" Reule and his staff worked with me throughout the entire process, While I knew that the house needed new stucco and the color needed updating" I was not certain of much else. and , one of his staff, were extremely helpful and patient in helping me with color choices for the stucco and the trim. As so often happens with older homes, as they progressed with the prep work, it became apparent that some other things also needed attention. I ended up replacing three exterior doors in the back of the house prior to the re-stuccoing. As a result, the Reule staff had to coordinate their work with additional workmen. It required adjustments in scheduling, but they were very cooperative in doing so. Reule did the re-framing and installation of a new side side door in the garage, replacing an old weathered door. A large bush had caused a great deal of damage to a yard wall. This caused misalignment of the side-gate and made securing of the gate difficult. Once the bush was removed, the men repaired the side wall and realigned the gate. The yard walls, bordering the front yard, were waist high and stucco. Due to time and weathering the stucco was in need of some cosmetic work. Minor repairs were done, the stucco was patched and color match the house. A stucco half wall, serving as a base for a long flower box, extended from a structural pillar near the front door along the entryway walk. It had severe water damage and "imploded" down into the base. It was decided to remove that structure up to the pillar. The structural pillar was just a few feet from the front door and had an open level portion under the eve. Pigeons had begun to roost there and were making a mess. After discussing the problem with the workmen, it was decided to extend the stucco up an additional few inches and eliminating the perching area. Problem solved (so far!). The paint mixture designed to match the stucco color, turned out to not be an exact match for the garage doors and the trim around them. It took a few attempts, but kept working with it and was able to come up with a paint "recipe" that matched the stucco. and the workmen were always on time, did what they said that they would do (sometimes more) when they said they would do it, stayed on schedule, were courteous, easy to work with and very helpful. stopped by intermittently to see how things were going, and was kept updated through , as well. While this ended up as a much bigger undertaking than I had initially anticipated, everything that was done was long overdue and with an eye on resale one day. Everyone I dealt with at Ruele Sun was incredibly helpful. and were a terrific help throughout the process.I love how my house now looks and would readily recommend Ruele Sun for re-stuccoing.

"I was very happy with the final results. The workers were very professional in their work. They cleaned up after themselves each day they were here. While they where" here working they took great care to not get dust or dirt into the rooms while they worked. The owner was very knowledgeable and helpful. Also very patient. I had to make a some changes throughout the process.

stucco house

Considering stucco? Make the exterior of your home stand out with this centuries-old siding technique by hiring the right contractor. Have some fun with stucco colors and textures or choose a similar-looking alternative, called EIFS.

Because stucco requires an individual approach, be careful about who you hire to work on it.

Angie's Answers

My sister-in-law uses brite white toothpaste and rubs it into those small holes. No prep, no sanding.

I've used wall liner (it applies like wallpaper only thicker) to cover a multitude of "wall sins" over the years. In my opinion it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It doesn't look cheap or tacky, it's inexpensive, non-labor intensive and not messy to install.

I used it for the first time about 15 years ago to cover a faux brick tile on my lower kitchen walls that couldn't be removed. It was either tear the wall down or take a chance on $40 worth of wall liner. It did the job beautifully and lasted. Since then I've used it to cover paneling, a badly gouged wall after a kitchen remodel and a wall that looked like a pegboard after floor to ceiling shelving was removed.

Friends and family (and realtors!) have been amazed by the transformation after applying this simple inexpensive product.

Remember, you not only have to remove the popcorn texture, but also redo the ceiling in some other texture.

Price will depend on several factors:

1) how much the contractor you choose hates removing popcorn or textured ceilings - some charge $1 or so/SF extra just because they hate it. There are even some who bid total drywall replacement cheaper than removing the popcorn, so you have to first find contractors who are happy to do that work, or your prices will be out of the realistic range

2) if the popcorn predates about 1990, then it could likely have asbestos in it, which doubles or triples the price, and in many cases uncapsulating it with a spray coating and then removing the drywall entirely is actually cheaper than all the protective measures necessary if it is scraped off.

3) whether the popcorn is primarily gypsum and vermiculite (comes off REAL easy) or was the plaster of paris variety, which takes a fair amount of soaking to soften it enough to scrape off

4) what type of finish you are replacing it with - if a textured ceiling, slapcoat, knockdown finish or paneling, not real problem. If you want to go with a perfectly smooth ceiling (generally a bad idea as any variations in the drywall on a ceiling surface really shows up dramatically), then it will demand a lot of care in preparing the scraped surface, and a complete surface drywall compound skim coat to smooth out the scrapes and gouges from the removal process.

5) what underlying conditions are - if there is a lot of furniture to move around (should go to adjacent rooms) or cover and work around, high-quality rug or hardwood floor to super-protect or such, will drive cost up.

I have seen costs run from as low as $0.60/SF to $1.25/SF (for removal only). Generally, remove and recoat with a surface texture of some kind (anything but smooth) and paint will run you about $2.50-3.50/SF.

Now the bad news - if asbestos containing, can run from $5-10/SF. Many homeowners in that situation go the other legal route - have it encapsulated with an asbestos-rated sealant by an asbestos contractor, then paint it and leave it for the next homeowner to decide what to do about it. Some contractors encapsulate it and then put a 1/4" thick drywall layer over it - this usually looks like a disaster unless it has a VERY rough textured finish on it, because putting drywall sheet over a rough surface like popcorn invariably means a wavy surface commonly looks like a gently rolling ocean surface.

Stucco Repair reviews in St. Louis

came when they said they would and the final product was amazing. Our walls looked like there had never been a problem. A carpenter who was doing some additional work on the house at the same time was also so impressed with their work that he took their business card and said he would recommend them to his clients who needed ...More stucco work done. I would use them again without hesitation if I ever need work done again.

Work was to repair bird damage to exterior stucco on our home.
He was late, but did call, to the initial meeting to see the work I needed. He provided a cost estimate and we got to the point of drafting a contract and he backed out due to my requiring a contract. It was a basic contract of start and completion times, the scope of work, costs, ...More etc. It seemed concerning to to have a work contract as he was "just a contractor" and he declined the job. After finding other stucco contractors "s bid for the work was very high, close to 2.5 times higher than what I paid for excellent work by another contractor. I would not recommend this company.
- Ward S.

provided the estimate and completed the project consistent with the estimate - no surprises. The work was completed in a very efficient, professional manner and appears to be of high quality, I would recommend and will call them again for future work.

Beware of . We had them over our home on 10/10/15 to clean the chimney for $60 and then they said they would clean our vents for an additional $110. They scheduled an appointment to come back to clean the vents and never showed up. We checked the bank and they had already cashed the check in the amount of $170 ($60 for chimney ...More sweep & $110 for vent cleaning). When we finally heard from them, they said that they had it scheduled for another day. We asked for a refund for the $110 on 10/10/15 and we are still waiting for the refund. We learned a tough lesson and want to warn you to beware of these guys. The owner of the business is .

This was a very good experience from the beginning. My contact was always with Bill , who would always return phone calls timely. I had some cracks in my garage stucco due to normal settling and wanted them patched. The estimate was the same as I'd gotten from another company, but Bill provided more detailed information ...More about the repairs, and mentioned that one of the areas required new metal lath. He also offered me an Angie's list discount. The work crew did a great job. They used a drop cloth and tape around the service door. The work was efficient, too. I saw the truck, the work and clean up was done quickly, and suddenly the truck was gone. I needed to have one additional patch done and, again, I looked out the window and saw that it had been completed (early on a Saturday morning). I would not hesitate to use this company again. I did meet Bill in person and he is a very easy person to work with, but also is professional.

- Donna S.

is great to talk to about your project. He did the stucco on my house in 2006. We had a failure on one of the EIFS pieces and offered to fix it as a warranty repair. I wanted some stone on the house - the face on a bump out and a water table on the front. provided an estimate ...More and I'm considering how much I can afford now. I suspect is not the lowest price service provider but I think he and his team do good work.

They worked really diligently to complete the project in the stated time frame and did so pretty well. They acknowledged having perhaps a few too many jobs at one time (probably everyone needed projects finished before the weather turned as we did!) to complete the job when expected which didn't pose any problems for us. They were courteous and ...More friendly and did a great job. They made a concerted effort to protect newly planted flowers and bushes which they did fairly well. Only a couple mishaps. They cleaned up very well (stucco work can be messy). , , is quiet and reserved and and , Mr. Stucco Master, is talkative and gregarious. Without reservation we'd re-hire them again and recommend them to friends.

- Robert W.

He was very professional. Gave me an estimate for the work, and explained exactly what was going to be done. He did the work as scheduled and cleaned up afterwards. Very professional, I would highly recommend him.
