"I had taken the day off from work. My friend had rearranged her schedule to be able to transport me to and from the office. I bought the colon prep. All sorts" of plans were made and I purposely got everything done in very good time so that a mix up would not happen. Absolutely irresponsible and unprofessional on their part.

"Dr.
began by letting me he's slowly retiring over the next few years...he should already have done so since he has no bedside manner" left and obviously little concern for the overall wellbeing of patients. First I was blamed for my previous GI records not being there; something the scheduling staff member should have done since I made it clear I have an extensive GI history and have been using a biological for ulcerative colitis since April 2015. Then the in office documentation regarding me medical history became distorted in translation which again was my fault; I communicated to the RN performing my assessment an allergic reaction in Feb 2015 to a drug being used for treatment of a side effect to another colitis drug which resulted in an emergency hospital admission...this became "allergic esophagitis" and Protonix resolved it. Reality is I had been on Protonix for nearly 9 months prior to the allergic reaction because of esophagitis and stomach ulcers;Protonis WAS NOT the treatment for an allergic reaction and my esophagitis was/is not from that allergic reaction. To make matters worse when Dr.
saw I also take an antidepressant he suggested my colonic issues may be psychosomatic! Yes, I've willed myself to have diarrhea continuously at more than ten times per day for over a year, have submitted to 3 colonoscopies in 18 months (as well as 2 EGDs), and ultimately lost my job because of the the extended medical leave I had used for my GI issues...REALLY? The antidepressant was prescribed to assist in leveling me out at night so I could sleep, but since I didn't have my records there he would not know that and chances are good he would not have reviewed them prior to my visit anyway! Let's close this horrific experience with Dr.
refusing to renew my Simponi prescription expiring in mid-September, suggesting I need a different biological therapy though Simponi is working, I have to see him again a come Sep 23, 2015, and can only hope he's reviewed my past records by then. If not then I will no longer have the working, proven therapy of Simponi which will again leave me glued to my home & toilet.

Nurse assigned to my care prior and following the procedure was pleasant, explained everything clearly and answered questions without hesitation. Post operative instructions were provided to my after care person. A very clean facility.

The only reason I would not use this facility in the future is that Dr.

has ownership in the clinic.

I have no complaint about Dr.
Clinton Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
's performance of the colonoscopy, however, I was medicated and do not remember any of it, so can't really grade on his performance there. No bad after effects. He was polite, pleasant and focused for the 5 minutes I saw him prior to procedure getting started.
After the procedure I was advised that the results would be mailed to me. When I asked about a follow up appointment to discuss my digestive/colon problems with Dr.
Clinton Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
, I was told they don't schedule follow-ups unless there is a problem. I scheduled a follow up appointment since the colonoscopy results came back clean. However, it did not take away the problems I was experiencing, which caused my primary doctor to refer me to Dr.
Clinton Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
for GI care in the first place.
On my follow-up appointment Dr.
Clinton Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
was very direct and to the point telling me my colonoscopy was clean and there was no problems. When I tried to ask questions about the discomfort I have been experiencing and what caused the bouts of bloody stool, he bluntly stated that he was sorry that he couldn't tell me I had some horrible disease. When I told him I was pleased to hear that, however, what would be causing me stomach and colon pain/discomfort he had no answer for me. When asked what do I do if I have more bouts of the bloody stool, he told me to just see ________(he named a General Surgeon) who is in the Valley instead of me driving all the way to Anchorage to see him. He had his office staff give me some info on a special diet that may help with any stomach issues that I might be having and told me to call him in 3 weeks with a report.
I have no plans to see this Dr.
Clinton Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
again and would not recommend him to anyone. I am working with a different doctor now.

First, Dr.

came in after to talk with me about what research has indicated for treatment of asthma/sinus issues exacerbated by acid reflux/heartburn. He explained everything in a manner I could understand and was very educational. The medication treatment takes 3-6 months to see the full effect of how much it might help my particular problem. I will return in 3 months for a follow-up visit.

Dr.
Clinton Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
is extremely compassionate and intelligent. I have been going to him for several years. He was the first doctor to diagnose my particular condition and to prescribe The one medication that actually helps. I had been to several other doctors before him, and none of them seemed to understand my issue, and I never got proper drugs. My husband also sees him and Dr.
Clinton Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
performed a procedure on him 7/19/15. It was very successful. The office is extremely well run, and immaculate. The staff is very efficient. My only complaint is that it is difficult to get an appointment, There is usually a two or three month wait for an appointment. However, the staff is very good about returning phone calls to answer questions.

After having a few attacks, I realized that they might be caused by my gallbladder. After visiting my GP and getting an ultrasound and a CT scan with Iodine contrast with no abnormal results, I tried to get in to see a gastro doctor....the first open appt wasn't for 8 weeks! I then had to go back to my GP, ask them to try to get me in sooner...it was still 4 weeks and it was with Dr. Makkar. He was very personable. He then had me get blood work, do a Hydrogen breath test (for SIBO). The hydrogen breath test showed that I tested positive for SIBO, so I took an antibiotic that cost me $680 (after a ~$700 "coupon" from the drug supplier and insurance)...but I continued to have attacks. I then received an email form his staff saying that the bloodwork was "normal", but no details...I had to go to the hospital myself to get the results and 2 of the results were abnormal. Fine. With continued attacks, and having lost 15 lbs. and counting (from not being able to eat fat...and loss of appetite from the attacks and continued right upper quadrant pain, I then had a HIDA scan. I received an email from his staff stating that the results were "not overtly abnormal"?? Again, I went back down to the hospital to get the real results, to find that I had an overactive gallbladder - 98% ejection fraction...and by the way, reproduction of attack symptoms during the scan. My next appt was 6 week later, so I did some digging on the internet and found several studies that stated that 98% of patients with symptoms like mine had complete resolution of symptoms with gallbladder removal. So I went to the appt with the results and studies in hand, only to be told that he thought that the studies were nonsense ("you can't believe studies"), and that since I had no abnormal results in his opinion, he had to

out "everything else"...so then I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy. With the next appt another 6 weeks away, and no hope in sight, I asked him what the next step was going to be if this all turned out to be negative (if they found nothing) before he even did the scopes. He said that we would "talk"...I asked him about what? He said IBS...seriously?? I asked him if ANY of my symptoms/attacks could be explained by IBS, and he said no. So I asked him why we would even talk about that...no response. So I pushed for a surg. consult, because I knew that it was my gallbladder. He begrudgingly agreed to it. The tests showed nothing, everything was normal, so he referred me to a surgeon...and I couldn't get in for another 6 weeks. I felt that I could not get a second opinion anywhere in town, because every gastro in town is with this practice (and no one is going to contradict another diagnosis within a practice), and I wasn't sure the surgeon would give an unbiased opinion about my situation, given that the gastro Dr. who referred me didn't think I needed surgery. I was ready to try to find someone at Cleveland Clinic...or become a Canadian citizen so I could get quicker health care (just joking). It just so happens that I work out at the gym with a surgeon (different specialty)...who offered to refer me to a surgeon for a second opinion in case I wanted it. They got me in the next day and within 5 min. he said that he recommended taking out the gallbladder...I scheduled surgery with him and was able to get it scheduled quicker than I could get the consult with the other surgeon. Well guess what? I am a month out after having that gallbladder removed and have no symptoms, no attacks and no more weight loss - I can eat fat again without fear of an attack! No thanks to Dr. Makkar... It was 5 and a half months of pure torture and frustration - having a doctor that wouldn't listen to you and wouldn't even consider studies or even think about surgery...emails with false/misleading information regarding test results...more than a month between every test/visit...and so expensive - I was past my deductible before all of the crazy diagnostics he ordered were completed...I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone. I guess the only good thing that came out of my experience with
Clinton Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
Gastro is that I got my colonoscopy out of the way 2 years early and now I'm good to go for 10 yrs. (or least I think so - their email said it was all normal - I wonder if that was correct?) P.S. - my surgeon told me that the gallbladder was completely lined with microcrystalline cholesterol...it definitely needed to come out. Oh, just a word about billing - there's no option to pay online...really? In this day and age? I had to buy stamps because the only way you can pay is by check or credit card and mail in the stub...wow.

First thing I was asked to sign a release that I could not read. The release was printed out, but there was only a signature pad provided and I could not see what I was signing. I refused to sign until the signature and the document I was signing could be seen together. This was greeted with a large amount of consternation. They final allowed me into the office where I could see the computer screen. The irony is the very next patient to come in made the same challenge that I did...it was perfect.
Then, when I met with the new physician, one of the first things he told me was they were doing things differently now. I'll say. I was treated with condescension and like I was an idiot (I have a PhD in a science). Then when it came to scheduling the appointment I was told that I had to find some other way to get home than a taxi. I am single, I have no one I can call on in the area to do personal favors for me and, while I understand the need to be driven home (I did have one of these procedures before) I was not offered any alternatives. I feel that this is blatant discrimination against single people. I eventually canceled my appointment for the procedure as I could not find anyone who could sit around for a couple of hours and then take me home.
The whole experience was very unpleasant. While they were not unprofessional, they were uncaring and uncreative. I felt like a piece of meat.

My first experience with this group was mixed, almost every interaction before and after the colonoscopy was unpleasant. The procedure itself, after I switched Dr's, went well.
I was pretty sick at the time and really needed to have the colonoscopy. I was very disappointed with my first Dr at the initial visit he spent just a couple of minutes with me, didn't ask about my symptoms or history at all. I had an out of pocket co-pay of $70.00, left feeling like I just wasted my time and money. I called to reschedule with another Dr that was recommended to me and they gave me an appointment with his PA. She was okay, spent a little more time with me but also seemed to be in a hurry and more interested in scaring me into having a procedure that I already knew i needed and was going to have. The colonoscopy was done at their endoscopy center, the staff there and the Dr that did the procedure were all friendly and professional, a much better experience than going to their main office.
It's time for me to have another colonoscopy so I called to schedule with this same group. I was not looking forward to dealing with the staff, scheduling, medical assistants and billing people in the main office but knew the actual procedure would be done by completely different staff, friendly and competent so I decided to go back to this group.
I tried but wasn't able to make an appointment. I have a Blue Cross Blue Shield bronze POS plan with a 6,000.00 out of pocket. I pay $537.00 per month premium no subsidies bought on the individual

NOT part of the marketplace known as Obamacare. During my initial call I was told by the girl that answered the phone that they didn't take my insurance because it was a PATHWAY product aka Obamacare. I knew she was wrong so I asked to speak to someone in billing. The person in billing looked up my insurance information and said she couldn't find any info on me at all and I needed to call my insurance company to verify my plan and call them back. I called my insurance company and they verified to me that my policy was active and not part of the Obamacare marketplace, it was considered off
Clinton Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
and not subsidized. They explained to me that Dr's offices often confused the designation of a policy as pathway with being part of Obamacare when in fact the designation of being a pathway product only means it complies with the new higher standards of the law. They also informed me that as part of my benefit package I was due for a colonoscopy with no out of pocket cost to me. This office never mentioned that as a possibility and wanted to immediately just put me on the schedule as self pay and charge me $1,200.00.
I called the office back and explained all of this to them, billing said they would talk to the insurance company and call me right back, she never did. It's seems to me that patient care is definitely not the first priority of this group and they have allowed people who have a wrong and superficial understanding of the the new healthcare law to make policies that are impacting many more people than they intended.
