No damage to our property
Cost: Our final bill was 40% higher than the estimate. After a higher estimate than we wanted to pay, we rented a UHaul truck to do some of the work ourselves. We also sold some furniture that was included in the estimate. Despite our extra efforts, it still cost way more than they estimated.
When we inquired about the cost and the movers charging us an extra hour of work,
Speed: The movers were not exactly hustling. Often stopping to chit chat.
Messy: There was snow on the ground, and despite them laying rugs down all over, we were constantly sweeping/mopping/vacuuming up everywhere. Not what we needed during our move.
While loading stuff in new house, they didn't ask us where to put things. We ended up with heavy things in the wrong locations, so we had to move them up/downstairs ourselves.
The cardboard boxes they provide are in very poor condition. If this is one of your features for choosing
Lastly, do not trust the "Customer Lobby" reviews on their website. I tried to submit negative feedback and they rejected it. All they allow is positive reviews.
Upon arrival, our three man moving team introduced themselves to us. Then one of them dissapeared. I learned later that he was not feeling well. After vomiting on the neighbors lawn he proceeded to
The dispatcher told me it was no problem and they could make another trip back. After their 90 minute lunch the movers informed me that they wouldn't have time and it wasn't going to happen that night. I called dispatch, they told me it was going to happen. I told the guys, they said it wasn't going to happen. See a pattern here? Did our moving consultant step in? Not until 4:50 when the day was almost done, the movers were still moving, and we still had a load of stuff back at the house.
He said since we weren't in a hurry to get out, they could finish moving for us next week (at full cost plus a destination fee of $225). This was after the move already cost 44% over the initial estimate. They forgot our bedframe I had mentioned 3 times so they didn't even have that moved for us. At this point I was ready to part ways anyway. I told our sales guy I wanted $150 off of our total bill for the rental truck I would have to buy the next day and he refused. It was HORRIBLE. I called the manager on Monday and never heard back.
Please do us both a favor and never use
You have to pay by the pound for that (protection - or "insurance"). I'm not sure how all of that works out, but at almost $500 to start, I was certainly not looking to spend any more for a one bedroom apartment move! They should at least tell you that this is what's going to happen instead of springing it on you the day of the move.
End result, many of my pieces of furniture have scratches, dents, and other miscellaneous damage.
Also worth noting is that each box had where it was supposed to go written on the side in big black lettering on multiple sides of the box and most of them ended up in the wrong place even after they verified where I wanted them. Lugging them around myself to the correct location left me wondering why exactly I'd hired them in the first place...
I was very disappointed and felt backed into a corner by their last minute up the sales price tactic that I couldn't afford. I wouldn't recommend these movers to anyone.
