"The book keeper who ansered the phone initially was polite. I asked to speak with one of the male workers because I had some questions. She tried to answer my question, by asking the" workers for me, but I had other questions I needed answered. She put me on hold, and never picked back up. I called back, and she immediately put me on hold again without even asking me to hold. So I called back a third time, and as soon as she answered, she put me right back on hold. No one ever picked the line back up while I waited. My grades are based solely off of my experience speaking with the book keeper.

"I am really ambivalent about the work. First off, a big plus for
is that they actively sought my business. They made an appointment to go over what I wanted" done within a few days of my email, sent the estimate when they said they would, and kept me informed when the projected work date had to slide because of several days of rain. It's unbelievable how many Des Moines landscapers do not bother to respond to inquiries, or send estimates after they've come out to see the lot. On the day they came, the crew called my work number instead of my cell, and I missed the call because I was in a meeting. By the time I got the voicemail and got home, they'd been working an hour or so and had about 8' of the concrete edging pounded into place, and about another 15' of the trench for the edging dug. The edging was aligned with the back
of the walk to my front steps, while I'd told the salesperson that I wanted it aligned with the front
, so the mail carrier could walk on the river rock in front of the plantings instead of killing the grass. I should have been a customer from h*** and made them rip it out and move it up that 2', but I didn't. Along with the estimate,
also sent a plot diagram showing what plants were going to be used in front of the house, and their placement. They also included a Photoshopped photo of the house with what the planting would like when mature. So I didn't go over the planting placement with the crew, since they should have the same materials I had. Big mistake. I was having the work done because in late June, I'd had my sewer line replaced. To hold the dirt in place until the cooler weather when the landscaping and reseeding could be done, I'd seeded down the front of the bare area with an annual
grass, and had a hose reel attached to the faucet at the front of the house to keep it watered. I left the house reel in place so the crew wouldn't have to drag their own hose to the site, and I'd be all set to start watering when the work was done. The crew disregarded the plan, left an 8' gap around the faucet and hose reel, and crowded the plants together to fit. If I'd wanted an 8' gap in the landscaping I would have had the excavators remove just the one evergreen that was over the sewer line. I contacted
, and they promised to either come out and move the plantings, or add another plant to compensate. Several weeks later they did add another plant at no charge. So I give them credit for making it right, but it was a frustration that would have been avoided had the installers followed the plan. (And lesson learned: I didn't take the day off because I was saving them in case they would be needed for a health issue. Next time I'm staying home to supervise.) I had
include aerating the front yard in the estimate. On the installation day, I told the crew that I'd like them to go ahead and aerate the back yard while they were at it. They said they'd add to the work order and do it when they did the front. They did, and the charge was quite reasonable. So a plus for
. Overall, communication was lacking. The widow next door says the crew gave her lots of free advice on caring for her yard, but even though I was the guy paying for the service, I got zilch. When I came home from work on install day, the crew was gone. The plantings were in place, the river rock and edging was complete, a ton of topsoil had put over the excavated ground, smoothed, and a straw seed blanket put down. I was a little puzzled as to whether grass seed had been put down, as I didn't see any along the edges of the straw blanket. I couldn't imagine that it hadn't been seeded and watered anyway, and in about 10 days you could see the new grass coming up. When the crew came back to aerate they also overseeded the front yard, which helped along the
of the straw blanket. It still seemed to be seeded pretty thinly in spots, so I used another pound of seed to be certain it was well covered. I had professionals handle my landscaping needs because I had surgery on my leg last winter and have a little trouble getting up and down. I also was having trouble with fatigue, which was probably from the cancer's then-undiagnosed metastasis. But all in all, I think I would have been better off getting the plants from Timber Pine, having a load of river rock and of topsoil delivered to the driveway, and done it all myself, 20-30 minutes at a time, over the course of two or three months.

"Everything went well. We were remodeling our kitchen, I was sure trying to add fixtures and rewire was going to be a nightmare, but he made it look easy! My new fixtures look great" He was on time, friendly, professional and when I needed to add a couple of items it wasn't a problem. He was great to work with. I would highly recommend him.

An arborist noticed a large tree in our front yard may need to be removed, and as that tree is the very centerpiece of our landscaping (we couldn't imagine not having a tree there), we looked into replacing it with a mature tree (25'-35'). It is *very* hard to find a company who not only has trees of this size available, but can also place them.
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
is one of those places. I contacted them, and
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
was kind enough to walk me through my options and
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
took a look at the property. We have some challenging aspects to our property (including power lines), but
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
had some ideas, and had some good tree suggestions (although I was really hoping for a Princeton Elm). We eventually decided to work to save our tree, based on another arborist's recommendations, but I certainly appreciate
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
's responsiveness, service and professionalism - and they had good prices, as well.

We contracted to have the ditch in front of our house that leads to a drain under our driveway re-graded and wanted it filled with large "cobble stones" rather than common creek rock (a mix of 1" and larger round rocks) or rip-rap (a course rock) but our contractor could only provide the common variety creek rock. Undeterred I called around and located
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
who allegedly stocked the larger Cobble Stones at a premium cost of ~50% more per yard plus trucking (they're 30 miles from our house) . So to make a long story short... 1) I called
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
several times and spoke with
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
(
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
)
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
- who we now know to be "a principal" along with her brother
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
- because I wanted to make absolutely certain they had the rock we wanted.
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
assured me their Cobble Stones/Decorative creek rocks were 4" and larger and that the only thing smaller would be pieces broken off while loading or unloading. 2) Our contractor agreed to let me provide the rock so once the work was scheduled I called
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
and scheduled three 6 ton loads of their 4+ inch Cobble Stone to be delivered at a cost of $1047.96 which I had to pre-pay by CC. (~$785 for the rock + 3 delivery charges) 3) Their first load/delivery of "Cobble Stones" prompted a call from our contractor.
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
had delivered common 1+" creek rock - the same material our contractor stocks! I called
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
and spoke with
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
- the person I coordinated the delivery with. He felt badly but said his associates hadn't properly explained that their Cobble Stone was, in fact, common creek rock. In response I told him
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
had assured me the Cobble Stones would be 4+ inches and that's what I wanted. He said he'd call the owner* to see what could be done. (*later ID'ed to be the father,
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
, of
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
Excavating). The bottom line is:
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
couldn't supply the Cobble Stones I pre-paid them to deliver so I cancelled the other 2 loads and
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
directed
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
to credit us 2/3 of the amount charged. It's been 48 hours since we had to cancel our order and NO credit has been issued NOR has the owner returned our calls (2 to his excavating company and 1 to
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
) . Net/Net - we were misled then charged a premium + trucking for common creek rock. This was NOT a good "buying experience". The good news is our contractor was able to supply the balance of the rock required (albeit common creek rock) which cost less per ton and there was no additional trucking charge!

Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
sent us numerous color brochures and fliers listing and depicting various landscape, perennial, and annual plants which looked attractive to add to our flower beds and accent our landscape. My husband and I telephoned them and inquired further. We live in a marshy area of zone 9 and told this to the experts at
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
. They informed us that all their plants were guaranteed and our satisfaction was guaranteed as well. So we placed a substantial order of these types of plants and waited for their arrival.
When the plants arrived, many looked worse for the trip, but already having been advised by
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
just to plant them and they would thrive, we purchased many bags of topsoil and nursery soil to accent our raised beds and planted these many plants alongside existing plants and those we obtained from local
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
and also other mail order plant companies. We noted after a week, the plants from
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
were not coming out. After a couple of weeks they were dead. Plants we obtained from other mail order
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
and local
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
were thriving in our new soil and beds. We telephoned
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
and were told to give them more time, since many plants were known to come forth from roots, after the tops died off.
We waited until the gaps in our beds were an eye sore. All other plants were thriving, many blooming and the areas where
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
plants were planted were
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
. We telephoned
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
again and were told they would refund/credit those plants which had died. After we provided the plant numbers and all that effort, we were to receive an updated invoice from
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
. They said a new invoice would be forthcoming.
On August 9, 2014, we telephoned
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
again. We spoke with
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
who told us he was located in India.
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
noted the numerous plants we received that had died and manually calculated the amount we owed was $19.94.
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
told my husband and I that
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
would be sending us a revised invoice in the amount of $19.94, which we agreed to pay. We waiting for that invoice to arrive. As weeks went by, this revised invoice did not arrive.
The next communication we received about the matter was from a debt collection agency engaged by
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
. They stated we owed $55.04. We knew we did not owe this but after not receiving any revised invoice from
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
and being assured we could have complete confidence in their plants and satisfaction guarantees, we found that just was not true. Under protest we paid their debt collection company the $55.04 and sent a letter to the CEO of
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
detailing our report here. We have not heard back from the CEO, nor from
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
as of the posting of this review on September 29, 2014

Exceptional. We have owned our

home for more than 30 years, and this was one of the best service experiences we have ever had. When we first visited the Cardinal garden center, we were amazed at its beauty and serenity.
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
Mellusi is a skilled landscape architect with a terrific eye. He prepared a professional landscape design for our property, and as soon as we saw it, we knew that we wanted to go with Cardinal. All the work is done by four men (
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
and his brother
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
and two employees) who have been working together for decades and know what needs to be done and how to do it so well that the work seems to flow effortlessly. We made a few changes in the plant selections, but most of the time we came around to
Cambridge Nurseries Provider Name Locked
's view of how things should be done. He understands old houses and favors the kinds of materials and styles that would have been used when they were built: brick and bluestone and fieldstone; no concrete pavers. These guys are also a pleasure to have around. Because every aspect of the job from landscape design to driveway paving was done by the same people, there were no hassles, and everything turned out well. I recommend them enthusiastically.

Fabri Statuary was great. They have the largest selection of water features and fountains in the Bay Area. It is a multi-generational business so they know all aspects of water installations. They were punctional, informative and cost effective. I would definitely recommend anyone who wants a water feature to talk and work with them.

HIRTS & AMAZON DO NOT PUT THEIR COSTUMERS FIRST-

Neither Amazon or Hirts Nursery can figure out what their return/refund policy is on dead plants. I ordered and then received ten 4" Boston Ivy plants that where delivered over 2 wks. ago. Upon delivery I promptly opened the box and the potted 4" plants looked... weak. I planted and watered the plants the same day, there where no return instructions or planting instructions with the shipment. Four days later the plants where dead.

I called Amazon told them about my problem -Amazon said that they would contact Hirts and Hirts, would have 2 days to reply/respond to the problem (turns out Hirts did not). Almost 2 wks. later and 4 more phone calls (of which I was told 3 times there would be a replacement of product or refund) I discarded the shipping box and 10 planting pots.

AS OF TODAY Amazon changed their position- Amazon told me I HAD to now dig up the 10 dead plants and ship them back to Hirts- and see if I could get a refund from Hirts. When I checked Hirts web site (which is a Co. Amazon is representing ) Hirts has NO return policy posted under returns. See: hirts.com

After all the time and inconvenience this has cost me I would have been better off going to Home Depot
