"The owner
climbed the trees and did all cutting. The large sycamore hanging over the garage was a mess. We asked that they cut all limbs from the garage roof" up approx 20 ft or so.
went up 40 ft as he told us that's how he would want it done if it was his tree. All brush was raked and shredded. Bigger logs were stacked neatly by our fence. We are very satisfied with their work/price and will use again.

Hiring to trim trees? A how-to guide

Follow these tips to find a tree service that will clip with care and leave you with dollars for the rest of your landscape.

Tree Care and Services

Trees grow slowly so you can't afford to make a mistake by planting them in the wrong location or overlooking something that puts the tree at risk. Tree care is something most homeowners can do on their own, but an expert should be called if a tree is showing signs of disease or if limbs need to be removed.

Tree Service

If a tree on your property requires a professional tree-removal service, use the following factors to help estimate how much you should expect to pay before workers start revving up their chainsaws.

Angie's Answers

I would strongly suggest sending your neighbors a certified letter stating that, per your earlier conversation, you consider this tree to be a hazard due to its proximity to the power lines.  Then, when and if something bad does happen, you will have a record of having informed them of it and they won't be able to say "we didn't know."

You say the county has told you it is the neighbor's problem.  Did you contact the local electric company?  They should care very much about the situation.

I would also recommend taking lots of pictures showing the proximity of the tree to the wires and that it is obviously dead.

Dead trees do sometimes stay vertical for a very long time, but it sounds like a tense situation for you.  I understand your desire to not inflame the situation, but it doesn't sound like there is anything more you can do that won't have the potential to do so.  So it becomes your responsibility to look after your own interests in the most reasonable way possible.

For my money, never ? I do a walk-around yearly in the summer (when easy to work on and before the heavy fall winds in our area) and look for trees with dead crowns, losing branches everywhere but at the crown, brown branches (evergreens) or leafless branches, leaning trees, trees with visible rot, trees with major bark loss, trees with seriously damaged or eroded away roots, etc. If none of those symptoms, then I call our 100 or so trees good for the year.

Of course, the bigger the trees and the likelihood of house damageor powerline loss (especially in winter) if there is a major branch or tree fall comes into play also. I trim and cut my own trees when needed regardless of size, so my level of confidence in being able to handle anything comes into it.

If you are worried about one or more trees, call an arborist to check them out - then I would say unless there is evidence of damage - ESPECIALLY leaning trees or major branches not leafing like the rest of the tree - I would not worry having them looked at more frequently than every 10 years or so.

Tree Service reviews in Springfield

I couldn't be there for the work, nor estimate. They made it easy to work with over the phone. The day of the work I showed up a couple hours later and they were there with a large crew working way. I was impressed at the large team they had onsite, and the efficiency with which they worked.
Initially I was nervous that they had taken off too much from the top of the tree, but they called their manager and I spoke with him and he explained that what they are doing is normal and it will come in beautifully in the spring. He said not to worry that it looks too bare, and to trust him that it will beautiful.
I was satisfied with this discussion, and look forward to it filling in nicely in the spring. It was becoming too large in front of my townhome, starting to block the stairs to the entrance, and encroaching on the neighbors driveway space.
They initially quoted $700, which was $500 for topping/shaping, and $200 for large branch removal. This was competitive with 10 other bids, right in the middle of the other quotes.
However, they gave me a $200 Angie's List discount, bringing the total to $500 for all work, which was the BEST price of the 10 quotes I received.
I would use them again.

I requested prior notice of work performance to ensure someone would be here - and I did receive notice. A five person crew showed up as promised, with new or modern equipment. All equipment worked as designed (including the 15inch tree circumference wood chipper - very impressive!). Stump grinder was very large and easily handled the job. The crane with personnel bucket sped up the process considerably and made for safer work practices as well as less

of damage to cabin. The workers were very courteous, always kept busy - either performing cleanup of area, removing brush or hauling logs - very efficient use of manpower. Absolutely no damage to house or surrounding area with exception of one small plant in landscape area. This small plant was replaced within the hour of notification - very satisfied with replacement, I sort of expected more damage to these plants due to location/proximity to trees being removed. Respectful of single roadway and neighbors passage/throughway. I will be hiring this company again in the spring for another VERY large tree removal. Company owner was available by phone and was at worksite several times during work performance period including a Sunday check-up.

It took a day after my Angie's List request to actually talk to
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
's owner,
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
Brown, because his cellphone voice box was full - must be in demand! - but once we made contact the following day, he arranged to come out that afternoon to give an estimate. He priced each tree according to size and difficulty to take down. On average, it came to about $300 per tree. The dead photinia was $50 and he threw in the pruning of the photinia next to the house for free. The total bill was $2,235.00.
The date to take down the trees was set for two business days after the day of the estimate with the caveat that if it rained the day before, the date would have to be postponed until the next available dry day. As luck would have it, we received rain during the night. Mr.
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
called the next morning to postpone. The following day, he and his crew arrived right at the designated time with all the equipment and trucks you could imagine: a bucket truck, a truck with a log loader, a truck to haul the cut lumber, etc. The crew numbered 6-8. All were very courteous and got straight to work. There was no dilly-dallying around.
Once the cutting began, I headed in to work. When I stopped by the house just before lunch, most of the trees were already down, and men were hauling large logs to the trucks at the street. Work finished up about mid-afternoon. When I arrived home after work, the yard was cleaned up, and all cuttings were hauled off. The trunks were cut as flush to the ground as possible. There is nothing for me to do except admire their handiwork and get used to not having limbs fall every time a rain storm passes through!
I've had trees of similar or larger size and number cut down on other properties. One tree service was absolutely terrible, the other a complete opposite: fast, professional with no damage or trash left behind whatsoever.
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
is very much like the latter with probably better pricing. I have kept
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
's business card to share with friends and use myself if ever needed in the future.
By the way, many tree services out there are fly-by-night or ill-managed. Broken Tree Tree Service has been in business over 25 years and is licensed and insured. Based on my experience with the company, I have no qualms recommending them to others. Thanks,

From the moment that they noiselessly arrived with trucks and equipment to their quiet departure,
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
was very professional, efficient, personable, and extremely respectful of my property and landscaping. The crew's leader effectively communicated the job to his team, and any questions/suggestions were immediately brought to the homeowner's attention and resolved. I had specifically stated in the contract not to drop the dead gum tree, and the crew diligently roped each piece and caught it before it dropped. Scheduling of the job was as promised. My neighbors were also impressed with this tree service. This is the first time that I used
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
which I found on Angie's List. I would definitely recommend and use

This was the third time I have used Kinginer. As usual, the job itsef was very well done (see below) and a great value for the money. This time, though communication was lacking.

Re communication, I had to call twice to receive my written estimate after making a verbal agreement with
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
, one of the estimators. After the second call, I got an email from
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
, the other estimator, with the document attached. I sent
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
three pictures of the branch, each with the cut line photoshopped in. (
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
had been working from memory of a previous estimate during our phone conversation.) I signed and faxed the document back about five minutes after receipt. Ten days later, I had still not gotten acknowledgement of the fax or any schedule committment. After another call, I got acknowledgement of the fax. A few days later, I got the expected call with a work date. Normally, I do not bother to "chase" contractors who do not respond. I simply terminate the business relationship. In this case, however, I had had excellent service in the past.

The job itself went very well and quickly. The workers demonstrated skill and experience. A couple of cut pieces touched the wires, but did no damage. The location was very challenging with regard to wires, thorny bushes, and a fence. They cleaned up after themselves right down to blowing the sawdust off the sidewalk. They even removed the parking notices I had put on two utiltiy poles.

Overall, I am pleased, but do wish the office would get its act back together.
- Raymond T.

They started working within an hour of reviewing what had to be done. The worked quickly and did an outstanding job of shaping the trees just the way we wanted them to look. All debris was removed and we are extremely happy with every aspect of their response and work performed. An excellent service provider for Angies List.
- Evonne G.

The owner,
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
, did an outstanding job. This is the 2nd time we've used him and each time he did a thorough job. They completely clean us the tee debris. Especially great is the fact that
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
is a Certified Arborist and looks each tree over completely and then proceeds branch by branch, studying the structure before trimming the next branch. We asked that he thin out the
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
which turned out beautiful. The
Springfield Tree Services Provider Name Locked
was getting top heavy again and had too many low branches. He brought the tree to our desired ground clearance and thinned it out. Both trees look great.
