Clock Repair reviews in Shreveport

For an antique grandmother clock, they come to the house and I usually have a couple of small clocks waiting for them. They do routine maintenance on all of my old clocks, and have done repairs on a few that have not run in years and are now happily ticking. For small clocks, I usually got to their location.

My grandfather clock is ~ 25 years old and has only been serviced twice (my bad.) The chimes had stopped working a few months ago and I planned to call for service. Then the movement stopped and I checked Angie's List for a local repairman. I called and

(owner) offered to come out that day (very surprising - thought I'd have to wait weeks!) but I was busy. We scheduled an appointment for several days later.

showed up on time, asked a few questions about the clock and got to work disassembling it. We chatted as he worked and he explained that most manufacturers recommend lubricating every 2 years - he thinks it could go 3-4. He explained how he could tell from the serial number when the clock was made and other details (including that

clocks made for a period of time in the early '90s had some problems with the chimes.) Luckily, my clock wasn't in that group. He said that the movements eventually wear and showed some pieces that had some play in them. They are still working, but recommended if they do stop to just replace the entire movement would be easier and cost would be about the same. Regular cleaning and lubrication keeps the clock working and you could expect to get 30 years out of a clock like mine. He disassembled the clock taking out the pendulum, chime weights, clock face, and clock movement. He inspected each piece, cleaned and oiled. After reassembling he stayed for a little while to make sure that the clock was operating and the chimes were striking as they should. He said he would send me a reminder card for service when due. Overall, I think

did a great job, he explained everything he did, didn't make recommendations for additional costly repairs that weren't warranted, was available for service quickly, and the cost was very reasonable - a little less than I expected to pay. Highly recommend his service.

Excellent job!

was responsive and professional. After fixing the clock and oiling it, it worked for about 25 minutes and then stopped. I called

and he returned the call within the hour and walked me through the corrective actions. After repeating the steps a few times, the clock is now working like a charm.

explained that the oil needed to work through the gear mechanism to work. He was right! He also provided me with instructions on maintenance of the clock, including how to wind it, how to move the hands and how to change the chime settings.

Be careful This guy is a fast talker. Talks a lot. A lot. I know I over paid. Be careful. His game is to talk a lot and get you pulled in. I would absolutely positively never recommend him to anyone. He worked h****** getting me be buy a whole new mechanism...and you know what i did. $1,000.

My watch isn't high-end, but I like to support local business, and replacing a battery when the case is a little tricky to open is something I'm happy to leave to professionals. I also hate having to park and hike into a mall kiosk. However, $12 is still a quarter of the cost of the watch itself (MSRP, I paid about $30 online) and they told me to come back the next day - when I'd dropped it off at about 3 p.m. I guess my little watch isn't worth prioritizing over the Rolexes and Omegas. I won't prioritize giving them my business at their current prices and wait time.

The entire process took a year from pickup to delivery. He claimed he had to fabricate a part in his shop for the grandmother clock. The grandmother clock runs fast, and gains an hour or so per week, making it useless. The antique wall clock hour hand broke when I was winding it and is now a wall decoration.
I called several times to arrange a followup service which has not been done as of the date of this review.
I have hired another clockmaker to repair the clocks.

My husband called

, since we hadn't heard a response after contacting through Angie's List.

was very responsive on the phone and set up an appointment to come to our home and check out our grandfather clock, which was not operating and chiming like it should. When

came over, he went right to business, commenting on the quality and age of the clock, as well as the problem and fix in a very understandable way.
Shreveport Antique Clock Repair Provider Name Locked
has been in this business many, many years and knows grandfather clocks. He even took a look at our much older mantel clock at no extra cost, and did not try to sell us. He did tell us what it would cost to put a new movement in there, which sounded reasonable to us, but he did not encourage the service anytime soon. He told us to enjoy it for a while just the way it was.

was full of information about clocks and very eager to answer our questions.
Shreveport Antique Clock Repair Provider Name Locked
