Gastroenterology reviews in Cassville
The colonoscopy went fine, and Dr. details, preferring to keep things very "general". I have a technical background, so I like to understand what is being done, why, what the results mean or could mean, etc.
During the procedure, Dr.
During the follow-up visit, I NEVER got to speak to the doctor, only his PA. The PA told me that the pathology indicated micro-inflammation, and this was not a precursor to cancer and the cause was not always known. He also told me there was no correlation between micro-inflammation and more serious IBD conditions. Everything was fine up to that point, but then it got strange.
I told him I had not been taking the medication because the problem had abated, and he said they wanted me on it any way. He then said they would need to recheck me periodically to see if the medication was impacting my liver. I could not get a straight answer as to WHY I would take medication to control symptoms I did not have. He then said they wanted to do a follow-up colonoscopy every year, and they wanted me to take additional blood marker tests that may not be covered by my insurance.
I of course asked "why?" and he said, to check to see if you develop IBD. I said "I thought you said there is no correlation between the two?". He said although there was never any documented instance of this happening, they wanted to be "sure". This made absolutely no sense to me. As I pressed him, he said "tissue is king, but..." (referencing the pathology results). I still didn't understand and he was sort of agreeing with me, but basically said this is what the doctor wanted. Because the doctor NEVER made an appearance, I couldn't get any clarification.
In addition to all this, they asked many invasive questions on the admittance form, such as how many smoke detectors I have, my sexual history, whether there were guns in my house, etc. I refused to answer any of these questions, as they are irrelevant. They didn't seem to like that either.
In the end, I did not take the expensive, uncovered blood tests (the literature indicates there's a good reason why these are uncovered, they are usually inconclusive). I also never took the medication and I have yet to have a problem now 4+ months after doing the prep.
All-in-all, I would NOT recommend this practitioner. He seems to prescribe tests, procedures, and medications that may not be necessary, does not provide explanations, and does not make himself available during the diagnosis and follow-up stage.
