Remodeling reviews in Burlington
After some initial back and forth, we finally reached someone and scheduled an appoint for what w thought would be measurements and the design session. The person who arrived for the appointment was clearly not a designer and knew nothing about materials either. We asked questions about flooring, durablity, insight on what types would be appropriate. He knew nothing about anything we asked -cork vs hardwood vs tile, etc. He showed us wood samples for cabinets, but knew nothing about the materials or construction. At one point, he stressed that they were all solid wood, but we pointed out to him that the brochure he gave us stated that was not the case. There were 2 grades of cabinetry list in the brochure and he seemed unaware of that until my husband pointed it out and could not explain the differences. He repeatedly suggested we go to there
He measured our existing layout, which we pointed out was not the layout we want. We plan on extending the kitchen further into existing family room area (it is one large open area that is kitchen at one end and family room at the other) We also have an unsusal shape to the room w an asymetrical bump out in the area we want to expand to. We explained we wanted a complete redesign w the addition of wall ovens, large island, bar service area and prep sink. He didn't get it and kept suggesting changing one wall of pantry to top and bottom cabinets which would give me extra counter work space. I explained we would then
kitchen and dining area was very out of date. Next to our kitchen we had a bedroom that we wanted to expand into as part of our new space, however, that wall was a supporting wall. In our kitchen was also another low
supporting beam that needed to be dealt with. We were hoping for a front to back kitchen and dining area.
We met with our first general contractor (not on Angie’s List) who surveyed everything, told us what they believed we could or could not do and then told us to go to Lowe's or Home Depot to plan out the space and cabinetry. We
were disappointed as we had no idea how to change and utilize our space. This contractor told us that they could remove the supporting wall but could do nothing with the other supporting beam.
We had been thinking of using a design to build company and after talking with a second general contractor this confirmed
that was exactly what we needed to do. Through Angie’s list we developed a list of three excellently rated
design to build companies. We met with each company and they all were very nice, listen to our needs, took many notes
The first two companies we met with, while very nice, did not give us very impressive ideas on utilizing our
proposed space. Both wanted to keep most of our appliances and plumbing in the same general areas, only gutting that
immediate area about 12’x12’. They both (incredibly) told us we could do the painting to help save money and encouraged it. One company almost convinced us not to break down the wall, because it would increase the cost too much. Needless to say we were discouraged and figured we were going to have to really down size to stay around our budget.
Then we met with
to do a design for us. When we saw her presentation we were blown away. She listened to everything we said and incorporated it into her designs. Our kitchen/ dining area would have a completely new look. The entire space was gutted to
the studs, supporting wall taken out, our second supporting beam recessed and walls opened into adjoining rooms. Pegasus had the most reasonable cost of all the companies. Their proposal included the entire project up to the last drop of paint. (excluding appliances)
Considering that this was the first time we had attempted a project of this magnitude, we were nervous to say the
least. The project, to our relief, went extremely well.
They showed up when they said they would, cleaned up after every work day and were finished within two weeks of our
estimated finish date. Every worker that came into my home was pleasant and respectful.
During our project we added several change orders and Pegasus’s was very reasonable and upfront with their cost and
We are very happy with our new kitchen and dining area. Our friends and family are all very impressed. I would not hesitate to use them again.
We highly recommend ”
Work promised: 1. door relocation
2. window installation
3. drain for front porch
4. build a wall
5. install an AC outlet
He didn't dig the hole for the new door (said too much work)
He charged us for a new door to put in the original location (door to be moved 2" wider)
Framed wall but did not sheet rock or insulate it
Never ran the electrical outlet as promised
Tore down half the side wall for new door then left it torn to pieces after refusing to put the door there.
Space below the window leaked when it rained
Never sealed the wall around the window but tacked up old sheet rock with little pieces so it looked like a puzzle
Cut the closet shelf in half (ABSOLUTELY no idea why!), rendering it useless
Cut holes in the ceiling and side wall (checking for wires) and left it
Broke an AC vent and left it sitting on the floor
Door stop below door was NOT repoured or sealed -- leaked BADLY when raining
Left a huge pile of dirt for us to shovel outside
This company is TERRIBLE and NOT TO BE TRUSTED. We had to pay even more money just to redo his shoddy work and fix all the stuff he broke!!
THIS IS A TERRIBLE TERRIBLE COMPANY!!
