"Working with
Service used to be good. It has been terrible this year. We have a service contract with
for our refrigerator." Earlier this year we called
to repair the icemaker. We had to call them about five times. They failed to call and failed to show up when scheduled. They promised to replace the refrigerator the next time it failed, but reneged on that promise in an email yesterday. In May we bought a washing machine. It was delivered June 29. It is
25 now and they still haven't installed it. When they delivered it, they said we needed new faucets on the water hookups, so we got that done the following week. We called
, they scheduled finishing the installation, did not call us the night before as they promised, and never showed up. I called
again last weekend, around
18. They scheduled service for
24, and said they'd call the night before. They did not call, and again they failed to show up or even tell us they couldn't make it. I called
again today and also emailed, and the rep scheduled yet another appointment for
29. He says they'll call the night before. I find it hard to believe they'll actually do the work they promised, since they lied three times before.
used to be good. They've been terrible this year. "Where was the service performed?" -- Actually, it was NOT performed!

Small Appliance Repair

Small appliances play a big role in our daily lives. When shopping for microwave ovens, vacuums, toasters, mixers and more, choose appliances that fit your need and budget. When it comes to repairs, compare the cost of fixing to the cost of replacing the item.

Personal opinion but I will not buy another front load washing machine again.  They simply do not clean clothes as well as the old agitator style washers do.  In the summer when I am hot and sweaty I have to wash shirts at least twice, sometimes up to four times to get the stink out.  Also, while they may save water per load washed, they run a lot longer.  My old washing machine took about 20 minutes to wash a load of clothes.  The front loader takes about an hour.  What it saves on water it more than makes up for in electricity I'm sure running three times as long.  Our front loader has not leaked but it doesn't do the job for my clothes.  Maybe someone sitting in an office all day has fewer problems having to rewash clothes.

As for appliance brand recommendations I have no particular favorites.  They all seem to be disposable these days, often costing as much to repair as to replace.  Samsung has made some good appliances as of late I've heard a lot of good reviews about from customers.  I've got a customer who bought a Kenmore refrigerator when they built the house.  The ice maker has gone out and the replacement part isn't any better since it's a known defect according to the appliance repairman they had look at it.  It was just past the warranty so they didn't pay for another part to be installed that was going to fail again.  Since Kenmore is made by other companies I'm sure they aren't the only one with this problem.  We live in a disposable society.  I look at how well it works, the warranty and cost and weigh the last two of those after kicking out the ones with bad reviews on that model.

Depends a lot on your current configuration. Rough numbers, $4-7,000 for the generator including autostart and automatic load transfer circuit box and master breakers (usually all come on the generator).

Installation (with pad already inplace and gas hookup - about $500-1000.

Electrical about $800 minimum, to maybe $2500. The $800 will get you a simple transfer switch installation but if you want some household circuits to run on the generator but others not, depending on how your current wiring is run, can run to $2000 to pull existing circuits to a new panel.

The problem is that all circuits that are going to be on the generator, unless you are planning to carry the entire household load, have to go to a separate circuit breaker panel which is fed off the automatic transfer switch, so they get power from either the power company or the generator, depending on which is providing power at the moment. That means the circuits running off either source have to be disconnected from your current breaker box, extended (commonly) over to the new box, and hooked up. All other circuits stay on your current breaker box, to run only off the public power when it is on. If the generator is large enough capactiy for your entire house load of course it costs more, but this circuit termination point moving is not needed, so electrical work drops way off to basically a connection box with the transfer switch.

A couple of words of advice - pay attention to weather protection, fire barrier between the unit and the house (including issues of overhead decks that can catch fire), automatic fire shutoff/suppression, and trickle charging from house power to generator battery. Also read CAREFULLY your power comopany rules on generator installation (commonly requires their signoff), any code restrictions on generators and noise in your area, and if your insurance rate will go up. (It definitely does if you have a fuel tank, I don't know if it does with natural gas-fired generators.)

Initially, I visited the showroom and spoke with
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
. They have a small showroom and
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
showed me their inventory and discussed with me the pros and cons of electric vs. inductive type cooktops, as well as brands. Then she told me to research the various cooktops on line (she also had catalogs) and she would order the appliance for me. On my second visit to the showroom I met
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
. Both
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
and

were very friendly and helpful. I could reach them by phone as well as email to ask questions, and they were prompt and responsive.
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
will do installation and also remove the old appliance. In addition, if service or repair is ever needed, you just call them and they will take care of it. I wish I had known about

It was the middle of a very hot summer. The service took over ONE MONTH. I was on the phone every day with them and standing there with the service person. Each time I called they took 4 days to come out. When the service person needed a part, it took a day to pick up the part and 4 more days to schedule coming back out. Eventually, it was discovered that my compressor was bad and there was an existing recall that
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
knew nothing about. They then changed out the compressor, only gave me a prorated warranty on the new one, and charged me not only for the compressor, but all of the parts they replaced while troubleshooting the problem. I got a different service person for every call and they started from scratch each time, replacing parts to "see if that fixes it". I escalated the issue several times and eventually got a person who went about things in an organized way, but "headquarters" determined what I would be charged. I was told they would "make it right" but they avoided phone contact and I eventually gave up.
I am having more renovation work done (kitchen and bath) and will not even call
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
for a quote. I would never deal with them again. Imagine having to wait days and days in the heat of summer with no A/C. Our poor cats really suffered.

After my fridge broke on a Friday morning and a repairman determined it was a compressor so not a cost effective fix, I went to
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
based on several recommendations from friends and also the suggestion of my repairman. I walked in at noon and spoke to
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
(the owner) - he helped me find the perfect fridge in my price range, worked with me on the right size as the spot is very small and arranged delivery for the same day. Within 2 hours of walking in his store, my new fridge was installed and working. In addition, his delivery people were helpful and very mindful of being careful as they were taking away the old and installing the new. I will be back to
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
for all of my appliance needs in the future.

I believe that this contractor works exclusively for Spencers TV and Appliance, whom I actually bought the range from.
After removing the old unit, I was told that because the sizes between the old and the new were different, there would be an installation fee. I selected the unit based on it's dimensions and supposedly matching those of the old unit. Regardless, I would have appreciated knowing that there was going to be an installation fee.
"
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
" and his helper worked diligently and were done with the job in about 45-minutes. They cleaned up after themselves and didn't mar the cabinets or countertops which was very much appreciated.
I also appreciated that they took the old unit with them!

I spoke with the District Manager
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
this morning. I told him the story and that all I wanted was to return the Uline and purchase a Subzero. He told me there would be no problem with this request and he would discuss with his store manager and would call me tomorrow. I have adjusted my rating to a B based on his assurance and will adjust it to an A pending the actual resolution. I will truly be a satisfied customer if all that needed to be done was escalate this one level for a resolution.

We went into the store to purchase a subzero under counter refrigerator and wind frig for a kitchen remodel we are doing. The salesman, I believe his name was
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
, told us the Uline was the same exact thing a the zubzero and that Uline makes the subzero frig we wanted to buy and sells it for less since they are the actual manufacturer. He took more than 30 minutes to tell us why we should purchase the Uline instead. I am not an appliance expert so he convinced us. Long story short, we purchased the Uline in April. The frig was installed in June. It is nothing like a zubzero and
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
is NOT standing behind what they sold us.
It leaked all over the floor and our food when bad in about 2 days. The quality and performance of the Uline is not even close to the Subzero, I called to simply return this frig and buy the subzero which costs twice as much, I was told to speak with
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
, the manager. It took more than week for
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
to tell me that Uline will not take the frig back since the warranty paperwork went in in April. I made clear that I DID NOT BUY THIS FRIG FROM ULINE. It is clearly not the same quality as SubZero and we were promised it was the same exact refrigerator.
Response from
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
has been slow at best.. So far it has taken 2 weeks and nothing has happened. I have been supposed to hear from
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
, who I guess is
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
boss, but still not word. I made it clear , I want toreturn the Uline and buy a Subzero and I need to do it this week as our project is now coming to a close and I have a large opening in my kitchen where a frig is supposed to be.
Horrible service, response and does not stand behind what they sell.
They still have a
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
to make it right, but I have to buy the correct frig this week.

Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
came out on 7/10/2015. I had asked for someone who could repair all 3 appliances. I was concerned about smelling gas when the
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
Elite HE3 dryer was running, and had explained that the dryer was stacked on the washer.
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
brought an assistant to help move the dryer. He inspected it, said it was safe and the smell was from the very long vent hose that was likely kinked. He suggested not pushing the dryer quite as far back into its slot. The Whirlpool Gold refrigerator with freezer on bottom leaked water every week or so. When I cleaned the ice out of the bottom, it would be another week until it leaked again. When I made the appointment I let them know that a previous repairman had said it was a design flaw with the freezer.
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
was familiar with the issue and checked for the part that would indicate the suspected problem. It was a small rubber nozzle that clogs when it gets dirty and doesn't let the water drain during the defrost cycle of the freezer. He suggested 3 alternatives for repair: replace the nozzle for $5 (but the problem would happen again in a couple years); replace the nozzle with a p-trap suggested by Whirlpool, about $60, or just leave the nozzle off (this would make the freezer slightly less efficient but would eliminate the problem). I chose to leave off the nozzle.
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
said we had to let the freezer thaw so the draining process would start working. I could leave it off for 48 hours or he could defrost it for $65. I chose to let him defrost it and get the issue settled. The assistant worked on this while
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
diagnosed the oven. The oven had stopped working on the Frigidaire Gallery range. I suspected a bad igniter based on internet research.
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
inspected the oven and took things apart to properly diagnose. The problem was with the control panel - it was not sending power to the oven at all.
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
informed me the new control panel would be about $250. He could order the part and install it when it arrived the following week. I gave the go-ahead to order the part. This was on Friday. The part came in early the following week and
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
came out to install it. The control panel part did not include the clock face. When
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
replaced the control panel he had to separate it from the clock face and it pulled some paint off the clock face. It worked, but wasn't very pretty. A new clock face would cost $30 and there would be no charge to install it. I gave the go ahead for the part.
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
installed the new clock face the following Monday. Overall I was very happy with the quality of work and professionalism of
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
and
Somerset Appliance Stores Provider Name Locked
Appliance.
