"Initially it well. Bill came over and provided quotes for both painting trim around the windows and prep and stain deck. We went with just the trim. I explained to him that I needed" the work done on Mon/Wed/Fri because I have dogs and Tues thru Thurs they are home and would go nuts with the painting going on. Bill had said it wouldn't be an issue and he could get it done after Labor day (note his visit was on August 8th). I wasn't in rush and was flexible. I made the deposit and waited to hear back from him. By mid September I hadn't heard anything and emailed him for an update. Bill replied that he would find some firm dates and it would be done prior to the end of the month. He responded back 5 days later to tell me that the work would be done on a Saturday the 27th which didn't work because my dogs would be home. I reminded him of this during his initial visit that it had to be done during time. He then moved it to the 26th. On the 26th two workers came out. They began scraping and didn't power wash per the quote provided by the company. They spray primed the wood and painted two
. When it got done I noticed that some of the areas of paint didn't match. Further the clean-up left paint flecks all over my red stained deck to which I had to clean up. I emailed Bill and asked him to come out the following Monday which he did. I asked him to review the work by his crew and pointed out the various areas where the paint didn't match and an area that was already chipping. I asked him why certain spots were patched/sanded and primed whereas others weren't. I asked him why it wasn't power washed per my quote to which he said it would have taken 2 days and he instead sent two people to get it done in one day. Bill took pics of the areas I pointed out. I told him I was flexible on getting this done and please come back to me when a date so I could make sure my dogs weren't around. The following Saturday my Wife and Istood on our deck when we noticed that areas of the trim that looked repainted didn't match and actually looked worse then before. I received a text msg from Bill on Monday informing me that his guy had come over and patched things up. I responded that the patching looked worse then before and I would send photos to him stating the same. After sending the photos over I got more upset because I felt this unscheduled work was underhanded. I told him that I had researched his company on Angie's List and picked him because of his company's good reviews. The follow up work looked like a rush job in between other jobs. Specifically it looked like 3M patch/primer with a quick coat of paint. In the end I explained I wouldn't be using his 2 year warranty and would find someone else moving forward.

"No work was ever performed because it took a ridiculously long time to get an estimate, which turned out to be outrageous. We contacted SureWorks for the first time in mid-June." It took several weeks and an email to get a response from them, which basically amounted to an apology for running behind and the explanation that they were short staffed in the office. We were told we would hear from them soon to get an estimate scheduled. That finally happened a couple weeks later. Due to some confusion, we weren't home when someone came by to look at the house, but we were never contacted for follow up questions. A few more weeks went by and we received a voicemail from a completely different company saying that they had been asked by Sure Works to come out and look at our house and provide input for the estimate. Apparently, the second company had already done this without our knowledge. (It would have been nice to be informed of this in advance). The second company promised they would be communicating with SureWorks and we'd hear from them within a few days. A couple of weeks passed again before an email arrived in mid-late September with a very basic estimate of over $8,000 to paint the roof on our approximately 1200 square foot house. There was no explanation or breakdown of the expenses involved to arrive at this number, nor any description of the actual work that would be included. This, on top of the poor communication and excessive delays resulted in us not pursuing any work with this company.

"I first noticed North Coast as they were the highest rated company on Angie’s list when looking to get my
fence cleaned and stained. Next, when I contacted" the owner he was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with given both our time schedules. I had North Coast clean and stain a large
fence and they did better than I ever imagined they could do. The crew was very thorough and you could tell they took pride in their work. This job would have taken me a solid week to do by myself 8 hours a day but North Coast accomplished it in about 3 days and did a much better and professional job than what I could have done. The fence looks gorgeous and is ready to handle the elements only north east Ohio offers. Furthermore, I was extremely pleased to see they were using high quality products and they put the product on thick. The cleaner they used on the fence is top of the line and the stain they used did a fabulous job. I have already coordinated using North Coast come in the spring to clean and paint my deck and also potentially use them for my driveway/sidewalk pressure wash cleaning and sealing. Simply put I am 100% pleased by North Coast’s work and abilities and they were very good to work with. Great job! I will recommend to others.

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.

Without seeing the project I'm not sure exactly what is happening.  HOWEVER, I've never heard of someone "floating" over paint blisters - just logically that can't work.  If air or moisture are trapped (because that's what causes blisters) painting over them won't fix the initial problem.

I have a couple suggestions - My first would have been to contact the paint manufacturer - whether it's sherwin williams, benjamin moore, behr, etc. to see if they would send a rep out to give their recommendation.  We have done this before starting a project to get the best possible recommendation for work to be done and have found them to be very helpful in diagnosing what is currently going on and the best way to fix it.

If that doesn't work, I would call either the better business bureau or maybe the local paper if your contractor isn't willing to work through the problem with you.  Also, If your contractor warrantied the work I might re-read that to see what they cover if anything.

My guess is that there will have to be some sort of dispute resolution process.

Hope this helps!

Yes - absolutely!  Refinishing is THE VERY BEST way to go to avoid tearing out a perfectly good bathtub that just LOOKS bad after years of use.  Go to the link below for some before and after refinishing pictures of acrylic tubs.

I hired Dick to reinstall a garbage disposal, drain and faucet and reconnect my pipes. He had an Angie's list big deal ($40 per hour).
I told him specifically what I needed to have done and asked if there was anything I needed to have ready for him. He showed up slightly early (which was a plus) and looked my sink over. He then proceeded to read the directions for installing the new faucet
and took almost an hour to install the faucet. He then took another two hours to reconnect the garbage disposal and drain. Two and one half hours into the project, he still did not have one pipe under the sink installed. I finally asked him to stop since I really had not budgeted for that much time and he even said he had no idea how to reattached the PVC pipes. I went to Lowes and talked to the plumbing department who sold me a few new parts and explained to me how to connect everything. I had the remainder of the project done in one hour. He was a very nice man but I think he overestimated his plumbing prowess. He was nice enough to not charge me for the entire 2 1/2 hours.

Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
and his crew painted the exterior of our home 7 yrs ago after we were given his name by a friend. After recently doing some interior remodeling, we contacted
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
to paint the entire interior of our home.
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
is very easy to work with and eager to please. He came by to give us an estimate just hours after we contacted him and he made suggestions for colors and baseboards and replacing base boards. After selecting the colors, we scheduled a date to have one bathroom painted while other remodeling continued in other rooms by another contractor. When the remodeling was completed, we called him and he had a crew here on the date we requested to finish the rest of the house. They arrived every day at 8:30, as scheduled, and worked straight through to 4:30. They finished the entire home in 3 days!! The 3 men who worked here were all very friendly and personable in addition to being very experienced.
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
has a great eye for detail and noticed things to be done that we wouldn't have thought of. For example, we have a wide ledge down the side of a bonus room under windows. Without even telling us until finished, he had his crew paint it in semi-gloss rather than flat finish after he noticed we set plants on it. The semi-gloss making it easier to wipe up water spills, etc. He had them move the
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
in the kitchen and paint the
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
wall behind it, which had never been painted even when the house was built!
The men cleaned up after themselves every evening and when the job was completed. They carefully moved furniture and covered it, covered areas not to be painted, new tile floors, light fixtures, etc. They even covered the carpet which we are having replaced immediately.
We highly recommend
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
and his company for any of your painting needs.
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
is easy to contact and responsive and does what he says he will do when he says he will do it. He does some of the work himself, but if he is not working in your house himself, he drops in several times during the work day and at the beginning and end. He is very hands on with his crew.

Having just purchased a worn out 2 flat, I had several must do repairs before focusing on my tiny garden apt renovation. I think
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
thought I was crazy to fix up this area but he and his team worked with me and now I (almost) have a beautiful, comfortable home and he agrees it turned out surprisingly nice. Friends and neighbors have enjoyed watching the progress and have been very impressed with the

During these projects, i hosted a wedding shower and then a wedding! Ugh it was a busy time and

I highly recommend

These guys are great. They arrived on time. Gave a reasonable estimate, which included replacing only what was needed. Exactly what I would expect. Performed job as estimated, with price as estimated. Cleaned up after themselves. Pleasant and professional.

Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
is an exceptionally good painter, and I am recommending him to everyone I know who needs any painting done. We recently hired him to power wash, caulk, prep and repaint the exterior of our house. He also cleaned and re-stained our deck. He had painted the house 9 years ago and did such a fantastic job, that we called him first this time and didn’t even talk to anybody else about doing the job. And we were just as pleased this time as we were the first time. The house looks fabulous! There are a lot of good painters out there, and many other names on Angie’s List. So why did we hire
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
a second time? What sets him apart from the others? 1. Skill level/Quality of workmanship.
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
truly is an expert who exhibits the highest quality in his work. We have never hired another contractor who is as meticulous and conscientious. He also uses a very high quality
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
paint; it actually “glows” when he is finished. And the last time he painted it, the paint held up extremely well; in fact, we weren’t sure the house even really needed re-painting after 9 years, but we didn’t want to wait too long just in case. 2. Professional and Dependable. When
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
says he will be there to work, he shows up. You can count on him working hard and putting in long hours until the job is done. And because he cares so much, he will even return years later to do any touch-up work needed, at no additional cost. 3. Does all the work himself. When you hire most contractors, the owner shows up to scope the job, provide an estimate and close the sale. Then when it comes time for the actual work to begin, a different crew shows up and the owner is usually not around much. This is not the case with
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
; he does all the work himself. He is his own boss, so he does not have to meet the demands of a boss’s time schedule. He has the luxury of taking enough time to ensure that the job is done well. And he gets the job done in a very reasonable time frame. 4. Leaves no mess.
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
is very, very neat and there is absolutely nothing for the homeowner to clean up after he is gone. It seems to be getting harder and harder these days to find contractors who are truly committed to doing a great job.
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
is the exception, and because of that, we will always call him first when we need any painting done. So I’m picky, but why should I settle for anything less than the best? The truth is, if I had several estimates from other painters, I would hire
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
even if he was more expensive than the others. Why? Because he is worth it.

We had
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
paint practically every wall of the house we were moving to. This also included painting the kitchen cupboards, which is a time consuming job.
Livingston Exterior Painters Provider Name Locked
and his colleagues were the best. They were punctual, thorough, and helped make good decisions. They were particularly helpful in that we had illness in the extended family which required my being away. They kept the job moving forward and finished even before we had hoped. The results were beautiful. I will use them in the future, and certainly recommend them to my friends.
