"Excellent! Highly recommend! Incredibly PRECISE fits around recessed fixture openings. Bill and his crew were punctual and worked steadily. Good clean-up also." We received beautiful top-notch work at

"
with
was great to work with! He was timely with our bid and sent over his credentials and insurance information" within 24 hours of talking to him. He was right in the middle for pricing and was always very conscious of our budget, which was tight. We were able to add some things that came up and still stay on track. We have a small bathroom but there was a lot of work. They were able to complete it in under 2 weeks time. All the trades were the friendliest people you could meet. They did a great job of cleaning up after the work days. When we moved into our home 6 years ago we had some work done that left us worried about picking a good contractor for our next job. We scored with
. I would recommend them to anyone and we will definitely be calling them for our next project.

Drywall and plaster

Knowing how your interior walls are constructed and what they are made of can help you take better care of your home, as well as provide effective maintenance. You can make small repairs yourself, but the more extensive the job the more likely you'll need a drywall repair contractor to make the wall smooth again.

Are those small Styrofoam balls on your ceiling bugging you? You can remove them yourself, or hire a drywall pro.

These service providers are your best bet to patch drywall or plaster holes that plumbers, electricians and other service providers may create while working.

Dear Angie: Who can I hire to remove a popcorn ceiling? How is it done and what will it cost? — Jonathan H. of Woodland Hills, California, and Marcia E. of Altamonte Springs, Florida

You may prefer the lived-in look, but a hole in the wall makes your home look a little too lived in. A pro tells how to repair a hole yourself and save money.

?
My sister-in-law uses brite white toothpaste and rubs it into those small holes. No prep, no sanding.
?

I've used wall liner (it applies like wallpaper only thicker) to cover a multitude of "wall sins" over the years. In my opinion it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It doesn't look cheap or tacky, it's inexpensive, non-labor intensive and not messy to install.

I used it for the first time about 15 years ago to cover a faux brick tile on my lower kitchen walls that couldn't be removed. It was either tear the wall down or take a chance on $40 worth of wall liner. It did the job beautifully and lasted. Since then I've used it to cover paneling, a badly gouged wall after a kitchen remodel and a wall that looked like a pegboard after floor to ceiling shelving was removed.

Friends and family (and realtors!) have been amazed by the transformation after applying this simple inexpensive product.

?

Remember, you not only have to remove the popcorn texture, but also redo the ceiling in some other texture.

Price will depend on several factors:

1) how much the contractor you choose hates removing popcorn or textured ceilings - some charge $1 or so/SF extra just because they hate it. There are even some who bid total drywall replacement cheaper than removing the popcorn, so you have to first find contractors who are happy to do that work, or your prices will be out of the realistic range

2) if the popcorn predates about 1990, then it could likely have asbestos in it, which doubles or triples the price, and in many cases uncapsulating it with a spray coating and then removing the drywall entirely is actually cheaper than all the protective measures necessary if it is scraped off.

3) whether the popcorn is primarily gypsum and vermiculite (comes off REAL easy) or was the plaster of paris variety, which takes a fair amount of soaking to soften it enough to scrape off

4) what type of finish you are replacing it with - if a textured ceiling, slapcoat, knockdown finish or paneling, not real problem. If you want to go with a perfectly smooth ceiling (generally a bad idea as any variations in the drywall on a ceiling surface really shows up dramatically), then it will demand a lot of care in preparing the scraped surface, and a complete surface drywall compound skim coat to smooth out the scrapes and gouges from the removal process.

5) what underlying conditions are - if there is a lot of furniture to move around (should go to adjacent rooms) or cover and work around, high-quality rug or hardwood floor to super-protect or such, will drive cost up.

I have seen costs run from as low as $0.60/SF to $1.25/SF (for removal only). Generally, remove and recoat with a surface texture of some kind (anything but smooth) and paint will run you about $2.50-3.50/SF.

Now the bad news - if asbestos containing, can run from $5-10/SF. Many homeowners in that situation go the other legal route - have it encapsulated with an asbestos-rated sealant by an asbestos contractor, then paint it and leave it for the next homeowner to decide what to do about it. Some contractors encapsulate it and then put a 1/4" thick drywall layer over it - this usually looks like a disaster unless it has a VERY rough textured finish on it, because putting drywall sheet over a rough surface like popcorn invariably means a wavy surface commonly looks like a gently rolling ocean surface.

It is challenging to write an unfavorable review. This is our first. If a review is too negative then it may not be considered reasonable and accurate. It might not be taken seriously. If a review is not negative enough then the message may be lost.
Declan
Branson Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
is personable but strictly business. He returned my first call to him within a few days. We arranged a time to meet but he never arrived, which he admittedly forgot. When we finally met several days later, he reviewed the project and he gave me a quote of $350.00 to plaster the bathroom walls, which was less than two other quotes I received. The blueboard was pre-installed with considerable care and it was properly secured in place. The walls were remarkably close to level and plumb in our ninety year old home. He was busy, as were other plasterers, but he was available within a week and I accepted his offer. It was an acceptance I regret.
He originally planned to arrive at 7:30AM but he rescheduled to 1:30PM and he arrived on time. He arrived with an assistant, who immediately covered the stairs, hallway and bathroom work area with drop cloths. After taping the blueboard seams, Declan started to plaster the bathroom walls and he finished the project in approximately two hours. During that two hour period, I overheard him talking on his cell phone on several occasions and, at one point, he met with an associate or friend in the street and he talked with him for several minutes as the veneer plaster started to set and

.
When the project was finished, I immediately noticed that a corner line was noticeably not straight. When I queried him, he suggested it was a result of an uneven surface, which is questionable and unlikely under the circumstances. In addition, the
Branson Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
where the walls meet the ceiling was noticeably uneven. I would describe it as "wavy." As we discussed the aforementioned, he said, "Most people wouldn't notice." I did and he should. Considering that response, I suggest that Declan may not apply himself in a way he would if more people noticed. He has been plastering for thirty-seven years. It may be that he just doesn't care anymore.
In retrospect, Declan was clearly in a hurry to compete the project. He admitted that he left a project to work on our bathroom and that he was returning to complete the first project. By his own admission, one reason he was in a hurry is because his assistant had a dentist appointment that afternoon. Declan and his assistant removed the drop cloths and cleaned the area.
After the veneer plaster dried in a few days, my wife and I noticed a multitude of imperfections in the walls and ceiling, which required considerable time to repair. It was necessary to painstakingly patch and sand those areas with joint compound. Compared to the work performed by a plasterer we hired several years ago to plaster the walls in another bathroom we renovated, we consider Declan
Branson Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
work as subpar. It is very unfortunate. The photographs I posted of the bathroom walls and ceiling he plastered were shot in black and white without a flash. This was done to provide the best rendition of the plastered surface and to accurately illustrate the staggering number of imperfections. It looked like the surface of the moon.
To reiterate, accepting Declan's offer to plaster our bathroom walls and ceiling was a mistake and one I regret. It was not a positive experience. My wife and I hope this review is helpful to other Angie's List members considering a plasterer in our area.

Owner

responded within a day to request for a quote to repair cracked seams in ceiling, and explained why re-doing seams was not likely to last long. Recommended covering old ceiling with new drywall, which we agreed was the best option. He and his crew of 3 arrived punctually on the agreed date of service, carefully covered carpeting, base of walls, and other surfaces, installed plastic sheeting over doorway, and had drywall installed and seams sealed within 2 1/2 hrs. Cleaned up work area before leaving. Returned following two days to add second and final coat of "mud" over seams. Expert workmanship, minimal dust. Crew was courteous and friendly. We were extremely pleased with the quality of the job and

would be first on our list for drywall work in the future.

Very efficient, worked quickly, and charged a fair price. Unfortunately, he stopped communicating when I repeatedly tried to reach him to provided additional services. I never again heard from him. As I said to him in my last communication, I understand not having time to provide services, but there is no excuse for not communicating. Very unprofessional....More />

We hired them after getting quotes from several contractors and DeckPro seemed like they were the most sound company. The one that would get it done and cause the least amount of issues. Boy were we wrong. A 2 day job ended up taking up MONTHS of our time trying to set things right.
When the crew came out, they unloaded all the wood and equipment and started working. I went down to double check the plans were correct with the guy in charge on site. The plans were not as I had specified or as
Branson Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
had quoted me for, the stairs were much narrower than I had asked for (they were just making them based on standard stair depth and I had specifically asked for and had been quoted for deeper stairs), so I had them make the changes to the plans while I was there and before they continued working.
After about 4 hours they packed up and went home for the day, which was the first thing that irked me. In the contract I was having to pay for 2 full days of labor because I was told that it would take that long to build the stairs. But yet, after 4 hours, they had all packed up and had left.
I went to take a look at their work and found that they had continued on with their original plans and had NOT taken into account the conversation I had with them earlier. The framing for the stairs were standard stairs, and not the custom depth I had asked/paid for. I called DeckPro and spoke to them about it. They apologized and said it would be fixed the next day. But instead, the following morning I had ONE person from the crew show up to my house to retrieve the tools they had left on site and then he left. When I spoke to DeckPro they said that the stairs were fine and that I was causing a fuss over nothing. I showed them the original contract signed by myself and
Branson Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
Sr showing the measurements that were agreed upon and then showed them pictures of the framework on site to show that they did not match. They never came out to the site to see it for themselves.
So now I was left with framework for the wrong size stairs, the rest of the decking wood in piles all over my back yard, and the off cuts and trash from the previous days work were everywhere. DeckPro refused to come back out and fix the stairs, or even finish them until I paid them the rest of the money. I had only paid $500 of the $1200 contract at this point. I finally told him to keep the $500, I'd keep the wood, and we'd call it even. I didn't even want them back after that. They agreed, but this was after several months of correspondence.
Please don't hire them, and if you do, do NOT pay much up front. Better yet, just don't hire them.

We couldn't be happier with the service we received from
Branson Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
. He returned our call promptly and came over to see the job right when he said he would. It was a small job but he accommodated us and the person who did the work was amazing. He was professional, friendly and very neat. When he finished we couldn't see any evidence that there had been a hole in the ceiling. The man was an artist! He left no mess for us to clean up. A great job from a company with great service. Thank you!

The crew showed up on time, did an excellent job separating the work rooms from the rest of the house and did an excellent job removing the popcorn material. The job took 2 days (1 day for removing popcorn ceiling & texturing, 2nd for painting). At end of 1st day, they made a pathway between Kitchen and master bedroom so we could still stay in the place and function. Crew was very professional and did quality work. Would recommend them anytime.

I can not recommend

and his team enough! They were punctual, professional, and easy to work with. We had bamboo floors in our condo refinished and stained. I was very nervous about how it would turn out but the floors look brand new!
Branson Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
also fixed the front entry doom jam that had been damaged as well as a damaged sliding door track. Again, the work was well-done and done quickly. The office manager,
