"I purcahsed on "online special" from angie's list from vendor. Then spent 2 weeks playing phone tag with vendor trying to schedule - only to find" out that they are inflexible about when they would be "in my area" to perform service. "In my area" was so restrictive i had to cancel. Getting my refund wasn't easy either.

If the ducts are venting through a window I'm assuming the duct work is all easily accessible.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell a cleaning kit that uses an electric drill to spin the brush as it goes through the ductwork.  I've found it to work quite well and you can do it yourself.  It may take a few passes the first time to get everything out if it has been a while since it was last cleaned.  Just make sure you get all of the loose lint out after running the brush through from both ends and you're good to go.  Please note that if the line is not hard but rather a flex duct line you can easily puncture a whole in it with this kit and will do better to clean it by hand.

As stated above, it can vary between companies.

Typically just an inspection implies you do not have a contract or agreement that may include discounts or free repairs.

With our company you would get the annual maintenace service that you should do every year, and if repairs are needed, they are extra, but you aviod paying a "service call charge" that would be related to most repairs, because you are paying for the "inspection" and we are already on site.

Inspections are often discounted in the slow seasons, and can usually be found advertised , at reduced prices , on Angie's List.

So consider Angie's List and find the best of the best in HVAC contractors!

Since you asked this question over a year ago, I'm pretty sure you've already made your decision but I'd like to offer you some advice.  You mentioned your husband vacuumed the coils and it worked for a couple more weeks.  Chances are the condenser coils were very dirty when he did this.  When refrigerator condenser coils are dirty, the compressor overheats and heat will cause a compressor to fail prematurely.  You should vacuum or blow out your condenser coils regularly.  Today's refrigerator compressors are not made to last like they were in the past.  I remember when it wasn't unusual for a compressor to last 30 years.  You won't see that happen with the way refrigerator compressors are made today.  Regular cleaning of your condenser coils is crucial in preventing premature failure of your compressor.  For more tips, check out my article here on Angie's list titled "How To Avoid Appliance Repairs"

Appliance Repair reviews in Springfield

I was very disappointed and frustrated and still have a broken ice maker. I will have to try and find a new repair person - who will hopefully be able to communicate and fix the problem.
I have never had a negative experience like this from anyone I have gotten on Angie's list and that is really why I use Angie's List so much.

Contractor was responsive to my call for service I needed to repair a washing machine that was stopping at the rinse cycle and leaving the clothes wet. He was very flexible in coming on my day off and was punctual and professional. We discussed the problem and he went to work diagnosing and according to him fixed the problem. He felt he'd solved the problem and asked me to let him know how things went after using the washer. I used the washer the next day and it wasn't working, same problem. I called the contractor again to let him know. As we spoke I could feel he didn't have a clue what the problem was but he said he would come out that day again. He showed up and stayed for about an hour trying to figure out the problem but couldn't fix it. He said perhaps it was the motor and it would run about $300 for the part alone, as an estimate. I knew in my gut that he was still unsure about the problem so I decided to call it a day and buy a new washer. To sum things up, the contractor was friendly and professional but not knowledgeable about such repairs. I totally counted on the positive reviews I'd read about this contractor so I found this very disappointing having wasted timed and money paying for the service call and nothing was accomplished and the washer not repaired.

Originally called and scheduled a visit which was handled as expected: The online representative scheduled a visit with an estimated time frame, we got an email the night before confirming the appointment, and the tech called the next morning with a definite time and showed up on time. He diagnosed the problem, ordered the parts, and scheduled a follow up visit 2 weeks later.
The parts arrived within 3 days.
This is how it is supposed to work.
I took the day off work for the follow up appointment. As instructed I cleaned out the refrig the night before and stored the food on ice. I did get an email the night before confirming the appointment at 8am to noon. However, I did not get a call from the tech. I called at 10:30 to ask why I had not been called and was told that that my appointment was confirmed and the tech will call by noon . At 12:30 I called again and was told that no tech had been assigned. I asked to talk to a supervisor who reviewed the case and said that the tech called in sick. She could not explain why I had not been informed of this. I sent an email to "the home office" and was told the same thing with no explanation for the lack of communication. I was rescheduled for 2 weeks later.
For this third appointment I did not get an email confirmation. I called the night before was was told that my appointment was confirmed for 8-12 and that I could call at 7am to talk to the tech for a definite time. I called at 7:30am and was told that the tech would call but he did not. I called about every hour thereafter and each time I was told the same thing -- my appointment was confirmed, the tech will call, but never did. On one call the expected time was changed to 10:30 to 12:30. The tech eventually arrived at 12:45 and right after parking in front of my house he then called.
The work then proceeded well and the complicated refrig repair was completed satisfactorily.
I then found out from the tech that I was his second job of the day and that he was scheduled for two more visits that day for compressor replacements. This seems to me to be over booking.
So the actual repair was satisfactory but the scheduling was horrible.
I will not use

left message. call returned promptly by
Springfield Appliance Repair Services Provider Name Locked
. appointment made for following day. He was a little late, but called to let me know.
he diagnosed the problem and brought the part back today and replaced it.
He was very efficient. He cleaned up during and after the job.
A bit spendy, but the largest portion of the bill was the part.
I think the labor was very reasonable.
I will definitely call them again when I need appliance repair or installation

My dishwasher door cable began to screech whenever I opened or closed it. I called to have it replaced on Sept. 25 and was told that the manager, Rich, would need to research it, and then they would need to order the parts and would call me when they were available. It took a week. I was called on Friday, Oct 2 and told the parts were in and they would come on Monday, Oct 5 to do the installation. The technician,
Springfield Appliance Repair Services Provider Name Locked
, arrived at my house around 4 on Oct 5. He was instantly rude and overbearing! He opened the dishwasher door and said, " It is not the cable. It needs to be oiled." I said, "That is not what Rich had told me when the parts were ordered. " He said, " Rich could not have diagnosed the problem without coming to my house. And if I wanted him to oil it, he would pull it out and do that and it would be $80 more than the quote I had on the phone." I was stunned! This technician was truly scary! When I said I wanted the cable replaced, he said he didn't have it and if I didn't want the dishwasher oiled, he could just leave and there wouldn't be a service charge." I said, "Leave." And, thank goodness, he did! I immediately called and complained about
Springfield Appliance Repair Services Provider Name Locked
to the company's receptionist. No customer should ever be treated like this. And because it is inside the customer's home, it is even worse! Shortly afterwards, the manager, Rich, called to apologize and said he would send another manager named
Springfield Appliance Repair Services Provider Name Locked
out the next day to see what could be done. I was very nervous about seeing another person from this co. But
Springfield Appliance Repair Services Provider Name Locked
did come and he immediately said he had the cable assembly and would install it. He was professional and fixed the door. I believe that this company really needs to find out what is going on with
Springfield Appliance Repair Services Provider Name Locked
. He is angry and very unprofessional. I have never encountered a service technician with this kind of aggressive and confrontational attitude.

told me that
