"small paint job was adequately done at price which seemed fair but not a bargain. Requests for estimate on additional work did not go well. No sense of real understanding of work on" part of
; seemed afraid of the work but did NOT say "can not do" or "someone else . . for this part" & did not contact to discuss or raise questions. Some other providers (but not all) were able to diagnose accurately. Difference seemed to be depth of experience - contractors who did seem to understand had more experience in business and had seemed qualified to do "bigger jobs". Contractor ultimately chosen completed work properly & timely at a cost that seemed reasonable. Because they did not disqualify themselves from work they seemingly did not understand or take time to discuss/explain issues (there was a brief written explanation), will not use again. Seemed more concerned with justifying their charges and less concerned with doing the job right.

"Excellent job. Punctual and conscientious.
did a great job and explained everything. Putting down tile, redoing the wall surface from the ground up, installing" vanity, toilet, mirror and lights. A man of many talents, he even took the extra care in the toilet install to avoid any leaks in the future. Price was reasonable compared to other quotes and quality was outstanding. I would use their services in the future. Really.

"I hired
to help me for a day, I initially had the focus of needing help doing a bit of framing & wall covering (using OSB boards as a 1st
" on my walls).
called back shortly after I first left a message & we set up a day & time. He asked what kind of work was needed so he could ensure that he brought the appropriate tools - which he did, and then a few extra's which were nice given I ended up asking him to do more. He confirmed that day before his anticipated arrive time and then, arrived on time the day of service. I was pleased enough with his service that day, I asked if he could return the following day to help me with some additional work. He helped do some framing of a few walls, sheet the walls with OSB sheething (a particular need I had associated with home theater sound proofing), he removed the door from my upstairs into the basement and looked quite nice the way he did it. I also had him do some additional work with Framing a few areas that needed to be completed before the drywall crew was to come the next day. I was definitely pleased with his services, and will consider using him again shortly for another phase in my project.

OK - terminology issue here. The "shower pan" is a collection liner than underlies the shower floor itself, and is designed (if built and plumbed right) to trap any leakage from the shower floor and route it to the same floor drain pipe. Example image here, copper in this case -

http://indigochreblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/img_0835.jpg

It sounds like your are saying the shower floor or base unit failed - likely a fiberglass or plastic shower, which commonly fail due to incomplete support under them. This can be repaired if fiberglass, but is not usually done unless just microcracking, as it is hard to find an expert - usually you have to have a car body fiberglass specialist or a surfboard repair expert do it, and the color will not match perfectly unless you get a new gelcoat over the entire base unit. Cost about $300-500, ASSUMING the material can be repaired - true fiberglass can, thermoplastic can sometimes be welded but anyone's guess how long it will last without cracking again, plastics like PVC can rarely be fixed so they will hold someone standing on them. Any sort of repair is likely to crack again, because you have done nothing to remove the cause of the cracking which is standing on a base that is not fully supported over its full extent. Some cheepo or desperate plumbers try injecting non-pressuring type expanding foam underneath to improve the support - this does a great job of supporting it but unfortunately supports mold, so starts stinking in short order as a rule.

The normal fix is to remove and replace it, because once it is out there is no sense in putting a damaged one back in for the small increment in cost. Removing it means taking the shower wall liners or the bottom row or two of tile out so you can get the new base unit into place (because they overlap it), then replacing them. So, the $3000 range indicated is indicative of this type of job, which typically runs from a very low of around $1500-2000 for an identical base unit, to more typically $3-5,000 depending on whether a shower enclosure or tile walls. Of course, when the new one is put in, it is CRITICAL that it be fully supported - this means rubbing plumbers rouge or similar marking substance on the bottom, test fitting it, and then lifting it out and checking that all the stiffener ribs and support pads made contact with the pan, and making adjusments as necessary until it has full contact, then standing in it and rocking back and forth to check for any points not making full contat and fixing them.

The $10,000 plus numbers you got must have been for entire shower replacement down to the joists and studs, and the $30,000 range number would be typical for a full bathroom remodel with new shower or shower/tub and doors and surround, wall finishes, vanity, sink, toilet, and flooring and door.

I am not sure a general handyman is the right person for the skylight.  We fix quite a few skylights that were installed by handymen and that could be the problem at its origination.  You will want a roofer for that.

As long as you are splitting the trades at that point, might as well get a flooring contractor to look at the floor once you have figured out the skylight repair/replacement equation.

This was the first time I used Angie's List and before I signed up and paid for the "$199
Alexandria Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
for a day" with
Alexandria Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
I actually googled the company, called and spoke with
Alexandria Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
.
Alexandria Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
was very professional and very nice, indicating to me that he was trying to build up the business which I believe he'd recently taken over. When we spoke near the end of August he said they were very busy and it would be a few weeks before he could get to me but that was fine. We discussed what I wanted done and scheduled a 9 am appointment on September 30. On September 8 he messaged me through Angie's List and said he had double booked for that morning and would I mind moving to the afternoon. I messaged him back on September 11 and said that I was leaving town that afternoon of 9/30 so could we move it to October 6 when I got back. I've never heard from anyone at
Alexandria Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
again although I did send another message on Sunday, October 5 through Angie's List saying since I hadn't heard anything I assumed no one would be there on Monday, 10/6 and asked him to call me to talk about rescheduling as by this time the original work I called him about had become more urgent and we had to have it taken care of (that of course was not his fault). I still haven't heard anything from the company either through your site or by telephone.
At this point I would like my money back.
PS: The work was scheduled to be done at a rental house I own.

was great. He and his team got here on time and spent the whole time working. They walked me through what they had done , which was all fantastic and exceeded my expectations. Our
Alexandria Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
needed wood railings replaced and also re enforced them. He also painted them. We had a wood canopy above our mailboxes that was falling down and they rebuilt it so now it is sturdy and should last a very long time.
I'm goign to call

who was also great, to schedule

Due to various reasons we were unable to schedule a date for the work to start. I suggested to

that perhaps we shouldnt begin this project at this time.

Alexandria Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
was very polite and professional in his dealings with me.

I will call him in the future to reschedule.

arrived exactly on time. after going over the projects, he got right to work. I really appreciated not having to schedule another day for the work to start after agreeing on the costs etc.
He patched old exhaust vent holes in the concrete wall and deteriorated cinder block in the pool pump room. The biggest project was to replace some wood siding on the second story. We have a mansard roof with inset windows and the T1-11 siding below the windows had become rotted.

replaced it all with

Board cement board and painted it as well. I looks great and he handled a few unexpected situations very well.
Alexandria Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
is a great guy. easy going and does great work.
I was also impressed that
Alexandria Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
the owner called to follow up on how the project went. I will use them again, no question about it.
