"A gentleman from Avalanche named
came to our home offering door to door free hail inspections. He inspected our roof and assured us that" there was enough hail damage to file a claim and offered to do some other roofing related things that would make our home more comfortable. We were so happy with his service that we referred him to a friend. He asked us to have our insurance company come out so that we could file a claim. He said he would like to meet with them to discuss the issues related to our roof. A day before the appointment with our insurance company he let us know he would be there. The inspection came and went and he never showed or called to reschedule. It turned out that there was very minimal hail damage and nothing worth filing an insurance claim over. Not only that, but he has never returned a single phone call to our friends. I believe this guy is going around trying to drum up business for himself where there clearly is no business necessary. I would watch out for any company that uses tactics like scaring customers into thinking their roof is damaged when it is not.

"I appreciate the honesty of the provider. He inspected my property and said there were no problems with my gutters that needed repair. He suggested I call Angie's" List back to request a refund, which I did. Because of that, I will certainly consider them for other services.

Wow, i aum surprised you didn't get 10 answers already with roofers say X was the best or N was the best or A was the best. In reality you are focusing on the WRONG THING!

5 estimates? Why 5? Why would you do that to yourself? Normally if you are dealing with reputable companies you don't need more than 2 estimates. I advocate to people to always get at least two estimates and if the roofers are saying something very different or if the roofers are way way way off in price, get an equalizer, get a 3rd.  Obviously if you don't trust a roofer disqualify that roofer immediately.  I beliee you have now fallen into "Analysis Paralysis" which is what happens when you have too many opions.

But back to the topic, I said you are focusing on the wrong thing. Why did I say that? Because you can take the best shingle in the world and if installed wrong is compeltely garbage. i can take the worst shingle, known to fail, and if installed properly will last some ammount of time. So you should focus on the roofer, not the product. The roofer is more important and a good quality roofer will only want to install good quality product.

The roof is a system comprised of many components, not just the shingles. You have the water proofing underlayment such as ice shield, the water resistant underlayments such as felt. You have the shingles, the ventilation and the flashing details. All of these things add up to equal one roof. Neglect one and your roof is doomed to fail.

But the roof is more than just product it is detail, know how and heart. Heart? yes heart. It takes the utmost CARING the utmost DESIRE to want to install a good roof. It's hard work and easy to fall into the train of thought as to do what's easier, instead of what's faster.  Faster and easier seldom ever equals better. At the end of the day you ened a roofer that cares about your roof.

So what product is best? That's hard to say. Each manufacturer has multiple plants and it seems each plant puts out varying levels of quality. I will tell you in my area Atlast is known as a cheap commodity shingle. I have Tamko Heritage on my house but I stopped using it because I was having seal failue issues and at the time they offered no contractor certification program, but I hear they started up one. Ownes corning is a decent product backed by a great company. I don't install very many OC's though. I primarily install CertainTeed Landmark shingles and my feeling is that they are the best on the market in my area. I'm sure others will disagree with me.

But don't miss the point, the roofer is more important than the shingle.

I appreciate the fact that with homeowners like you who want to beat the insurance co out of deductibles, so then my rates and every other homeowners rates can also go up just to save you.....Thanks for NOTHING..[8o|]

Any roofer worth using should be able to do the roof with NO MONEY DOWN.

The only scenario I would ask for a deposit is on a crazy odd ball shingle that had to be special ordered.

?
The question was, Can it be done? The answer is yes. The real question is "Should" it be done? The answer is, no, not unless it is an emergency.   But also let's clarify winter, because we are having a pretty mild winter, so there's kinda not a problem this year so far. I'll refrence "below freezing" from this point forward.

As a certified and licensed roofing contractor, my reputation is on the line. I debate this topic quite often with other roofing contractors who seem to care more about profit than a job well done.  Well, I can tell you from past experience having been a professional roofer for 14 years as of the time of this posting, that the chance for failure increases exponentionally when installed below freezing.  It's better just not to risk it.

Personally I will not, unless absolutely necessary and the customer signs a disclaimer of limited liability, install a roof below freezing and really really want to install the roof at 40 or above. The shingles need to seal, and will not seal unless they warm to about 70 degrees F ambient temprature. This does not mean it needs to be 70 outside, because the shingles will warm from the sun.

So what can be done to install the roof below freezing? Well first, the roof should not be gun nailed below freezing. This is because the shingles become brittle and it's easier to "blow through" with your nails. It's also harder to regulate air pressure when it is cold, I speculate because of barometric pressures, but I am just guessing.  Therefore the roof should be hand nailed. This takes more time. Furthermore since the seal strips will not seal, they must be manually sealed with proper compatible adhesives. This will also take more time, and more material. I once spoke with a roofer in Alaska who builds tents around the houses he is working on and covers them with tarps and heats with propane heaters.  Now that takes real time!    The question is, are you prepared to pay for this extra time? Can you wait a few more weeks?

I called late in the day and no one was available that day. They came out early the next morning in the rain and replaced the roof boots for the plumbing vent stacks. The installer did the work quickly and we haven't had a

The workmen were running a little late but completed the job on the day that it was scheduled. E & H roofing was the only company that was willing to help us during the time we needed to have the job completed. The job was done correctly and the cost was reasonable. If you need a company you can count on, E & H is the one for you.

We were buying a rental property and we had a home inspection done. When the home inspection revealed that the roof needed repairs we contacted several contractors to give us an estimate. I'm not sure what happened to the other two and since its been a while I don't even remember the roofing companies I contacted but what I did remember was that

from
Randolph Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was awesome. Not only did he come out and personally check the roof promptly, he explained to us that because much of it was hail damage, it was covered by insurance and that was a great relief because we knew the seller was very reluctant to pay for anything. But

spoke with him and helped him with his claim and we got a brand new roof!
Randolph Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was very helpful with helping us choose the roofing material and making sure that everything was done properly. We live thousands of miles away and we were not going to be able to see the finished roof until after we closed on the property so

and

came out quickly and reviewed what needed to be done. Estimate came quickly via email and included a list of all materials to be used. After we decided to move forward, they came out to detail what would be done. They are very friendly and included items above and beyond the roofing job such as removing and replacing gutters, replacing boards not related to the roof and removing a garage extension we had wanted taken down. We received pictures before and after each day which provided a detailed update. When a couple of surprises were encountered,
Randolph Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
contacted me with the situation along with alternatives and recommendations. The job finished on time and we are very happy with our new roof.

Crew was awesome, they got here at 8am and were done by 11:30am. Very professional and courteous. Very knowledgeable, I had asked some questions about whys and hows, and got educated answers.
Randolph Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
, the owner, was totally awesome!! He had come out in March to give me an estimate on the house and the garage roofs. I had called
Randolph Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
due to problems I was and still am, having with the contractor working on the exterior of the house and who was also suppose to do the roof. The work on the house is still not done and the house roof can't be done until the dormers on the house are done. BUT, in the meantime, the garage roof was leaking very badly. So I called

back to see if he could give me an estimate on just the garage. He came out with the estimate on

While home visiting my parents, some of the worst storms hit the area in the longest time. There roof took most of the impact of damage. I set up a few appointments with local roofing companies to get some estimates. With me only visiting for another week, I wanted to be there for the estimates. I explained to the companies that I called, my parents were elderly. They don't deal with stuff like that well and I wanted to be around to help. Only 2 companies understand the situation and agreed to come out ASAP. Out of the 2,
Randolph Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was the only one who actually came out. The gentleman I met with understood I was trying help my parents and squeezed me in between appointments to make sure I was able to be there for the estimate. After coming back home, the parents ended up getting 2 more estimates weeks later. Those estimates were comparable with
Randolph Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
. My parents said the other 2 companies were extremely pushy. I'm not going to bash them by putting there names on here but one tried to tell my parents on if they didn't sign and give a deposit that day it could be months before they could do the job. I don't go for the pushy sales tactics and neither does Dad. Following some research on the company and reading the reviews on here they ended up going with
Randolph Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
. They were rated really high and had great reviews. A manger came out to get the contract signed and take the deposit. He noticed my Marine Corps pictures and found out I was a Veteran. They ended up knocking a little more off the price and thanked my parents for my service. As you get older people tend to try to take advantage of you especially during times of need. I was worried someone would do this to them. Not the case here. The roof has since been installed and my parents said everything went better then expected. If there happy I'm happy.
