"They were great to work with. Work was performed as quoted. All interactions with this company were positive and pleasant. The workers came early, worked hard," stayed with it and completed the job in a day and a half. They did a great job of cleaning up debris before leaving. We are extremely pleased that we chose
to do this project and are pleased to recommend them to anyone who asks us who did our work.

"Before getting the new roof the old shingles were worn and there was visible rotten wood around the roof eves. My biggest fear was that there would be additional,"
damage under the two layers of shingles, and that the job would involve costly repairs and replacements. I had five roofers come out and give estimates. The quotes ranged from $ 6,700 to $17,000. We settled on
. He had the lowest quote and was upfront about what was needed on my roof. He did not try to sell me insulation, new gutters, or things I did not need. He was also the only roofer to actually climb up on the roof and inspect it closely before giving a quote. He said there was no way to be certain of the condition of the roof until the shingles were removed but it probably was in good shape. Over the years there had been water damage along the eves so he recommended ice guard there, and a drip
along the eves and roof rake. He also added a ridge vent to vent the attic. After removing the old shingles
took the time to take pictures of the roof to show me the condition of the wood decking. There were a few bad areas, but it was mostly in good condition. The completion of the job came in on time and at cost estimate. The roof looks great. I am happy with the fair price and the high quality of work. I would highly recommend
and his crew.

Wow, i aum surprised you didn't get 10 answers already with roofers say X was the best or N was the best or A was the best. In reality you are focusing on the WRONG THING!

5 estimates? Why 5? Why would you do that to yourself? Normally if you are dealing with reputable companies you don't need more than 2 estimates. I advocate to people to always get at least two estimates and if the roofers are saying something very different or if the roofers are way way way off in price, get an equalizer, get a 3rd.  Obviously if you don't trust a roofer disqualify that roofer immediately.  I beliee you have now fallen into "Analysis Paralysis" which is what happens when you have too many opions.

But back to the topic, I said you are focusing on the wrong thing. Why did I say that? Because you can take the best shingle in the world and if installed wrong is compeltely garbage. i can take the worst shingle, known to fail, and if installed properly will last some ammount of time. So you should focus on the roofer, not the product. The roofer is more important and a good quality roofer will only want to install good quality product.

The roof is a system comprised of many components, not just the shingles. You have the water proofing underlayment such as ice shield, the water resistant underlayments such as felt. You have the shingles, the ventilation and the flashing details. All of these things add up to equal one roof. Neglect one and your roof is doomed to fail.

But the roof is more than just product it is detail, know how and heart. Heart? yes heart. It takes the utmost CARING the utmost DESIRE to want to install a good roof. It's hard work and easy to fall into the train of thought as to do what's easier, instead of what's faster.  Faster and easier seldom ever equals better. At the end of the day you ened a roofer that cares about your roof.

So what product is best? That's hard to say. Each manufacturer has multiple plants and it seems each plant puts out varying levels of quality. I will tell you in my area Atlast is known as a cheap commodity shingle. I have Tamko Heritage on my house but I stopped using it because I was having seal failue issues and at the time they offered no contractor certification program, but I hear they started up one. Ownes corning is a decent product backed by a great company. I don't install very many OC's though. I primarily install CertainTeed Landmark shingles and my feeling is that they are the best on the market in my area. I'm sure others will disagree with me.

But don't miss the point, the roofer is more important than the shingle.

I appreciate the fact that with homeowners like you who want to beat the insurance co out of deductibles, so then my rates and every other homeowners rates can also go up just to save you.....Thanks for NOTHING..[8o|]

Any roofer worth using should be able to do the roof with NO MONEY DOWN.

The only scenario I would ask for a deposit is on a crazy odd ball shingle that had to be special ordered.

?
The question was, Can it be done? The answer is yes. The real question is "Should" it be done? The answer is, no, not unless it is an emergency.   But also let's clarify winter, because we are having a pretty mild winter, so there's kinda not a problem this year so far. I'll refrence "below freezing" from this point forward.

As a certified and licensed roofing contractor, my reputation is on the line. I debate this topic quite often with other roofing contractors who seem to care more about profit than a job well done.  Well, I can tell you from past experience having been a professional roofer for 14 years as of the time of this posting, that the chance for failure increases exponentionally when installed below freezing.  It's better just not to risk it.

Personally I will not, unless absolutely necessary and the customer signs a disclaimer of limited liability, install a roof below freezing and really really want to install the roof at 40 or above. The shingles need to seal, and will not seal unless they warm to about 70 degrees F ambient temprature. This does not mean it needs to be 70 outside, because the shingles will warm from the sun.

So what can be done to install the roof below freezing? Well first, the roof should not be gun nailed below freezing. This is because the shingles become brittle and it's easier to "blow through" with your nails. It's also harder to regulate air pressure when it is cold, I speculate because of barometric pressures, but I am just guessing.  Therefore the roof should be hand nailed. This takes more time. Furthermore since the seal strips will not seal, they must be manually sealed with proper compatible adhesives. This will also take more time, and more material. I once spoke with a roofer in Alaska who builds tents around the houses he is working on and covers them with tarps and heats with propane heaters.  Now that takes real time!    The question is, are you prepared to pay for this extra time? Can you wait a few more weeks?

Entered into a contract with CTP in March, 2015 for removal of 20
windows and install 17 replacement windows and also to convert our
screen porch into a sunroom. I paid the deposit at time of contract.
They returned in May, 2015 where I paid the second installment. They
installed two windows and the rest were the wrong color. The returned
them to supplier to get corrected. They scheduled numerous times to
return to install but never showed. The company office has closed and
the owner will not take our call or letters. We have paid them in total
$17,100 and they will not release the products we have paid for. Next
step will be via the legal system. We are not the only ones this is
happening to.

was excellent from start to finish. He came out for an estimate shortly after I called. He was upfront with what he thought we needed, listened to my concerns about the project, and explained in detail what he would do. His price was very fair, and the work was very good quality. The day of the project he walked me through again what he would do, and he and his crew answered a few questions I had for them while they were performing the work. They didn't finish on the first day, and came back in the morning the next day (a Saturday, which I appreciated) to finish. Afterwards, they cleaned up and left our porch cleaner than when they arrived. I was very happy with

initially came out to give us a quote on repair of one corner of a porch roof and repair an area of older shingles that were starting to come loose/off. After consideration of that quote, we asked for a quote to redo the entire roof realizing that patching one bad spot would still lead to more "band-aids" over time in other areas. Was able to start work in a little over a week. Quickly removed old shingle roof and replaced damaged wood with plywood before applying backerboard with rubber overlay that was then heated to seal it. He installed a more thorough drip

and his crew were professional and courteous. He took pictures before and after for his files. Provides pictures and written warranty for my records. They did an excellent job of working around my curious 8 year old, cleaning up after themselves each day and left the area in better condition than they found it. The work was done over a couple days and the only issue I had was that they did always communicate a clear time for returning the following days. However, they didn't need me here to do the work, so wasn't a huge deal.

did a fantastic job! When I found a wet spot on the ceiling in a second floor bedroom, I located

came over right away. He diagnosed the problem inside and then went up on the roof in pouring down rain to find the little holes that were letting in water. He made on-the-spot repairs, but found some other trouble spots that needed maintenance to avoid future problems (ridge vent had wind damage, old and unused satellite dish hardware was in disrepair).

came back on a sunny day to fix these other items. That morning I noticed another leak this time in the front of the house. When

I am extremely pleased with the work that was done and the price. The gutters look great and the roof repair is perfect. The only thing that could have been better was the communication.
Somers Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
came and looked at the house and mailed me a contract. I signed it and sent it back. The contract said the work would be done within a week of signing. No specific date was given. I assumed they would call me. A few days later, I was sunbathing in my backyard and a couple of workers came into the yard. I was rather embarrassed to be caught in my bathing suit. I scurried inside and the guys did the work.
So, I would still recommend this company, but I would suggest they give homeowners a heads-up phone call before they show up!

The contractor arrived on time and went right to work. It was one of the hottest days of the year and they had called to ask whether the team could start very early as to avoid too much sun. They completed the work and carted away all the materials.
