"the price was extremely high. We opted to only do the three that were in disrepair and see how it went to decide if we would use
for future" windows. The windows are fine, but unremarkable. They are supposed to triple pane insulated windows but you can still feel cold air around these windows. The service provided at the time is not why I am giving them a F rating. The constant harassment for YEARS to get the rest of my windows replaced has guaranteed that I will NEVER spend another dime with this company. They are now dba Preservation Home Specialists. They call my house daily and sometimes MULTIPLE times per day, and if I happen to answer they are very pushy and insisting I am entered in a drawing to
$15,000 worth of home improvements. when I say I am not interested they go on and tell me how it isn't a sales pitch. I have hung up on them, I have asked them to remove me from their calling lists, and I have told them that I will never buy from them again. but they continue to call daily. This is still for a sales pitch, as they need to come demonstrate their products to you "in case" you
. I will tell everyone I know to stay away from
Windows and Preservation Home Specialists!!!!

"I called them and asked for quote to raise the floor level for new door thresholds. I was quoted for $54 each door plus the trip charge. When they came out to do" it a week later, I was not there and I got a charge for $111 per door. When I called them, I was told that $54 was for installing the threshold, they have to cut the doors to fit, there is $57/each additional charge. I said that I told you to quote me per door, not per threshold. They said do not assume anything from us. Then I found from their website that they were running promotions at the time and the trip charge should have been waived. They did not say anything at the time. Any honest contractors I have used would have mentioned it. So I paid them with whatever they have asked. At the time, the door was very tight and I did not say anything since I like tight doors even though I did not live there and were going to sell it. The house was vacant for about 6 months and I have a buyer for the house. The buyer asked whether I can make the door loose so his son can open it. Then I called them again and told them the doors were tight from the beginning and I like tight doors, but my buyer would like it not too tight thinking they would adjust it for free since nobody has lived there. She did not mention any charge. Then the worker showed up and I was there, I told him to lock the door after he is done. He said "let me give you the invoice if you are leaving". Then I found there will be another $220 charge. So I told him I did not need the service. So be careful, ask them to write everything down before they start the work. In my opinion, they purposely to make it vague so you will use them and hit you with higher charge. I have used many contractors and this is one of the worst one.

Angie's Answers

?

Hello - I hope my answer will help point you in the right direction.

The reason you're having a hard time getting clear information is because there are hundreds of companies saying their window is the best. There are probably millions of different features you can choose to have for your windows and in price ranges from $169-$1200 (per double-hung window).

I've been in the business for 15 years and have seen many different window products from many different dealers and manufacturers. This all comes down to: "what's important for you and your home?" If you want a strong warranty from a company who has a full-time service department to give you piece of mind and service your windows should needs be, or are you looking at only those companies who offer true wood interior windows that you can paint or stain to match the home decor? Whatever is your hot-button, then that's where you want to start.

I would recommend you first choose how you want your new windows to look. Wood-interior with vinyl clad is only offered by certain companies, while there is a vinyl woodgrain finish to give you similar results without the maintenance. If you're only looking for a white interior and don't want the maintenance, a fiberglass or vinyl window would be the best choice from what is offered in the market today (vinyl will be less expensive - not necessarily cheaper quality). If you are going to change out a window to a french door and a door to a window, then you WILL NEED to find a contractor with some carpentry experience. Some companies will tell you upfront that they do not handle those sorts of remodeling projects due to the complexity and time it would take to get it complete.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to personally help you with your project as we work in the New England Area. However, if you wish to talk further, please feel free to email me at: sven@ritewindow.com and I'll be happy to let you know our prices for what we offer so you can compare and hopefully find a similar company to do the work for you near the Austin area.

Cheers!

Get your roofer back out there.  Course of shingles above the window need to be pulled, self sealing flashing, drip caps, and counter and step flashing are going to be required here.

This is a flashing issue as the window connects to the mansard roof surface.

Condensation and a leak are two different and very noticeably different (i.e. volume) things.

Flashing and roofing on Mansards can be tricky but is sounds very much like a roofing issue.

?

+1

Much easier to scratch and typically not as good a finished quality as compared to glass.

Benefits are the resistance to breakage as mentioned by LCD.  Any glazing shop should be able to re-create that panel.

?

For a broken window (or leaking seal in multi-pane unit), for a standard roughly 2x3 foot window, can run from low of about $75-125 for single pane to more like $200-300 range for triple pane, depending on construction and any special ultraviolet or heat reflective coatings. If a removeable window unit, of course cheaper to remove it and take to replacement glass place then have them come out, measure glass size, order glass unit, then come back to install.

If taking in yourself, commonly they can do single-pane in an hour or two, but count on a week or so typically for sealed double or triple pane unit to come in, so you will have to seal the opening in the interim. That is an advantage of having them come out - they measure and determine type of unit on first visit and can seal with tape and plastic sheeting (if you have not already done that), then come back with new unit and install a week or two down the road - but you are not stuck with an opening in the wall for a long time.

We never received the quote for the security gate. We tried following up with the sales person directly but he still didn't get back to us. We are very disappointed as we had heard positive things about the company but it doesn't seem like they want or need our business. It's possible we would still use them but unlikely since they won't return our calls.

I ended up not needing the patio door at all, so I requested I refund. I am still having them come out to service the door track. They’re very professional and attentive to the details, and not just about selling the product.

Contractor showed up on time, and performed work promptly. We had a particularly difficult door frame that required a bit of cement work and a very difficult exterior door frame removal (those 1960's houses are tough nuts to crack sometimes). Overall very pleased, and the cost for a door/installation from Home Depot (this is our local HD's installation contractor) was significantly cheaper than a local company specializing in door installation.

This is the second job I have asked

to help me with. This time it was my front door. I could not enter the front door unless I rammed my shoulder into it from the outside. Opening from the inside was impossible. While

Billings Door Installers Provider Name Locked
appeared. He coordinated with me prior to getting to my scheduled job. He arrived on time on the scheduled day. He was very careful to not damage anything else on or in the house. I consider

the Mozart or Beethoven of door repair in regards to the quality and preciseness of his work. He is a perfectionist.

The Magician may be a better analogy in regards to the types of problems he fixes.

knows how house builders put doors in and how the prefabricated door frames are manufactured. He can adjust, rebuild or repair any door problem. Even if my house slab continues to cause problems,

They were incredible!! I obtained 7 quotes before I started my job. Read countless reviews on Angies List and the BBB. I have to say it was a daunting process. Quotes were all over the place. I was lied to by some companies ( one of the "big box" stores). Some companied tried to "scare" you into doing the job by pointing out all the break in points. Some companies would only give you "the price" if you signed then and there...the pressure and sales tactics were ridiculous!

who came and did the final measure was great and further explained the process and what I can expect. They kept me informed, filed all permits, picked up the doors I purchased and were most professional and respectful of my property!

They completed the job on time, no

costs, no MESS. I work from home and have 2 dogs which are a handful. They were respectful of my work space and very careful to be sure no to let the dogs loose.

The doors and windows passed inspection with no issues, apparently this is not always the case with some companies, but my

County inspector was very impressed with the job and even commented on what a great job they did and what a deal I got!!

My neighbors all have commented on what a great job they did and how nice my home looks. Replacing my windows and doors reduced my hurricane premium by more than 1000.00 a year!! So not only door I feel safer, more secure, I am going to be saving money!

Would I use them again? Heck yes, I only wish I had more windows to replace!! Hurricane Windows and Doors are a huge investment there is no other way to say that..but in the long run it is so worth it and if anyone is thinking of replacing old doors and windows---DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND CONTACT

My experience went very well. He ordered the doors, and he came and installed them. If I had any problems, he came right away. I actually didn’t have any problems. Everything went really smoothly with him. He had a good price. He was reliable and professional. It’s just a really great company.
