"It went great. He arrived on time on the date scheduled and completed the job in half a day. He cleaned up beautifully. I gave him a B for responsiveness because he was supposed" to call me back on a Friday afternoon to schedule an estimate but didn't. When he called me back the following Monday he said he was in "weekend mode." He charged me $725 for the tree removal and $600 to grind the stumps. All is well and I'm very pleased.

"They did a very good job. The bid was clear and thoughtful. The work was done very well, as was clean up. The small trees were crammed into tight spots so they easily could have damaged" my neighbor's fence or drive but they didn't.

always had his people here working to meet deadlines that had been set. The spring of 2013 was an exceptionally wet spring but
knew" that we were planning a big function that would require the use of deck, outdoor kitchen and patio and he had his people here working rain or shine and believe me there was plenty of rain. We never thought he would complete on schedule but he did, AMAZING! We are especially pleased with the outdoor kitchen area which
designed and constructed for us. Our deck, patio and kitchen is almost like having an additional room on our house. We love it. If I ever need a project like this again
's would be my first call.

Hiring to trim trees? A how-to guide

Follow these tips to find a tree service that will clip with care and leave you with dollars for the rest of your landscape.

Tree Care and Services

Trees grow slowly so you can't afford to make a mistake by planting them in the wrong location or overlooking something that puts the tree at risk. Tree care is something most homeowners can do on their own, but an expert should be called if a tree is showing signs of disease or if limbs need to be removed.

Tree Service

If a tree on your property requires a professional tree-removal service, use the following factors to help estimate how much you should expect to pay before workers start revving up their chainsaws.

Angie's Answers

I would strongly suggest sending your neighbors a certified letter stating that, per your earlier conversation, you consider this tree to be a hazard due to its proximity to the power lines.  Then, when and if something bad does happen, you will have a record of having informed them of it and they won't be able to say "we didn't know."

You say the county has told you it is the neighbor's problem.  Did you contact the local electric company?  They should care very much about the situation.

I would also recommend taking lots of pictures showing the proximity of the tree to the wires and that it is obviously dead.

Dead trees do sometimes stay vertical for a very long time, but it sounds like a tense situation for you.  I understand your desire to not inflame the situation, but it doesn't sound like there is anything more you can do that won't have the potential to do so.  So it becomes your responsibility to look after your own interests in the most reasonable way possible.

For my money, never ? I do a walk-around yearly in the summer (when easy to work on and before the heavy fall winds in our area) and look for trees with dead crowns, losing branches everywhere but at the crown, brown branches (evergreens) or leafless branches, leaning trees, trees with visible rot, trees with major bark loss, trees with seriously damaged or eroded away roots, etc. If none of those symptoms, then I call our 100 or so trees good for the year.

Of course, the bigger the trees and the likelihood of house damageor powerline loss (especially in winter) if there is a major branch or tree fall comes into play also. I trim and cut my own trees when needed regardless of size, so my level of confidence in being able to handle anything comes into it.

If you are worried about one or more trees, call an arborist to check them out - then I would say unless there is evidence of damage - ESPECIALLY leaning trees or major branches not leafing like the rest of the tree - I would not worry having them looked at more frequently than every 10 years or so.

's are very prompt. They were at my house within hours of calling to talk about what I wanted done & by the end of the day I had an estimate emailed to me. I called a few other companies and after receiving bad, or no service, from them I decided to use

's. The estimate ($2,303) was higher then I had budgeted for ($2,000), but they had a coupon that brought it down a little ($2,103). I asked if there was any way to do it for $2,000, but they said the price with the coupon was fair. And it was, so I decided to use them. Less then two weeks after signing the estimate & paying the deposit, they were at my house & had the work done in a few hours.
The landscaping looks a

better then it did. They took the time to explain to me how to care for the new bushes & shrubs. I think they could have a better job cleaning out the plant beds though. I had a lot of weeds in them and a couple days after the work was done I already had some popping up through the mulch which I don't think should of happened that soon.
Overall they were quick, reasonably priced & did a good job. Would use them again in the future.

We needed two trees removed (from our neighbor's property) that were a potential hazard to our house, one being diseased & the other leaning over our roof. I called on Tuesday evening,

came to assess the situation the following day, and work commenced on Monday. I have used other tree services in the past, and no one has come close to the professional, knowledgeable, and courteous qualities of both Mr. Pearsen and his employees. He delivers what he promises, and the clean up that was done after all their hard work was equally superb. Thank you for a job well done! In this economy when every dollar counts,we highly recommend

Regal was very quick with providing me with a reasonably priced quote to remove a few trees. I will use them in the spring once I can plant grass in he spot of the trees.

I was very impressed with

. Our very large, 50 year-old, 4-

ash tree was dying because of emerald ash-borers, so it needed to come down. The tree was very close to the front of the house, and towered over it. I got three prices, and

was the lowest. (They also gave me an Angie's list discount.) I looked over the contract carefully to be sure that their low price didn't mean less service. Everything seemed OK so I gave them the go-ahead.
They gave me a date of Sept 18 at 11:00, and by 10:15 the crew was on-site and working. They didn't need a crane, but came with an impressive array of equipment, including large truck, heavy-duty chipper and a nifty remote-controlled AWD stump grinding machine. The crew leader was friendly and easy to work with. I kept the wood to split and burn in my wood

, and they piled the rounds where I asked them to. I had taken down a small tree in back of the house and they ground the stump at no additional charge.
They cleaned the area up well, removed the brush, and caused no damage to the grounds or house. The tree yielded 3 cords of firewood, to give you an idea of its size.

gave me a great price, and did a thorough and professional job. I will absolutely call them again next time I need tree work.

was doing work down the street from us. I asked for a quote for removing one tree and all the debris, and for cutting down 3 other dead pines and stacking the wood. No stump removal was involved. They were able to do it that same afternoon. When asked to remove all debris from the foot of the driveway by 4pm so guests could get in the driveway they did it quickly :)
All debris was cleaned from the driveway and work areas.
