Hair Salon Reviews in Silver Spring

New to the area and had read some good reviews online (on Yelp.) I saw
an 'upper tier' stylist at the
who presumably is more experienced
and had been at the
longer -- named
. He listened,
was patient in explaining his idea for my hair, and was professional.
I liked him. (At the time I booked my appt., I was told that an upper tier stylist's prices were 'a bit higher.')
I have chin-length hair, so not very long. I had color done
& partial highlights (which came to $190.00 total) and the cut
(which was a minimal trim - not a style change, as I wanted to let
it grow) came to $70.00. I was pretty surprised/shocked when I was told
the total bill came to $260.00!
(This is not including a $24 shampoo product which was recommended, that I bought, and a 15% tip = $40.00 for the
stylist. ) When I left my bill was approximately $320.00. I was really shocked.
I accept full responsibility for not asking at the time of scheduling the exact price for each service being done.
Lesson learned. However, I definitely feel Alchemy's prices (regardless of someone being an 'upper tier
stylist' or not), are way too high. I cannot afford to return and therefore won't be going back.
itself was a decent, modern atmosphere. I was greeted at the front desk with a brusque almost
demand, "Who are you here to see?" I assume she may have been the
manager, I do not know. She was not very friendly or welcoming - it was not a good impression for my first visit. It was a busy Friday afternoon when I was there. It was packed with clients (a good sign) but loud. The music was turned up loud as well.
It was a nice shampoo experience w/ scalp massage.
My greatest complaint about the
experience was the price I paid.
Again, nothing against the stylist --I liked him. However, I feel
's prices are way too high.
We just returned from living overseas in Europe. I have visited some pretty pricey salons there and occasionally paid a lot for my hair, but I think this broke the record. Due to the price, very disappointed.

When I made my appointment, I explained that I have very thick, curly and frizzy hair, so they might want to allow more time for my appointment. They set me up with the owner. I arrived in plenty of time. After taking a look at my hair, she said she was unable (more like unwilling) to cut/style it and that it would take too much time . She seemed almost offended that I asked her to. Told me to come back in a few days when another stylist would be available and much better at handling difficult hair like mine. She then had the audacity to try and sell me $60 worth of products after telling me the one product I would need was $15. I bolted and never went back.

Hair Salon reviews in Silver Spring

The salon is small and run by wife Dode and husband

so there are only 2 customers at a time. They are relaxed and soft-spoken and friendly. No loud music. I sensed that the other customers had been long-time ones and coming for several years.

My appointment was at 10:30 and I arrived on time and Dode was ready.

friendly introductions she took me for a hair wash.
I had been nervous about the hair-cut as I have had some terrible hair-dressers. I had been cutting my own hair so it needed a good cut and styling. Also I have the problem of thinning hair on top.
But Dode was easy to talk to. She gave me a good cut but I asked for the back to be given more style and she worked on the back giving it a lift and then she gave it a blow-dry. I asked for more height on top and she responded by re-doing the front and gave me a very good haircut fand styling or which I received many compliments.
She was done in exactly an hour when her next customer arrived.
I was charged $65.00 and gave a $5.00 tip. I was very pleased with the service.

Let me first say that I've never seen anyone come out of Alchemy looking bad, no matter who cut their hair. No one. Ever.

I've been going to Alchemy for a few years now, having found them via assorted recommendations on the web during a

for a hairdresser who is good with long hair. I saw some warm, positive comments, and given their convenient location right next to the Trader

's on Colesville Rd, I decided to risk it. I get very nervous about hairdressers, especially when my hair is long.

The atmosphere felt good right away. They have out brewed tea, water with fruit slices, and European cookies to snack on while you wait in a very comfy leather sofa. My first visit, they assigned me to

, and I've been a delighted customer ever since. He really listened to my concern and goals - and he listens to MY HAIR. He reads it, and cuts it to free what it wants to see. Suddenly I have back the natural

I lost decades ago. And he cuts it so well that I can go longer between visits - which in a way is too bad, because my time with
Silver Spring Hair Salons Provider Name Locked
does feel like a visit.

After he looks at where my hair is each time, it's off to the shampoo chair. These are massaging shampoo chairs. Such a thoughtful choice for Alchemy to make. And speaking of massages, everyone who has ever washed my hair there has given me a wonderful scalp massage.

I rated Alchemy Excellent for price. That doesn't mean it's a cheap haircut. But you get your money's worth, both in the time spent on you (I'm usually there for an hour) and in the quality of the work. I really love what
Silver Spring Hair Salons Provider Name Locked
does with my hair. But should he ever leave Alchemy, I'm not worried about finding someone else there to take over from him.

On the recommendation of some friends, I made an appointment to see
Silver Spring Hair Salons Provider Name Locked
for 7 p.m. I went out of my way to get to the appt. on time after work and showed up 10 minutes early and was told that my name was not in the book. They said I would have to wait an hour if I wanted to see
Silver Spring Hair Salons Provider Name Locked
. I told them no thanks, and they didn't even apologize for the inconvenience.

I choose the half hour massage on my back. They have beautiful music during the massage. It is very relaxing.
Silver Spring Hair Salons Provider Name Locked
does these massages and she is fabulous. I would travel far to have her give me this massage. She is very knowledgeable and understands the physiology of the back. I've been there about once a month for the past three or four months. I will continue to this and I highly recommend this service to others.

I enjoyed going to this salon to get my hair cut. It was relaxing and the stylists were very good with communication, making sure their clients get the cut they desire. I was always satisfied with the end result of my cut. I would still use this salon, if it weren't for the long driving distance.

I have been getting my hair cut and highlighted at
Silver Spring Hair Salons Provider Name Locked
since they opened a couple years ago. They always do a wonderful job of dealing with my problem hair; it is very thick, curly, and starting to gray. My highlights always look just they way I want them. Sometimes that means a very natural look, while other times I may go for bright, bold color. My haircut is also just what I want: low maintenance and versatile. My stylist is

I've been to
