"Considerable leakage from valve onto bathroom floor beneath the toilet necessitated turning off all water to the house. I had some concern that removing the valve" by attempting to twist it from the incoming water line might cause a secondary leak within the wall that I would not be capable of managing. The valve was firmly attached to the pipe. I feared having to cut through drywall to replace a fitting behind the wall if I proceeded so I called
for service. Ordinarily replacing such a valve is just a
twist to remove and replace operation. Serviceman arrived in reasonable amount of time. Fortunately he was able to remove the valve from the incoming line without doing anything to the line inside or outside of the bathroom wall. I was not present so did not see how he was able to remove the valve from the incoming pipe. Without my permission he replaced the float mechanism and flapper valve inside the toilet which were relatively new. I have no objection to that. Total parts cost at Home Depot would probably be about $30 or so. Time serviceman was in the home was about 30 minutes... long enough for me to walk my dogs around the block. As noted, the price was $571.54. I had to sign before the work was begun that I would pay what was charged. I assumed the charge would be reasonable as I have replaced four or five such valves under other toilets in the past. To their credit,
served me well in that they arrived when they said they would and did a good job replacing the valve and though not requested, replaced parts inside the toilet. Having done the same service work myself in the past I felt that $200 to $250 would have been a fair price, not $571. I hate giving bad reviews. I have debated sharing this review for nearly a year. I don't like hurting any one''s business.

"Repair for a water heater. They inquired as to the age of the unit and it ends up it was under warranty. Thanks to that, it ended up only being a labor cost job. Thanks for the job well done!

From the sounds of it, you have a clog between the floor drain and the connection to the city sewer (unless you have a septic tank).  The lower flow rates of sinks / showers / dishwashers probable don't cause a backup like the washing machine does.  A couple of suggestions.

1.  Snake the drain line with a spade tip snake, twisting the snake as you advance it.  This should clear the partial blockage.

 2.  If feasable, have your washing machine discharge into a utility sink and put a strainer on the drain to catch the clothing fibre (fibres and grease from the sink probably made the clog in the first place not to mention a garbage disposal).

3.  Replace your floor drain with one that has a backflow preventer (looks like there is a ping pong ball in it).

 Good Luck

It is not uncommon for a plumber to have to go get the parts necessary to repair and complete the job.  It is very hard to determine what the problem is over the phone and it is not until the repair process begins that the parts needed to resolve the problem is discovered.  It may also depend on if the plumber is using hourly rates or per job rates.  I would hope the time to get the parts would be minimal and the charge would be as well!

FYI: CPVC and PEX are two different materials and installed differently.  PEX is not intended to be glued but instead has special crimp fittings.  PEX is a brand name of one product that is manufactured slightly differently by others as well so it is important that the same brand fittings are used to match the pipe material.

Mobile homes used CPVC for years and some still do.  It works fine but is not as strong as a properly soldered copper pipe system.  Is the contractor installing this new plumbing a licensed plumber?  I'd be surprised if he is since he's using CPVC and not PEX (or similar) or copper.  PEX pipe is even cheaper than CPVC when run by a knowledgable plumber.  It doesn't require nearly as many joints since it comes in rolls and can flex through spaces easily.

There are some groups raising a fuss about BPA and other chemicals found in plastics that don't like the use of CPVC, PVC, or PEX pipe.  I haven't seen the results of any lab tests to confirm or dispute their concerns.  As far as durability goes it's fairly safe as long as it's properly installed and secured.  It is not as susceptible to hard water damage as copper.  It absolutely must be insulated along it's entire length to protect it from contact to other materials as well as freezing.  Also, the fixtures in the house need to be grounded electrically since the pipe itself provides no electrical protection against accidental shock or electrocution.  In a copper plumbed house the system is grounded so static electricity, a short in a wire near a water line, or lightning strike will carry the current out through the pipe instead of through the water to you, ideally.

If it's installed correctly you should be fine but make sure the contractor knows what he is doing and follows the proper procedures to use CPVC pipe.

It is usually cheaper to remove part of the ceiling below and patch it after the leak has been repaired.  Remember that water can travel before settling in one area, causing the spot you've seen.  Just because it is below the toilet does not mean that the toilet is the problem.  The cheapest option is to pull the toilet and check the floor around the wax ring to see if it has been leaking.  A new wax ring only costs a few dollars.  When was the last time you caulked the shower in that bathroom?  The water can leak around the corners or at the door (if you have one) and travel along the floor joists until it pools in a lower spot on the ceiling below, then seep through.  It could also be a seal at the drain of the tub or shower.

I get a few calls a year for this sort of thing.  It's usually something simple but can be a nightmare to diagnose, especially if the problem is intermittent.  Start with the simple possibilities and use deductive reasoning to narrow the possibilities.  Before you do a lot of damage it may pay off to hire a reputable contractor to help you make sure you've exhausted all of the imple and more obvious possibilities.

repaired two leaks. One of the leaks came from a damaged copper pipe from outside, through the block wall and into the home. The second leak was copper to pvc outside and went underground.

. The Nederland office was called out to unclog a kitchen drain which they did but I was told that the drain pipe is most likely cracked and will clog again if not repaired. They offered to run a camera down the drain and give me pictures for a price of 368.00. Instead a got a phone call later that day asking for payment since I was not there when the service was performed. I had to call twice for a copy of the invoice and the pictures. They emailed me an invoice with some pictures taken off of a tube television monitor which I was unable to make out anything. The excuse was on the invoice. "Too muddy to see anything" and "Pictures are in black and white and not able to make out anything"
I paid for an extra service to be performed to determine if indeed a pipe was cracked and needed to be repaired. Instead I got excuses and very bad pictures off an old computer monitor for almost 400.00. In my opinion this is very unprofessional service and somewhat of a rip off. For 368.00 jpg format of the pictures should have been emailed to me not poor pictures on old tube monitor and if pictures do not come out they should reschedule or offer some reimbursement compensation or tell you in advance that pictures may not come out. I asked for a refund or pictures and they resent pictures from the tube monitor.

I had another plumber come 3 times and $800 later to find and fix a leak that was coming out of my ceiling. I decided to try Patriot due to their reviews on Angies list. The Patriot plumber shows up and in less than 5 minutes identified the problem which we could easily fix. Because they did not use any tools there was no charge. I don't know any plumber who will come to your home without a minimum charge.

, the service manager, was outstanding! I had been waiting for a couple of weeks to get this 2,000
Williamsburg Plumbers Provider Name Locked
-per-day leak fixed, after failed attempts with two other companies. One, my A/C and Plumbing contractor that I normally use for A/C repairs and some minor plumbing work, ended up saying after a couple of days to come out and estimate the job that they couldn't do that kind of repair and I needed to get a larger-scale plumber. Then, after calling Mr. Rooter Plumbing to do an estimate and have the underground lines located before they could dig, they then said they would finally be out one day the following week and never showed up - never even called. I called in to ask what was going on and they said they had another big important job and would reschedule for the next day. Same thing happened the next day, and the day after that. I told them nevermind, I'd find someone else, and ended up calling United.
Williamsburg Plumbers Provider Name Locked
came out the next day to do an estimate, and right from the get-go I knew I finally had the right plumber. He had a "can do" attitude that made it seem so
Williamsburg Plumbers Provider Name Locked
, after other plumbers I called for estimates made the job sound like such a big hairy deal and estimated very high - one (Aztec Plumbing) even estimated $1,500 for the job that I ended up paying United less than $500 for. As soon as United could get the underground lines located again (each contractor has to call themselves and re-request it in order to cover themselves), they got people out here as soon as they had an opening in a day or so. And, actually came when they said they would!
Williamsburg Plumbers Provider Name Locked
said that it would be just labor and very little cost for materials (PVC pipe), and that while labor for one plumber was $90 per hour, he could send 2 plumbers to get the job done in about half the time for a "new construction" rate of $110 per hour - very much worth it! Furthermore, when the day came and one of his plumbers was needed for some other job that had to be finished, instead of not showing up or rescheduling like Mr. Rooter did,
Williamsburg Plumbers Provider Name Locked
came out himself so that I'd still have 2 plumbers working, even though he's the service manager and doesn't normally do that kind of work anymore! The 2 of them worked their tails off (it had to be all hand-digging because they were crossing numerous buried cables and had to be careful), got the whole job completely done in 3 1/2 hours and for far less than the price anyone else gave me. Not only that, they also saved me the cost of a GE refrigerator repair call, because I happened to mention I had a leak that was from the ice/water line to the fridge, so
Williamsburg Plumbers Provider Name Locked
said "no problem" and they came in and fixed that leak (replaced tubing and connection) and didn't even charge me for it! To top it all off, they even installed some new washer hoses that I had bought but had been putting off installing myself, AND fixed a loose faucet handle that was more than just tightening a set screw (he had to get under the sink and loosen the faucet stem to remove the top cover, etc.) and didn't even charge me for either of those things too! And they charged 3 1/2 hours labor when actually they were here closer to 4 hours! This company now has a new customer for good, I was so impressed and so satisfied with these folks!

Woke up Sunday morning with water dripping into master bedroom closet from a leaking water heater installed in the attic (dumb place). American Home Shield sent someone out, but was not happy with his knowledge. Have used
Williamsburg Plumbers Provider Name Locked
before for putting in an expansion tank on the water heater, thus I called Monday morning and he came out in the afternoon to see what needed to be done (assuring us that there will be no more water leak before he was able to relocate and put an electric water heater in). Came out Wednesday and he an his son did an excellent job of removing the old from the attic, making sure the gas and water lines were taken care of. Then installed a huge electric water heater in the garage (would have cost more to reroute the gas line to the garage) . Did a great job, cleaned up everything. Gave us info on maintenance, etc. Finally had hot water again. Very highly recommend. Some may consider his price high, but he knows what he's doing and was very efficient and installed a "professional" water heater.

and his crew were very professional and a pleasure to be around. Not only did they quote us the best price of all the estimates we received, they did an outstanding job. We got 4 estimates total, and it seemed like, that all the other companies were trying to take advantage of us, because of the situation we had. They brought in throw blankets and covered all the carpets and other flooring where they were working. The work was done in less time then estimated, even though they ran into a small problem that was not foreseeable (lines in walls). after completion of the job, they clean all areas where they worked at, and I have to say it was spotless.( I could've not done a better job). I highly recommend their service. Hopefully, I don't have any more pluming problems, but if I do, there is only one company I would call.
