"We requested a 15 yard size bin for one week and filled it with almost 3 years of accumulated yard waste (we have a 1/2 acre) and even had a room for our neighbors" pile of yard waste! In 2013 we ordered a 20yd sized bin from
and were so pleased with their service we called on them again. Their website shows pictures of the different sized bins to help you decide what you need to tackle your job. Our bin was delivered and picked up promptly. It was clean and in great shape - inside and out. They were careful to place the bin where we wanted it, laid down wood railings to protect our driveway, cleaned up after the bin was picked up to assure the driveway was in the same condition it was in when the bin was delivered. We will definitely use their service again.

I second the original question (still unanswered). Speaking as someone who logged in today to try to find an attorney, I see this category as one that's exactly what I have my Angie's List membership for:

1. It's important that I find a good one
2. I'm not an expert enough to know myself who is a good one
3. The industry is full of advertisements and misinformation
4. I wish I knew what experiences other people have had

?
I don't care about lawns--I planted mine in clover and don't have to mow it. When I do need to mow I use a rotary Fiskars mower, which is great--or a scythe. That's right--a scythe (the European type, which is smaller, and it's very good exercise). Gas-powered mowers, chemical fertilizers and weed killers--all nasty stuff that gets into everyone's air, soil, and water. I'm sure my neighbor doesn't like my wildflowers, semi-wild pockets of fruit bushes, and unmown areas and yes, dandelions (I have 10 acres) but that's too bad. It's better habitat for wildlife, especially the pollinators on which our food supply depends. I think this obsession with the Great American Lawn is a waste of time and resources. Plant some food instead.

?
I'm not sure Angie et. al. want you to have a complete answer to this question. By re-subscribing at the Indiana State Fair in 2012, I think I paid $20.00 per year for a multi- year subscription. Maybe even less. At the other extreme--and I hope my memory isn't faulty about this--I think the price, for my area, for ONE year was an outrageous $70.00. And they debited me automatically without warning. I had to opt out of that automatic charge. I like Angie's List, but if some of the companies they monitor behaved the way they do in this respect, they'd be on some sort of Pages of Unhappiness. I'll be interested to see if this comment gets published or censored out of existence.

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.

You have to put your self in the shoes of a business that is in business to turn a profit of some sort. All businesses have different overhead which in turn decides what their bottom line would be on their services. I personally would not go with an unlicensed professional for this type of install. You are messing with gas, venting issues, electrical wiring{electric water heater} and updated code issues such as a drain pan and tempature and relief drain lines for heaters that currently do not have them. I do agree that there are some companies that are way out of line for their installs but most of these companies are the really big companies that have very high overheads  I would assume. Tank type water heaters have changed over the last several years and with these safety changes come bigger prices. The price of steel thanks to China is skyrocketing and tank type water heaters are made of steel. Most wholesale plumbing supply companies cannot match what the big box stores are selling at retail to consumers. I happen to think from research that heaters such as Rheem, Bradford White and AOSmith who have been in business forever make a better product than what you can buy in the big box outlets. You also have to take in consideration the location of the water heater that is being replaced. Is it in the house, basement, garage or attic. Most 40 and 50 gallon water heaters that are purchased in a plumbing wholesale store in Texas cost between 300-340 for a 6 year warranty heater with 6 year on parts and tank. Speaking of warranty. Most big box companies will take a least 24 hours to a week to get your warranty problem taken care of. Most reputable plumbing companies will give same day service if they installed the heater.

So lets break down a typical install at cost to a licensed plumber in Texas

Heater: $315, water shut off $6.50, water flex lines or unions to code $20, gas flex line and cut off to code $12, misc fittings $15, Total $368.50 Lets add a 35% profit which is some what low  for a business $129, Total 497.50

This doesnt  include permits, pan and drain or any venting issues. The vent must go from the heater to the outside of roof using double wall vent.

Cost of permit on average $60

Most plumbing companies allow for 3 hours of time for a water heater. This includes picking the new one up. Delivering out to house. Draining and removing old water heater. Hauling off old heater. Installing new heater up to code. Going down to city and pulling permit.

Average Labor charges for heater installs $400

That would make this install run without extras on any code issues $957.50

I just had a 50 gallon gas water heater installed in my house for $1200 but I needed a pan installed. I used a licensed plumber.

Todd said it best.

An itemized list / cost breakdown, more often than not is used against the contractor when it is shared with other builders who will then beat it.

Good contractors use good people, and good people cost more.  Just the cost of having the appropriate insurance / bond can be the difference between winning a job or losing it ot a 'lower bid'.

It is the rule of three; there is Good, Cheap and Fast.  You can have any two:  Good and Cheap, won't be Fast; Good and Fast, won't be Cheap;  Cheap and Fast, won't be Good!

When comparing bids, it isn't the cheapest or the 'nicest' person you should select.   You should understand why there is a large price difference (it shows there are gaps in your design program or what you have asked for specifically, which means there may be arguments later).  If most of the bids are in line, and one is way high or way low,  you want to know why before dismissing or selecting them.

A price-only decision almost always costs more in the long run.

Good luck!

We love them. They are great. We use them pretty much every week. I talk to them directly. They are great, no problems. I use the same size of dumpster all the time which is a 40 yard dumpster and it’s $475 for a four yard dumpster, delivered and removed. I call them and they come and get it. They are great people to work with.

They delivered on time and my husband was impressed at how clean the dumpster was and the color purple. When we finished filling the dumpster, placed a call and they removed it the next business day. I had called around other dumpster rentals where I received quotes of $450 for the same size dumpster.
They are prompt, courteous, and professional. We will definitely be using them sometime next spring.

Dumpster was dropped off on about 8/18. The truck dropped a ton of oil on my driveway and didn't say a word about it. I tried to clean it off to the best of my ability but I've now got permanent oil stains on my driveway. Dumpster was scheduled to be removed on 8/25 and at 4:20PM I phoned them because it hadn't been picked up. I was told that due to vehicle problems (maybe it was a bad oil leak?) they were behind but I was assured that it would be removed with an hour. I phoned them and left voicemails all evening long about getting this thing out of here. The next morning it still hadn't been picked up. I phoned them again and they told me the driver was dispatched to get it first thing.

They were suppose to deliver a dumpster with the understanding that I only had a 1 day window to have dumpster. They agreed to terms and then on the day never showed up. I called at 9am asking where the dumpster was as I can a work crew ready to load it. At that time the receptionist said she would speak with dispatcher and call me back. She did not call me back until 11am to let me know the dumpster wouldn't be delivered until the next day. Didn't need it the next day. I needed it the day I originally booked.

The first two pick-ups and deliveries were fine other than their receptionist being difficult. The third dumpster was picked up way too late and the receptionist was even more difficult to deal with. We had some leaking of the first two but we were able to get the stains out right away. We became very aware of the minor stain possibility so we watched the rain forecast. With rain in the near forecast we asked that the third dumpster that we rushed to fill be picked up ASAP. It took 5-6 days before they came. The receptionist was even more rude when we called to see when they were coming. Meanwhile it rained a great deal and the driveway was stained a very dark rust color in a 6 foot square area. When Source picked up the dumpster hundreds of gallons of rusty water poured out of the back and stained a huge area of concrete driveway which is only a couple of years old. We contacted Source and they refused to do anything to help saying that it was not their fault. We have tried virtually everything to remove the state to no avail.

Arrow was great to work with. We needed a few extra days on the rental and they were completely flexible. Arrow offers great service at a very good price.

we've rented twice from
Frederick Dumpster Rentals Provider Name Locked
in the past 3 years. Both times, they delivered on the same day that we placed the order. We also needed to extend our rental by a few days to finish cleaning our garage and they were very flexible regarding the pick up date. I would highly recommend this provider.

Didn't see the company drop off or pick up the dumpsters, but the dumpsters were there on the days they said they would be and were gone when they said they would be.
Rented 20 ($369) cu. yd. and 10 ($284) cu. yd. dumpsters for 10 days each. Placed wood under rollers to distribute load. Priced as quoted.
