"When my family and I moved into a new house last fall, the only thing we really wanted to replace immediately was the shower door in the master bath. Although the"
had been updated, the shower door was a horrible bi-fold design that was annoying to open and close. After the door broke this spring, we finally contacted
at
to get an estimate and some suggestions.
came out to the house for a measurement and gave us a link to look at new doors with the provider he recommended. He was professional, courteous and easy to get in touch with. He personally did the work- he removed the old door frame and installed the new door (not bi-fold!). We couldn't be more pleased - the installation went smoothly and
was great to work with. We will not hesitate to use his company in the future and highly recommend him.

"Everything went extremely well. Before we started
and
gave us ideas and suggestions to make the most of the space" since we have small bathrooms. We purchased a few items ourselves to utilize a discount at a couple big box stores.
picked up and delivered those items to our house before the project started. We added a couple items and made changes from the original proposal. When we asked for a ballpark idea for the extra cost for those items,
gave us a very good idea of what it would be. Whenever there was a minor problem, they were quick with a solution. When they realized that the access panel on the whirlpool tub we chose did not have access to the motor, they had a solution. Both
and
checked on the progress daily and were there to lend a hand if needed.
asked me multiple times if I was happy with the way things were going. Everyone who came in to do work was very professional and did excellent work. When the medicine cabinet we purchased had a nick in the mirror,
suggested that it might be easier to call
and ask for a replacement part. It saved us the hassle of returning the cabinet.
also noticed that the light in the bathroom was dimming at times. After checking the circuits, they found a sparking breaker that needed to be replaced. Thankfully it was replaced before it caused any damage.

?

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

Your basic rights and protections under law are probably outlined by your state and city's laws. In most states, the easiest way to look up your basic rights and privelges as a consumer would be to visit your state's attorney general website - you can usually find lots of great tips to protect yourself as a consumer there, too. Here's the National Association of Attorneys General's national listing, which includes a link to each state's attorney general website: http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php

Beyond those basic rights under the law, your expectations of a contractor during, on and after the completion of a job should be explicitly outlined in the estimate and contract. Although it can be a pain in the butt, ALWAYS read the estimate and/or contract before sign it! I cannot stress this enough - frequently the cause of someone's negative experiences with a contractor can be traced back to too few details in the contract.

We've covered contracts, and what you should expect to see in them, here: http://www.angieslist.com/contractor/signing-a-contract.htm

Good luck!

They got off on the right foot during the preliminary sales/design call. It was important that
Nicholasville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
was able to show us samples of alternative materials that could be used and make suggestions to get the project within our budget limits. We. of course, had looked around prior for ideas and got other bids. But, seeing all the samples together at our home and adjusting for budget and design purposes was invaluable and sealed the deal.

did most of the work except for brief visits by the electrician and plumber. He was easy to work with and responsive. He answered all our questions. He also asked a lot of questions and gave suggestions regarding positioning cabinets, alternatives for the baseboard, etc. to make sure everything looked the way we wanted it to. He was efficient in getting a lot done in a given time period.

, the production manager, was also very responsive especially when glitches happened He did a good job during the initial walk through in pointing out potential obstacles to be overcome and telling us what to expect during construction. He was also very good at the end in dealing with the little items which needed to be addressed to make the project completely finished to our satisfaction.
There were a couple of change orders which increased the cost but these couldn't have been foreseen. The mortar bed in which the old tile was embedded was much much thicker than normal. This necessitated installation of an extra

of subfloor material to get the finished vinyl floor to the proper level. Also the old ceiling fan was vented just into the attic (as was done in the 70's) and not to the roof. This had to be taken care of to meet present code.

and his team did a beautiful job on our bathroom! Our house was built in the 40s, and the newly finished walls in our bathroom are smoother than anyplace else in our home. The subway tile they installed for us, as well as the niche they created, are absolutely gorgeous. The team was friendly and conscientious.

Not well. I ordered a Bathroom Design Consultation and expected to have a bathroom designer listen and understand my needs. I was told that I would get a quote upcoming remodel as a result of the consultation.
What I received was the owner of the company explaining what his company does, the products they used (any mention of other products was met with an immediate explanation of why they were inferior) and where the products would be located.
I never received the quote, what I received was an email stating that he did not believe that I wanted to do the remodel because the cost would be more than I was willing to pay since I was not willing to do the job right. This is totally false. I am willing to pay what it takes to do the job right. I am unwilling to have someone that I have spent 2 hours make my decisions for me and be forced into using a set of products that I have not done my research on.
Would have like to have know upfront that this was nothing more that a required discussion to determine the specifics of the job such as collecting measures, determining colors so that products could be order and other details that is is necessary, prior to developing a contract for work.
Biggest issue is that, this process was about
Nicholasville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
getting another bathroom remodeling job, the fact that I must live with this bathroom was irrelevant.

Overall, they did a great job. They quoted a price and stuck to it! When the dust became too unbearable, they put us in a motel at their own cost. They were very trustworthy and listened to our concerns. I would use them again. I would recommend them.

at
Nicholasville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked

Nicholasville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
was completely devoted in giving us an experience that we felt was as important as an entire house build. I had a problem with a cabinet door a year later. I called

Slow and unpredictable... Very poor communication skills ranging from top (owner-manager) to construction crew, including lack of returned calls from office staff. Workers would give a time and day they would arrive and "no-show" they would be. No communication as to when they might show up. This happened several times throughout the construction period. Many hours were wasted awaiting "no-show" crews. Company (owner/manager) contacted me to get update on progress from me and he made appointment to stop by, but no stop, no cancellation of proposed visit, and no notification. The only reliable person with the organization was it's salesperson. Very nice and supportive.

We used '
