"This was overall a smooth transaction. The crews were on time for each visit and the project was completed on or before the expected date. There was a slight hitch" with one of the counter back splashes not fitting properly and the workmen chose to redo the back splash, which added an extra week, but they still completed the project on time. I chose laminate because it comes in lots of colors and I didn't want the typical granite countertop that is so popular right now. I was impressed with the quality of their work. They really seemed to care about their craftsmanship.

"We highly recommend
: they went the extra mile to make us smile.
(MGD) is a family company who keeps their promises:" they provided us quality materials, great workmanship, and excellent service. Three months after MGD installed our granite counters and fireplace surround, I am still excited to go into the kitchen each morning to enjoy the granite’s patterns and colors, and appreciate the workmanship and attention to detail that went into making our kitchen and fireplace almost unique. Every stage of the process with
- from initial inquiry and design through installation - went smoothly.
and the rest of the
team answered calls and emails promptly and kept on-time appointments. When we couldn’t decide on a granite slab from the on-site
asked us what we liked and disliked about the selection, then directed us to a warehouse with even more granite - there we found slabs that were almost exactly what we had been trying to describe. The installation price
quoted based on the initial kitchen measurements was comparable to other companies and we appreciated that every cost was quoted up front, there were no
sent a team to template the kitchen and fireplace: we were impressed that Mr.
himself came to advise and supervise. Due to the beautiful variations in our granite slabs,
invited us to participate in the sink and
top placements, and in choosing which granite patterns would be featured on the breakfast bar, island, and peninsula.
was SO patient, and we really appreciated being included in the decision making process, however her aesthetic sense in optimizing the design and the pattern to match our surface area was far more professional than we could have suggested. Trust
’s judgement! MGD fitted the granite installation into our house moving timeframe, and did EVERYTHING in one day. The counter design had as few joints as possible to ensure that the patterns flowed naturally, and it was impressive to see
and his guys work as a team to move enormous pieces of granite into place. They cut the
top and sink hole on site making a surprisingly small amount of dust… which they cleaned up without being asked! While one team worked on installing the sink/stovetop, and finishing/sealing the kitchen counters, another team installed the fireplace and hearth. The workmanship was superb, and the team's good attitudes were really appreciated. When they were finished, the installation team gave us a lovely square block of granite that we now use as a pizza-rolling slab. After everything was installed, we loved
’s work so much that we requested a special type of high backsplash for the
area, we preferred their granite art to the tile we had planned. I wasn’t sure there was enough granite left in the size we needed, so we expected to have a jigsaw pattern or a piece of granite that somewhat matched. We were surprised and delighted a few weeks later when
’s team presented us with a one-piece backsplash that was the perfect size AND matched the counter top flow of color and pattern perfectly. Not sure how they did this, but we really appreciate that they went the extra mile to make it happen.
’s granite installation flows from the counter area around and up the back of the sink, onto the breakfast bar, then draws your eye to the fireplace the other side of the family room. The way the colors flow it looks as though one continuous piece of granite was used for these sections, but it is really very clever design work by
and her team and quality installation by
and his team. It’s like living and working in an art gallery: each area of the kitchen has unique granite highlight features that make cooking – or just hanging out by the tea
– a beautiful experience. Thank you

Artificial (quartz) is cheaper, more uniform, has fewer voids to collect dirt, and is almost as abrasion and chip resistant.

Granite is more expensive, stains and collects dirt a little easier as a rule, and is slighly more chip resistant as a rule.

For durability, I would not rate one over the other - barring a 250 lb guy hopping up on it and cracking it, either is likely to outlive you. Selection is typically based on appearance - quartz tends to be more uniform looking and does not always do a good job of simulating the veining and variations that natural stone has.

Now some of the man made stone counters rival the real granite and othe stones without the maintainence of stone. There are many of them out there and it is more a choice of looks than anything else. Corian is still a strong choice of tops today and one advantage is it can be repaired when scratched on site. If you don't mind the maintainence you can't beat the looks of real stone though unless you need a few pieces to make up the top as the graining may be hard to match up. I am impressed though at how realistic some of the man made products have become. It is more an issue of what brand are available in your area. Most all are made the same way with crushed stone and basically an epoxy binder used to make the sheets.

Countertop Installation reviews in Hattiesburg

Things started out well enough. The guy doing the template noted that a short wall had a bow in it but he made the template to fit, making a note to the fabricators to “cut to template”. The fabricators didn’t do it, though, and instead the counter was put in with a straight

, leaving a 3/8” gap along part of the wall. I caught this and had the installers correct it.
The seam along the longest counter was to be in line with the sink divider, but it was off to the left by 1/4”. The installers drilled the single faucet hole another 1/4” to the left, leaving a 1/2” mistake. My faucet base is thin enough that the hole could only be widened 1/16” as a corrective measure, so the faucet remains off center.
The fabricators attempted to make a

biscuit cut at the seam but cut all the way through the front. The installers used the wrong color epoxy to fill in the hole.
I requested a pencil-round

. Some counters had no

, others had a flat bevel, some were a variation of bevel and round and nothing.
My bushes in the front yard were covered with silicone sealer when the crew left.
I brought these issues up with City Rock and they sent two guys out to address the edges. They improved but are still uneven. Can’t fix the faucet hole; bushes will have to recover on their own; no fix for the epoxy in front of the sink. In the mean time, while going back and forth with their front office about these issues, I was pestered by their finance person multiple times looking for a payment. At my suggestion of a discount for all the errors I was offered a measly $100 (2%) discount for all the mistakes. I was then presented with another invoice that did not include the discount.
I’m sure there are worse companies doing this, but overall the experience with these folks was uncoordinated and wrought with errors that a little bit of care would have prevented. So I am left living with their mistakes while they walk off with my money and probably will continue to make similar mistakes at other homes.

They were very friendly, responsive, and timely. They communicated well
with me and did an excellent job. The day of the install, they covered
my flooring to protect it. I couldn't be more happy with the process and
my new granite counters and stainless steel under mount sink.I highly
recommend them.

, who I believe is the owner of the company, was very helpful during selection of marble and writing up the order. I picked up what I had ordered and brought it to my house for installation. The plumber looked at it and said, "did you have the sink installed crooked for a reason?" Of course not. I looked at it and it was turned so that overflow drain hole was an inch to the side and the sink did not sit squared with the marble top. I returned to the warehouse on Saturday and Mr.

apologized and said he had "a new guy" and it would be fixed. I picked up the top/sink on Monday and noticed the sink was still crooked. Mr.

said that all his sinks have an overflow drain that doesn't line up and no sink ever lines up just right. If it works, it's ok. I returned home with the sink/top again. Plumber said, "it's still crooked." Returned to the warehouse Tuesday morning with the sink. Mr.

heatedly told me "to leave and not return." I left shaking. I met the contractor on the job at the house who looked at what I was now stuck with. I asked, "am I crazy or am I making a big deal out of nothing?" He replied after looking at it with a t-square that the sink was obviously set crooked in the marble. He spent a good bit of time removing the sink, lining it up, regluing it, and resetting the clamps. It's now square with the marble top. I intended to use this company for my kitchen renovation but will not and would not recommend anyone subject themselves to this kind of beratement by a business owner.

I had been considering regular slab granite countertops to dress up our kitchen and get the house ready to sell, then met with the owner of the shop in Morrisville, who came out and gave me lots of great information that I hadn't gotten anywhere else, such as the weight of slab granite, its relative brittleness, and risk that if something chips or stains one part, there's not much you can do to fix it other than replace the whole slab.
For those reasons, plus a deal I got through Angie's List, I went with
Hattiesburg Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
, and I'm extremely happy with the results. Not having the kitchen torn apart for two days, and having a great-looking result that's not going to put extra strain on cabinets that weren't originally built to hold slab granite, plus the better durability of these tops over slab granite, and the lifetime warranty on these, I would definitely consider doing this again for future houses.
They did have to come back out a week after to re-caulk the sink as the caulk didn't dry (in over a day) before it got wet, and so wouldn't set up. I'm noticing some whitening of caulk next to the sink at the bottom of the backsplash as well, so I don't know if the caulk just wasn't a good bottle or what. I would recommend that if they don't cover it with some good painter's tape, that you do after it's been drying for a day, just to protect it from getting wet.
- Jess H.

Measurements off. Cut faucet hole in wrong place. Ran out of caulk. Took a month to come back to try and fix what they could but could not make the job totally right without replacing the granite which they, of course, did not offer to do.
- Jeffrey J.

I contacted the company via Angie's List and set up a time for a contractor to come out for a consultation on my kitchen. I had seen a deal on Angie's List but I wanted to expand upon it -- I wanted additional things done in my kitchen than the deal offered -- so I requested somebody to come out and take a look at the project to see if it was something they could take on and how much it would cost over the cost of the deal.
I left work early to meet the contractor. He called and said he needed to reschedule for the following day.
I left work early the next day to meet the contractor. He called FIVE minutes before he was scheduled to arrive saying he couldn't make it and he would call to reschedule.
It's been almost two weeks and I haven't heard from the company. I guess they don't need my business.
