"I contacted
in mid December to get a quote on approximately 250'x18" vinyl soffit. I had been told by another vinyl company that" the new construction that I was doing needed to be firred out so that the material could be attached on no more than 12" centers.
told me that was incorrect. (she later confirmed that I did indeed need to fir it out ) She offered to provide both a quote on materials as well as an installed price. I said great. She said the quote would be ready in a day or two. A few weeks go by and no quote. I called
back. She said they were too backed up to do the install. I said OK, can you provide the quote on the materials. She said I would have it within a day. Towards the end of January I had not received the quote. I was having a hard time finding quality material at Lowes, 84 lumber and Home Depot, they only sold a flimsy material. So I called back
(
) She apologized and said she would have a quote to me in a day. I waited a day and a half checking my spam filter periodically. I called and she said she had sent the quote. This was the content of the quote; "Received pricing from suppliers and one will be increasing prices on Monday, so based on our conversation, I'm pricing your fully vented soffit with channel at roughly $550.00 plus tax/delivery based on pre-increase pricing." So I sent her an email that outlined what I thought I needed as far as quantities of various materials to make sure that what she was quoting would cover the area I needed. I also asked what Mfr and Model of vinyl panel she was quoting to make sure it wasn't the same flimsy stuff sold by Lowes, et
. She called my office, and when I called her back she wouldn't give me any further information, her excuses for not giving me further information included 1) They really didn't sell material. (She offered to sell me the material in the beginning) 2) She had an arrangement with the other vinyl installer where they didn't compete on each other's jobs. 3) She didn't like providing details because then I might go shop around for a better price. (I had already told her I would buy from her if she gave me the details I needed) If you can get past
and get a quote and don't try to get a competitive bid, they may (or may not) do a good job.

fiber cement siding

How much does siding cost to replace?

Siding is critical in protecting your home from weather and structural damage. Understand when you need to replace your siding and how much it costs.

Siding tip: Ask your siding installer for samples of grades, colors and textures and view them outside at different times of the day. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Paul E.)

Siding

Unless they are made of brick or stone, most homes are protected by some form of exterior siding. Traditionally made of wood, siding now comes in several materials including aluminum and vinyl. Each has its strengths and weaknesses to consider.

More homeowners are choosing fiber cement over vinyl siding or real wood due to its durability and natural look. Discover other reasons to consider it.

Especially if your home's vinyl siding is in the shade, it will require regular cleanings to prevent mold and mildew from appearing. (Photo by Katelin Kinney)

Vinyl siding is durable and easily cleaned. It just takes some elbow grease, or a high-powered pressure washer! Either way, read up on how to best clean vinyl.

Call and ask your contractors these questions.  Don't be afraid to ask questions.  It is your money and home.  I would ask for references and take a look at samples of their work (especially the low bidder).  Make sure all are licensed and carry the required insurance.  You don't want to get a bad stucco job, so do your homework first before selecting a contractor; which may not be one of these.  Check with your local building department and local building exchange for more references on these and other contractors.  Good luck.

Both choices have plusses and minuses.

I am partial to vinyl siding myself if it is put on by a contractor that pays attention to details in sealing against water intrusion. The better grades of vinyl stand up to the weater very well. The siding on my own home is over 15 years old and shows no signs of fading or any changes due to sun exposure and have had no problems with water entry around windows or doors. It does not dent like the old aluminum siding did or break if hit by a ball or a rock thrown by a lawnmower. As long as you save a few extra panels even if a rock was to be broken by something like a rock it is easier to repair. I will add that the earlier vinyl sidings did tend to fade but I have seen homes I sided after putting additions on that were done 20+ years ago and they look fine. Those closer to the 30 year mark not as good on the fading though. I gennerally never use the cheaper panels though so I can not vouch for them but I think that as long as it is one of the better manufaturers it seems to be just panel thickness. Just a personal opinion but if you are looking for added insulation I would use one of the 4X8 or 2X8 panels rather than the insulated siding. I can not see how insulation on the back of each panel with all the joints can do much more than stiffen the panels and I would think it would hamper the movement of the panels with changes in temperature.

As for Hardi or any of the other fibre cement sidings it is way more costly and relys on caulk or tar paper strips between the panels to seal out water. It is not very forgiving on install mistakes and must be done perfectly to get the full Hardi warranty. I was just involved with a job where the contractor did not put a few pieces of flashing in properly and his guys lapped a corner board incorrectly and the Hardi lifetime warranty was void. Another thing I did not like is that it is put in with a blind nailing method and even though this house was done to specs in this area of the install the bottom of the siding was not tight to the lower courses in many spots. They did install it to the maximum exposure and I believe if they had gone to a larger panel or even lessened the exposure by 1/2" it probably would have been fine. The other thing I saw was the paint seems to be prone to scratching durring install and to me the house looked like it needed a paint job even though siding was new. I do think that if painted after install a paint job would last many years as the product is very stable and does not expand and contract much. The one big plus I see is it tend to HELP in and area prone to fires such as some ares out West.  I put the word help in capitals because it will not fireproof the home but may stop ignition from sparks and moderate heat exposure.

Alside is the far superior siding. Another option with the Alside is the Center Lock panel. It locks in the center of the panel, eliminating wind blow-offs,has a 3/4 inch profile, and carries the same warranty as the Charter Oak

We purchased a new house and I wanted a door from the garage to the backyard. It required new fencing, concrete slab, and exterior light. I did everything I could to get them what they needed so that as soon as we closed (9/12/14) they could start work the next day. They thought it would be 3-days worth of work so I should have had my door finished by the 17th or 18th. Well I had the day about right, but not the month. It took them 2.5 months to finish the job. Some of it probably wasn't their fault (getting permits and things) but some of it definitely was. They had scheduling issues and things that they should have been able to work out in a shorter time frame. My biggest issue was the lack of updates. I would have expected at least weekly updates without having to be prompted. I would often wait a week or two and hear nothing. I would then have to call them to find out what was going on. The did good work, it just took WAY longer than I ever expected. My recommendation to customers would be to plan on saying on them and checking in with them. don't expect to get weekly updates. After dealing with other companies on other projects, it seems like this may be an issue industry wide, I just expect more.

Provider said he had influence with the insurance company to help me pay for the hail damage to the roof of my garage as well as 2 of the 4 sides. He didn't follow through with helping me on the roof but did finish the siding. Cleaned up after themselves, and were punctual as well as professional in manner.

service/sales people are very professional. They made it seem as though we were getting the work done through our friends. They were able to give us all of the information we were looking for, provided lots of options and were very patient with us. We shopped around and found that their prices were very reasonable. The projects went well. We have recommended

They did a great job and the quality of the workmanship is excellent. However, they do not call back. Communication was better when he was actively working, but now it is totally negative. He actually has my house key right now and some stain that is supposed to be applied yearly on the floor of the Portico. I have been asking for this since early November. In certain areas, there are knots showing through the paint. He was supposed to come back and fix this and the communication is still not effective. Since he is so unavailable, I just want my key and stain back, and the work on the knots that was promised to me.

He had a foreman that, he knew, was not in charge of things very well. He did not speak English and did not supervise the workers well. There was food garbage that animals got into. They did rectify the food issue once, but then it happened again. They used my towels from the laundry room without my permission. They did ask to use my sink, but they left it dirty. They also used my snow shovel and I did not find this out until I needed it to shovel snow.
