"We were stunned to see the how good our floors looked after the work was done (see the photos on our Yelp review). Our teak parquet floors were thin and fragile," but
and his crew worked with extreme care and attention to detail. They really know what they are doing. The previous property owner hired a BAD flooring company and regretted it. This other company stained the wood improperly and then resorted to covering up the beautiful teak with a dark
stain. We assumed that we were stuck with a black floor. However,
used a small sander in a closet to show how the
stain could be removed, without removing more than maybe a millimeter off of the delicate quarter-inch parquet tiles. He answered all of my questions and he understood and followed all of my special requirements for the job. The work was excellent and service was prompt and friendly. There are probably companies out there that will do a hardwood refinishing job for a cheaper rate, but my experience is that it pays to get a real expert like

"It's been a few months since the work was done, so I can't be as detailed in the review as I wish I could be. We had them come in for an estimate and"
was professional and explained the options and process well enough. He clearly explained the time (2 days), the process and how we needed to prepare (leave the house, etc.). They warned us on the smell and when it would be worst. We decided to go with the Street Shoe oil/water system over the traditional oil based polyurethane because we were doing this on stairs and didn't want them to be slippery. We had a budget in mind and the estimate came back at our budget, so we decided to give to it a go with them. We did not get quotes from any other provider. Overall was very pleased on the whole process. Most importantly, the floor and stairs look great. Couldn't be much happier with the results. They controlled the dust from sanding well enough. Had to wipe a few things down, but that is expected. No issues with that. The quality of sanding was good. The finish looks great and we are very pleased, especially on the stairs. They are not slippery at all and are much safer than when we had carpet on them. (Oh yeah, they also pulled up all the carpet and took out the staples.) The stain smelled strong, like they had warned and I did wear a
over my mouth to breathe (I was home during the process.) Not an issue, of course, but just FYI. Overall, I considered it a lot of bang for the buck.

Hardwood Flooring

Few home improvement choices add as much character and warmth — not to mention resale value — as hardwood flooring. But before hiring a flooring contractor to install or repair hardwood flooring, it’s important to know both its advantages and disadvantages.

Wood is a living, breathing product that contracts and expands as it releases and absorbs moisture. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Danica K. of Independence, Ohio)

Natural variations in your hardwood flooring reflect the time of year, as humidity levels rise and fall.

While there are still those who prefer the more traditional narrow planks, the wide plank trend is gaining momentum. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Bruce N. of New York)

What’s old is exciting and new as antiqued finishes and whitewashing techniques perk up wood flooring choices.

The finish you choose can provide the protection your floor needs, but it also should add something special to the appearance. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Ken M. of Albany, New York)

From the wall street journal online:

"Etiquette and tipping experts agree that tipping a contractor and his employees isn't expected because contractors offer to do a job for you at a specific price. Any extra money they would want would be built into their bid. Also, it's a business relationship rather than one where they are performing a personal service for you like a waiter or a maid. But if the employees do extra jobs around the house, then experts say it is appropriate to tip a cash amount equivalent to the task; "tip gifts" such as cookies and drinks can count. "The key to tipping is whether or not it was outside the scope of what was normally expected," says Mark Brenner, author of "Tipping for Success!"

My opinion is that a little bit of courtesy (snacks, drinks, expression of appreciation etc.) goes a long way and upon completion of their work you feel compelled by a job well done to offer a little extra in the form of a tip - go for it, but do not feel obligated.
?
Agreed.  If you have existing cracking in porcelain you need to know the cause first.  I don't know of any reputable contractor that would dare install tile over existing tile.  Also, any manufacturer warranties for defects would be null due to improper installation.  Did the contractor offer this solution or did you ask for it?  The mear fact that he is agreeing to or offering it tells me you need to leave this guy for someone who knows what they are talking about before he does only half the job which will have to be redone in the near future, costing you more in the long run.

I get so many calls from customers that were talked into a "cheaper" way to do something only to find the work very sub-par.  The sad part is they are out the money they spent in the first place along with the additional amount I have to charge just to undo what the first contractor did before I can do it right.  This floor could end up costing you double what it should if it's not done right.

DO NOT EVER LET THIS COMPANY INTO YOUR HOME!
The damage left by the painting company was not repaired and in fact the entire floor (foyer, dining room, and office) look worse after
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
worked on them. I can clearly see swirl
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
throughout the floor and clearly one coat of polyurethane was not enough. They also smeared polyurethane on the baseboards which now require repainting.
The quote given to the painting company was $900. $250 to move furniture and $650 to repair the floor.
The
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
Floor crew arrived by 9am and were gone by 10:15am on the same day.
1.)
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
arrived to move the furniture completely unprepared. The furniture was a china cabinet, buffet, table and chairs, desk, an entertainment center, and a grandfather clock. At times I had to help them lift the furniture but also provide them with five of my own household blankets so they could drag the furniture across my floor. Professional movers could have been hired for far less money. They also had the nerve to ask me if I needed help to move the furniture back into place when the work was finished. I assume that a $250 charge for about 25 minutes of work includes both moving and placing the furniture back into place.
2.) The crew buffed my floors and applied one coat of polyurethane. They told me that they would return on the following day to move the furniture back into place. I could clearly see that the damage was not fixed properly so I contacted the painting company to voice my displeasure with the quality of work provided by
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
.
3.) On the following day, I left work early to meet with both
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
and the painting company at 3pm.
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
did not show up and told the painting company that they were coming the following morning at 9am to move the furniture back into place. They did not address any of the quality complaints and clearly had no intentions to make things right. I left work early for no reason as they specifically told me to meet them at 3pm and they were a no show.
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
should be embarassed on many levels. Poor craftsmenship, poor customer service, and no desire to make things right. I am currently seeking quotes from other floor companies to repair the floor properly and I am considering seeking damages.

We purchased flooring through lumber liquidators and
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
did the installation. The owner came to do the measuring. He was prompt, polite and answered all of our installation questions. He provided a comprehensive quote with all the extras itemized, materials, transition pieces, molding, furniture moving and tear up of old flooring. His crew arrived promptly on the date of installation. There were 3 workers to move the furniture and tear up the old flooring and then 2 workers,

were terrific. They worked so hard and were pleasant and polite. We had a large amount of flooring installed and were probably not really prepared for what a wreck the house would be for the week, but
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
and
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
cleaned up all of it. They cut the flooring int he garage and cleaned up all the sawdust. We were very pleased with their work. The only issue we had was that the one additional guy who had been at our house at the beginning of the week helped himself to a bag of candy that was sitting on the kitchen counter and ate the whole thing. While it seems like a minor thing, we called the owner to let him know about it and did not receive a call back. We opted to let him know of the issue by e-mail, but a return call would have been nice. Other than that one

He started the job in October and the last day he was here was November 24, 2014. He was suppose to come back and finish the job which he never came back. Ruined the floors and had to have our house repainted and damages to the walls repaired. Cost us a $1,100.00 dollars. We have to hire someone else to come in and refinish the floors.

It took 3 days to dry my home which I thought was pretty quick, the repairs were excellent, but they took a few days longer then I was told which was not that big of a deal because it was only a few days and I know they were busy but compared to the other restoration companies, things happened quickly.
