"All went like clockwork with minimal if any delay. The entire house was resided and all of the gutters and down spouts were also replaced as well as resealing the" sky-lite windows and scheduling the wooden
over our deck for staining in the spring to cover up all of the chips that were caused by the hail. The workers arrived on-time when scheduled and cleaned up after they were finished with no problems. Any concerns were minor but were also immediately addressed. They also paid attention to detail and the rep who originally called on us about the damage was on hand periodically to check on the progress of the work. Our house now looks like it is brand new!. Who could ask for anything more?

"I had four windows replaced. They did the work very efficiently in two days. Exterior and interior trim work was well done.

How much does siding cost to replace?

Siding is critical in protecting your home from weather and structural damage. Understand when you need to replace your siding and how much it costs.

Siding

Unless they are made of brick or stone, most homes are protected by some form of exterior siding. Traditionally made of wood, siding now comes in several materials including aluminum and vinyl. Each has its strengths and weaknesses to consider.

More homeowners are choosing fiber cement over vinyl siding or real wood due to its durability and natural look. Discover other reasons to consider it.

Especially if your home's vinyl siding is in the shade, it will require regular cleanings to prevent mold and mildew from appearing. (Photo by Katelin Kinney)

Vinyl siding is durable and easily cleaned. It just takes some elbow grease, or a high-powered pressure washer! Either way, read up on how to best clean vinyl.

Call and ask your contractors these questions.  Don't be afraid to ask questions.  It is your money and home.  I would ask for references and take a look at samples of their work (especially the low bidder).  Make sure all are licensed and carry the required insurance.  You don't want to get a bad stucco job, so do your homework first before selecting a contractor; which may not be one of these.  Check with your local building department and local building exchange for more references on these and other contractors.  Good luck.

Both choices have plusses and minuses.

I am partial to vinyl siding myself if it is put on by a contractor that pays attention to details in sealing against water intrusion. The better grades of vinyl stand up to the weater very well. The siding on my own home is over 15 years old and shows no signs of fading or any changes due to sun exposure and have had no problems with water entry around windows or doors. It does not dent like the old aluminum siding did or break if hit by a ball or a rock thrown by a lawnmower. As long as you save a few extra panels even if a rock was to be broken by something like a rock it is easier to repair. I will add that the earlier vinyl sidings did tend to fade but I have seen homes I sided after putting additions on that were done 20+ years ago and they look fine. Those closer to the 30 year mark not as good on the fading though. I gennerally never use the cheaper panels though so I can not vouch for them but I think that as long as it is one of the better manufaturers it seems to be just panel thickness. Just a personal opinion but if you are looking for added insulation I would use one of the 4X8 or 2X8 panels rather than the insulated siding. I can not see how insulation on the back of each panel with all the joints can do much more than stiffen the panels and I would think it would hamper the movement of the panels with changes in temperature.

As for Hardi or any of the other fibre cement sidings it is way more costly and relys on caulk or tar paper strips between the panels to seal out water. It is not very forgiving on install mistakes and must be done perfectly to get the full Hardi warranty. I was just involved with a job where the contractor did not put a few pieces of flashing in properly and his guys lapped a corner board incorrectly and the Hardi lifetime warranty was void. Another thing I did not like is that it is put in with a blind nailing method and even though this house was done to specs in this area of the install the bottom of the siding was not tight to the lower courses in many spots. They did install it to the maximum exposure and I believe if they had gone to a larger panel or even lessened the exposure by 1/2" it probably would have been fine. The other thing I saw was the paint seems to be prone to scratching durring install and to me the house looked like it needed a paint job even though siding was new. I do think that if painted after install a paint job would last many years as the product is very stable and does not expand and contract much. The one big plus I see is it tend to HELP in and area prone to fires such as some ares out West.  I put the word help in capitals because it will not fireproof the home but may stop ignition from sparks and moderate heat exposure.

Alside is the far superior siding. Another option with the Alside is the Center Lock panel. It locks in the center of the panel, eliminating wind blow-offs,has a 3/4 inch profile, and carries the same warranty as the Charter Oak

It was excellent and couldn’t have gone any better. Scheduling was extremely easy. They came when they said they would, talked us through the procedure and was extremely professional. Their cleanup was also excellent. I would definitely use them again.

I cannot complain about the quality of the project. However, the time it took to complete the project was not acceptable. I had paid for multiple parts of the project paid for more than once. Now that I look back on it, all the estimates I was given were very vague.

We had

come here, actually twice. Last year we were quoted for siding, then we received a phone call this year that siding had been drastically reduced, we could save thousands! With that phone call we decided to investigate siding again and scheduled four folks a week ago to come and quote the job.
Laurel Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
from
Laurel Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
was the first, knowledgeable and his pricing was about a thousand dollars less than the quote from a year ago. It did not include the porch, lower rear section of the house or detail on the sun room. Other quotes we received later in the week did include these pieces of the home. We went with another company who quoted less and is enthusiastic to complete the job.

came out and created a thorough proposal, meeting all of our needs. Their pricing came out exactly the same as another vendor's, but I felt much more comfortable with
Laurel Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
, as well as the positive reviews on Angie's List. As you can see by the pictures, we had a dated 1970's style home, with wood siding that had suffered from weather and termites. Our original plan was simply to paint the wood, But, you know how that goes - our vision for the project kept growing to the point that we decided to completely replace the wood with cement board siding.
The demolition work was done by a 2 person team and happened over a 2 day period. Then the work of installing the insulation and vapor

happened. Our chief installer was so meticulous and accurate, matching my anal style to a 'T'. My only complaint is that this 2 person team needed to grow much sooner to the 4-5 person team needed to move things along. The original estimate was around 5-6 days to install, but in the end it took closer to 14 days. This caused a domino effect in my contracted patio cover install and paint job. Oh well - in the end, that delay was worth it since the job was done to perfection, and the house looks beautiful! And the boxing in of the

I would definitely hire

Mr.
Laurel Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
drove up to the front of the house, proceeded to go through the back of his vehicle looking for some things he wanted to be able to estimate the cost of the work. He did not
Laurel Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
me first, but commented something about children moving things in the car. He finally gave up and came up the front sidewalk where I had been standing. He looked around the outside, asked about siding, trim, etc. but commented that there might be a problem with moving/removing the electrical wires attached to the side of the house. That seemed to be a major concern. He proceeded to go into the back to look, took some photos, did not sit down to talk with me about his products, except Colonial was rated very highly with
Laurel Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
. His final statement to me was he would get back to us in a week or so with his estimate, which actually took two weeks.
I was not impressed at all. After he left the house, he took a few more photos, then proceeded to empty out the contents of the back of his vehicle in front of my house on the street. Very unprofessional.

Our garage addition also required approval from our neighborhood association before building could begin. Our project involved several challenges which included elevation, roof pitch, property lines, underground utilities and irrigation issues, as well as attempting to match existing siding and roofing materials as the home is 12 years old. Each challenge was resolved,

One of the things we loved about working with
Laurel Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
was the ideas they had. We had worked previously with an architect to get ideas and we actually liked
Laurel Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
's ideas and plans better. I wanted a large open kitchen/sunroom addition with lots of windows and a patio door where I could see the countryside and we loved his ideas on how to achieve it. He also suggested a covered porch off of the kitchen/sunroom with a fan that is great for sitting outside. We enlarged and covered the front porch as well. It was a very large project because not only were we adding an addition, we were also bringing the rest of the house up to modern day standards as it had no central heat, very few lights and outlets and no upstairs bath. We added outlets/switches/lights to each room, the basement, the attic, as well as many ceiling fans. We had issues with old plaster that needed to be repaired/replaced. Most of the wood floors were refinished except for in the kitchen/dining room/laundry room where we had to put down new flooring. They added a laundry room with a closet and laundry tub vanity. The entire interior of the house was repainted as well. We took one of the upstairs bathrooms and made it into a bathroom. The toilet is enclosed in its own little room with a pocket door and we have a large shower, vanity and linen closet. We absolutely love the bathroom. However, our favorite room is the kitchen/sunroom. We had an idea for it from the architect but the architect still had a supporting wall in the plan (since we were knocking out the back corner of the house). I didn't care for it and
Laurel Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
came up with exactly what was in my head for a large open room with an island, lots of large windows and a patio door. He took the architect's plans and made them so much better. He also enlarged the doorway to the rest of the house to make it as large as possible to add to the openness. They also insulated the whole house and put in insulation and ventilation/soffits in the attic in addition to a new floor in the that just had boards over the joists. So they turned a creepy attic into a large usable storage space. Their carpenter is a genius. The old house had cherry trim around the windows but white trim on the inside of the windows. When replacing the windows he carefully matched new wood with old to create a trim around and inside the window frame to match. He also matched the wood work in the addition so that, even though we wanted white to match our white shaker-style cabinets, the trim was the same style. Also in the upstairs bathroom because of the new walls, he has to match trim as well. He built a matching frame around a large mirror in the upstairs bath which we love. We did encounter numerous issues along the way. The garage floor was not sloped and so did not drain and we ended up with large frozen puddles right after it was completed that winter. In the process of taking off the end of the house, since we had no central heat, the pipes froze and burst in the basement and the water softener was ruined. The time frame was way longer than we anticipated. There would be days when no one was working because the subs were working elsewhere. There were smaller issues that are bound to arise when doing construction. So we had our share of frustrating times. However having said that, in the end we absolutely LOVE our "new" farmhouse. Everything that was an issue was addressed and fixed. The garage floor was
Laurel Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
-hammered up and redone at a slope. All the busted pipes and the water softener were replaced. Smaller details were addressed. We have two residences and the farm was going to be our weekend getaway house. But we love it so much that we spend most of our time there and in a couple years we plan to sell our other house and just live there. In the end,
Laurel Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
told us he wanted us to be happy with the job and he would do whatever he had to do to get the job done right. I would hire him again knowing that the time frame might be longer than hoped but knowing that, in the end, the job would be done right.
