"The Provider,
, was called on Thursday at 09:00, and asked if he could come out and look at a busted water line. Provider said he could" be there by 12:00. Provider arrived at 11:30.
, the owner of the company, looked at the problem, and said they should be able to fix the problem pretty quickly. While they (the owner,
and his assistant,
) were working on the problem, I happened to ask him if they also did clogged drains. He asked me what I meant and what the problem was. I told him, our drain line for the washer machine was extremely slow and my wife would have to stay in the room every time we used the machine in order to stop the machine before it ran over the top and onto the floor. He told me: "I think it only needs to be 'Snaked.'" I mentioned to him, that I didn't know if they did that kind of work, but I would probably get a few estimates. He emphasized to me that in his 37 years of experience, he thought it only needed to be "snaked out!" After they finished repairing the busted line, he just walked into my house and then asked me to show him where the washer machine was. I was a little shocked that he didn't even ask my permission, nor did he put any kind of booties over his muddy shoes. After he looked at the washer machine, he went to his truck, brought a snake machine back into my house, hooked it up and proceeded to snake out my washer machine line. We had not discussed anything about him actually doing the work or better yet, how much this was going to cost me. About 30 minutes later, he was done. He had been here for 1 1/2 hours and had the
to charge me $465. I will say,
seems to know what he is doing, is cordial, and does a good job; he even offered me a small piece of insulation to cover the section of pipe he repaired. However, I never dreamed of paying a plumber $465 for 1 1/2 hours of work.
really needs to work on his "Professionalism!" I can never afford to use this company again, nor will I ever refer them to any of my friends or enemies.

"Great! Although it was clearly a slow leak, the company (thank you,
) went out of its way to accommodate our schedule. The repairman came" as scheduled, diagnosed the issue quickly, drained and excised the leaky pipe, and installed a new section of copper pipe to repair it. He was expert, pleasant, efficient, and got the job done for a fair price. Can't ask for more: terrific!

From the sounds of it, you have a clog between the floor drain and the connection to the city sewer (unless you have a septic tank).  The lower flow rates of sinks / showers / dishwashers probable don't cause a backup like the washing machine does.  A couple of suggestions.

1.  Snake the drain line with a spade tip snake, twisting the snake as you advance it.  This should clear the partial blockage.

 2.  If feasable, have your washing machine discharge into a utility sink and put a strainer on the drain to catch the clothing fibre (fibres and grease from the sink probably made the clog in the first place not to mention a garbage disposal).

3.  Replace your floor drain with one that has a backflow preventer (looks like there is a ping pong ball in it).

 Good Luck

It is not uncommon for a plumber to have to go get the parts necessary to repair and complete the job.  It is very hard to determine what the problem is over the phone and it is not until the repair process begins that the parts needed to resolve the problem is discovered.  It may also depend on if the plumber is using hourly rates or per job rates.  I would hope the time to get the parts would be minimal and the charge would be as well!
?
FYI: CPVC and PEX are two different materials and installed differently.  PEX is not intended to be glued but instead has special crimp fittings.  PEX is a brand name of one product that is manufactured slightly differently by others as well so it is important that the same brand fittings are used to match the pipe material.

Mobile homes used CPVC for years and some still do.  It works fine but is not as strong as a properly soldered copper pipe system.  Is the contractor installing this new plumbing a licensed plumber?  I'd be surprised if he is since he's using CPVC and not PEX (or similar) or copper.  PEX pipe is even cheaper than CPVC when run by a knowledgable plumber.  It doesn't require nearly as many joints since it comes in rolls and can flex through spaces easily.

There are some groups raising a fuss about BPA and other chemicals found in plastics that don't like the use of CPVC, PVC, or PEX pipe.  I haven't seen the results of any lab tests to confirm or dispute their concerns.  As far as durability goes it's fairly safe as long as it's properly installed and secured.  It is not as susceptible to hard water damage as copper.  It absolutely must be insulated along it's entire length to protect it from contact to other materials as well as freezing.  Also, the fixtures in the house need to be grounded electrically since the pipe itself provides no electrical protection against accidental shock or electrocution.  In a copper plumbed house the system is grounded so static electricity, a short in a wire near a water line, or lightning strike will carry the current out through the pipe instead of through the water to you, ideally.

If it's installed correctly you should be fine but make sure the contractor knows what he is doing and follows the proper procedures to use CPVC pipe.

It is usually cheaper to remove part of the ceiling below and patch it after the leak has been repaired.  Remember that water can travel before settling in one area, causing the spot you've seen.  Just because it is below the toilet does not mean that the toilet is the problem.  The cheapest option is to pull the toilet and check the floor around the wax ring to see if it has been leaking.  A new wax ring only costs a few dollars.  When was the last time you caulked the shower in that bathroom?  The water can leak around the corners or at the door (if you have one) and travel along the floor joists until it pools in a lower spot on the ceiling below, then seep through.  It could also be a seal at the drain of the tub or shower.

I get a few calls a year for this sort of thing.  It's usually something simple but can be a nightmare to diagnose, especially if the problem is intermittent.  Start with the simple possibilities and use deductive reasoning to narrow the possibilities.  Before you do a lot of damage it may pay off to hire a reputable contractor to help you make sure you've exhausted all of the imple and more obvious possibilities.

The job was accomplished with true professionalism/responsibility. While the plumbers were excavating the yard to get to the valve they accidentally broke some sprinkler system pipes. Immediately they notified me of the issue. They replaced rerouted all the sprinkler plumbing and finished the main valve replacement. I've used these guys multiple times on my property, they always call with any issues and offer multiple suggestions to tackle the job cost effectively. These are my go-to guys for plumbing issues in

Contractors are very busy once again in Portland. I called 4 plumbers friends recommended. Two didn't return my call, one gave me generalization over the phone and wouldn't come to take a look, and
Richmond Plumbers Provider Name Locked
wanted to charge me for an estimate. Khoi answered his phone right away and fit me in the next day. He spent an hour reviewing my existing plumbing, brainstorming a couple of approaches, and answering a bunch of questions I had about how my plumbing was set up. He's seen it all.
He knows his stuff! He gave me a number verbally after we spoke and followed up the next day with an emailed bid. He's down to earth, patient, kind, and skilled. He doesn't oversell. He has a crew of about 5 plumbers that he manages and doesn't necessarily do the work himself anymore. I haven't moved through with the work so don't know the quality of his team yet.
He's $125/hr which was high to me, but maybe that's how expensive plumbers are now. I remember not long ago when they were $75/hr.

Total to re-pipe throughout the house (replace pipes from basement up through walls to sinks, shower head, etc).

To start, we have previously ordered a $32 service fee visit from
Richmond Plumbers Provider Name Locked
on Angie's List's Big Deal. They came out and we were satisfied with their visit.
On this occasion, we ordered another $32 plumbing service fee off Angie's List Big Deal. We told them our kitchen faucet squeaked and that the manufacturer (Delta) had sent us the replacement part (free of charge because they warrant their faucets for lifetime), based on the model of our faucet. We requested help with installing the replacement parts Delta had already sent.
When the technician arrived today, he told my wife it would cost an additional $233 to replace the part. He then said Delta had sent us the wrong model cartridge and he had a cartridge on the truck that he could use. He installed the part and the faucet now works as it should. He spent approximately 30 minutes at our home.
After discussing the service with my wife when I got home from work, I feel our good faith has been taken advantage of. I'm not sure how much of the additional $233 represented the part charge (the receipt was not itemized), but I believe if we had received the wrong part from Delta, they would have sent the right part. The end result is we paid $265 for a part we could have obtained for free, a service fee, and 1/2 hour of labor. It seems excessive. We could have purchased a brand new faucet for less than this repair charge.

I had a clogged toilet and was not able to fix it myself. Called the company and they had someone at my house in an hour. They tried every possible solution to fix the backup. They determined that the issue was a clogged sewer pipe leading to the street. That is beyond the scope of what they do. They cleaned up nicely upon completion of their work. They were very professional and pointed me in the direction to get the issue remedied. The boss felt so bad about not being able to fix the problem that he gave me a discount on the service call.
