Business Description: Ade Furniture Company was founded by Gustav Dahlstrom in 1929. He and his wife, Ida, immigrated from Sweden to Boston in 1909. In 1922 he moved his family to Baltimore and found work in a piano factory. Seven years later in 1929 "The Great Depression" hit the country and the piano factory went out of business, as did many. Being hard to find work in those days, he started his own furniture refinishing and repair business and called it Ade Furniture Company. Just one story of many immigrants who came and still come to this country looking for an opportunity and a chance io make it. Today, who is Ade Furniture Company? Me, Alan Dahlstrom, grandson of Gustav Dahlstrom. I was first introduced to the furniture business when I was sixteen years old. I worked with Pop in his shop for years learning from a master craftsman from the old country. I had a rare oppurtunity to work not only with a true craftsman, but I experienced the old-fasioned work ethic of a person from another era. Grandpop, like my dad, his son, was a man of integrity and his word. They left an impression on me that has served me and the business well through the years. My other teacher was the U.S. Marine Corps., but that's another story. Now, I still own and operate the business as a sole proprietorship refinishing, repairing and restoring new and antique furniture.
