"We had to basically move out of the house and move back in as we finished the flooring. It was a huge job and I have not called them out again. I think speaks really highly, especially" for this much flooring that we did and all the different types. I am just very pleased. The next house, if I have flooring needs, I will call them again. I did a price comparison and they were cheaper for the exact same product as another company was offering. So we went with them. All total for the tile, carpet and wood (the wood was throughout the first floor), was $22,000. They are very, very professional and have a woman there who is really part owner. She is also a designer and is not pretentious. She will help you and respects your taste, but yet she helps with color coordination and is a great resource. The installers were extremely professional and very, very good and gentle with my furniture. There were no mishaps, whatsoever.

"Our hardwood floors are 60 years old.
sanded them and refinished them. They are red oak so we did not have any stain applied. They turned out beautifully." In our case the boards were different shades which made the over all finish even better looking than we expected, old finish all looked the same shade.
works by himself and is very neat and never left any kind of mess during or after he was complete for the day. Very professional and knowledgeable about wood flooring.

Hardwood Flooring

There are few home improvement choices that add as much character and warmth — not to mention resale value — as hardwood flooring. But before hiring a flooring contractor to install or repair hardwood flooring, it’s important to know both its advantages and disadvantages.

From the wall street journal online:

"Etiquette and tipping experts agree that tipping a contractor and his employees isn't expected because contractors offer to do a job for you at a specific price. Any extra money they would want would be built into their bid. Also, it's a business relationship rather than one where they are performing a personal service for you like a waiter or a maid. But if the employees do extra jobs around the house, then experts say it is appropriate to tip a cash amount equivalent to the task; "tip gifts" such as cookies and drinks can count. "The key to tipping is whether or not it was outside the scope of what was normally expected," says Mark Brenner, author of "Tipping for Success!"

My opinion is that a little bit of courtesy (snacks, drinks, expression of appreciation etc.) goes a long way and upon completion of their work you feel compelled by a job well done to offer a little extra in the form of a tip - go for it, but do not feel obligated.

Agreed.  If you have existing cracking in porcelain you need to know the cause first.  I don't know of any reputable contractor that would dare install tile over existing tile.  Also, any manufacturer warranties for defects would be null due to improper installation.  Did the contractor offer this solution or did you ask for it?  The mear fact that he is agreeing to or offering it tells me you need to leave this guy for someone who knows what they are talking about before he does only half the job which will have to be redone in the near future, costing you more in the long run.

I get so many calls from customers that were talked into a "cheaper" way to do something only to find the work very sub-par.  The sad part is they are out the money they spent in the first place along with the additional amount I have to charge just to undo what the first contractor did before I can do it right.  This floor could end up costing you double what it should if it's not done right.

The service was fine. The professionalism of some of the employees could have been better. They did not clean up very well and they did put a hole in our drywall. They did a cut on the floor that was very noticeable and they did fix it after we brought it to their attention. Three to four guys came out and it took three days to complete the job.

Our other hardwood is no longer available. They came up with the idea to inlay a darker color where the old meets the new and fill the middle with an oak. Looks beautiful and very custom!

All the employees nd the owner went out of their way to accommodate our wishes. Wonderful people!

We called

The job was only done half way. It was sanded and then resealed but not stained. We had an appointment for them to come out and do this job at 8am and we were told it would be an all day job. Mr.
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
called at noon to say that his crew was eating lunch and they would be there shortly. They showed up at 2pm and were gone by 4pm. And in that two hours they quickly sanded 17 steps and risers, and took a 15 minute smoke break. I asked them why there were white spots on the stairs and why the coating wasn't shiny. I was told it was because the area dried first but in the end it would all look even. So we have white

where it should be OAK stain. We asked the company to come back out and redo it but we're told that they were only hired to do a $500.00 job and not a $1,200.00 job. We didn't hire this company personally but felt that we should have been treated with more respect then we were. We were treated like it was a bother for them. It would take days for Mr.
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
to respond to our request and when we called the original contractor who hired him to help us he blamed the floor guy, then the floor guy blamed the contractor for being cheap. He even said you get what you pay for. He had a, you'll take what I give you attitude. **Due to previous experiences with our small claims courts I have no faith in their good old boy court system. I have decided not to try to

this company, but I will not recommend them to anyone and I will not ever use them in my home again.**

We had difficulty communicating at times because he had some family issues that delayed him several days and then he was going back and forth between jobs trying to please everyone he had contracted with. In the end, it was well worth the wait. During the

for a contractor, two told me that
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
was the best between Chicago and St.

came out about a month before work started and provided an estimate to sand and finish ~1600sf of old 1917 era wood floors. He was on time and personable. We went ahead and scheduled
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
to sand and refinish our floors.
They refinished three upstairs bedrooms, three closets, and the hallway. Two bedrooms were covered with old tar from linoleum, and one was covered with white paint. The floors came out surprisingly well. The bedroom that was painted still has some white paint embedded in cracks, but that was expected.
The stairs leading from the first floor to the second floor were also sanded and refinished.
The main floor was oak that had been covered by carpet for years. It came out looking good, too.
We knocked one star off of responsiveness, since
Portland Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
did not follow up when the job was finished to let us know when we could enter the house. (The job was probably complete for a day or two before we emailed and asked.)
Overall, the floor refinishing job made the house ready enough for us to move in and continue renovations. We are happy with the results.

Floors look brand new now. Quoted cheapest AND quickest amongst everyone who provided an estimate. Also moved two pieces of heavy furniture and repaired two broken wood heating grates free of charge. Will definitely be using advantage again when we do upstairs.
