now due today, but It is January 2nd, another holiday, and no one at

can be reached. I must say that the folks at
Boone HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
have been prompt, reliable and good to us in the past when we had an old failing oil furnace; but since upgrading to the Buderus we are more than a little disappointed.
"On Sept 3rd,2010 our air conditioner quit working so we called ARS to service it.We bought this unit from ARS 6yrs ago and have been a customer since then.the serviceman came sept.4th to fix it.He replaced the capacitor and had the job completed in 30 min. we recieved the bill from him and paid in full.they charged $231.38 for the capacitor alone.I was told the next day by a friend that a capacitor only cost about $15.00 why was I charged so much ? I called

Supply ,I gave them all the information on the capacitor and they told me the cost was $9.00 retail.I ask them about the cost of other capacitors and the most epensive one they had was only $16.49. I talked to

at ARS and ask why such a high

up ? he stated that they had overhead coststo pay,I told him I was unemployedand that was a lot of money for a $9.00 capacitor. He told me what he could do is give me my money back and come and take their capacitor out and I could install the other myself.(SO much for fairness in price !!!!!! )
"I contacted
Boone HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
to inspect my HVAC units and humidifier, and the scheduler got a technician out the same week on a day that was convenient for me. The technician arrived promptly and was very professional. He took time to explain the HVAC systems and showed us how to change the filters. He thoroughly explained the maintenance contract, system upgrades and humidity control unit, but did not pressure me to buy anything additional. I was very pleased by this company's response time, professional demeanor and the services they offer. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing HVAC service.
"Complete job was accomplished in two days by three very professional techs. System worked perfectly. Installation required mods to some of the duct work and condensate drain.
About two years later in the summer we noticed what sounded like an unbalanced circ fan in the air handler. We shut the unit off and called the

heat and A/C people the
next am...they had a tech out by noon. He removed the fan unit and took it outside to disassemble .....what we found to our surprise was a fairly large black snake wrapped around the fan shaft...STILL ALIVE. We urged he snake into the woods. They installed a new blower unit two days later at NO CHARGE. Great service.
