"The work was scheduled on a specified day. I was given prep instructions and a window of 8-10 a.m. At 10:45 no one had showed up. When I called, they said that" they had a scheduling error and couldn't do the work that day. When I asked when they would be able to do the work, I was told that it would be in two weeks. I had already taken apart both showers and scheduled another contractor to install shower doors. Needless to say, this is unacceptable. They called me back and left a message that they could do it two days later instead. I re-arranged my schedule to accommodate the new day and called them back. I was told that they had already given that time away. Seriously? This is what their website says, "Professionalism: Show upon time. Do exactly what we say we will do." I don't think so. The worst part was how nonchalant they acted about how badly they screwed up my construction schedule. e Dr

Bathtub refinishing

Over time, the bathtub can begin to show signs of wear with stains, scratches, a dull finish or other ugly marks. Bathtub refinishing is an option that can return a bathtub or shower enclosure to like-new appearance.

OK - terminology issue here. The "shower pan" is a collection liner than underlies the shower floor itself, and is designed (if built and plumbed right) to trap any leakage from the shower floor and route it to the same floor drain pipe. Example image here, copper in this case -

It sounds like your are saying the shower floor or base unit failed - likely a fiberglass or plastic shower, which commonly fail due to incomplete support under them. This can be repaired if fiberglass, but is not usually done unless just microcracking, as it is hard to find an expert - usually you have to have a car body fiberglass specialist or a surfboard repair expert do it, and the color will not match perfectly unless you get a new gelcoat over the entire base unit. Cost about $300-500, ASSUMING the material can be repaired - true fiberglass can, thermoplastic can sometimes be welded but anyone's guess how long it will last without cracking again, plastics like PVC can rarely be fixed so they will hold someone standing on them. Any sort of repair is likely to crack again, because you have done nothing to remove the cause of the cracking which is standing on a base that is not fully supported over its full extent. Some cheepo or desperate plumbers try injecting non-pressuring type expanding foam underneath to improve the support - this does a great job of supporting it but unfortunately supports mold, so starts stinking in short order as a rule.

The normal fix is to remove and replace it, because once it is out there is no sense in putting a damaged one back in for the small increment in cost. Removing it means taking the shower wall liners or the bottom row or two of tile out so you can get the new base unit into place (because they overlap it), then replacing them. So, the $3000 range indicated is indicative of this type of job, which typically runs from a very low of around $1500-2000 for an identical base unit, to more typically $3-5,000 depending on whether a shower enclosure or tile walls. Of course, when the new one is put in, it is CRITICAL that it be fully supported - this means rubbing plumbers rouge or similar marking substance on the bottom, test fitting it, and then lifting it out and checking that all the stiffener ribs and support pads made contact with the pan, and making adjusments as necessary until it has full contact, then standing in it and rocking back and forth to check for any points not making full contat and fixing them.

The $10,000 plus numbers you got must have been for entire shower replacement down to the joists and studs, and the $30,000 range number would be typical for a full bathroom remodel with new shower or shower/tub and doors and surround, wall finishes, vanity, sink, toilet, and flooring and door.

I have just had my bathroom remodeled and it looks great. I had consultations with 3 different companies but in the end I went with
Georgetown Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
. They listened to what I wanted and what my budget was (not very big) and worked with that.
The bathroom now looks awesome. It is a small bathroom and I really wasn’t expecting too much but they managed to put in a tub even on my budget! It used pretty tired and dated and not a place I wanted to spend too much time but now I am quite happy to soak in the tub for hours on end.
I would recommend these guys to anyone, they work with you to give you the result that you want and they offer a warranty which was a big plus for me as I had a small budget and have had trouble before with other tradespeople who have done less than stellar work.

This tub had been refinished about 6 years ago, but the spray attachment (heavy) had been accidentally dropped in the bottom of the tub and chipped the area around the drain.

came on time, got right to work, and within two hours the tub looked beautiful and everything was cleaned. I fully recommend this company for any tub repairs. Very professional and friendly.

Georgetown Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
is professional and obviously cares a lot about his work. He brought in a lot of equipment, so things were pretty cluttered in my hall and entranceway for a couple of days, and there were the inevitable dings and smudges on those walls. The only conceived negative about this company is their pricing, but to tell the truth I did not comparison shop, because this company had come highly recommended, so I had nothing to compare their fees with. Also, the smell is pretty bad and took several days to completely leave the house....work was done in dead of winter, so I had to limit the window opening. And one should know, in advance, there are the plumbing fees of having the toilet and sink removed from the bathroom and then re-installed once the glazing is dry.

This company is as top notch as it gets. Truly an A+ company.
Georgetown Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
is the owner of the company and is truly a gem. This is the second time we have used him (on different houses) to refinish bathtubs and the work is perfection! We love him and will use him again and again. He really takes his time to prepare the tub, which makes all the difference. The finish is beautiful. He is also a joy to deal with. He is honest, sincere, trustworthy and professional. He is also very friendly. He goes above and beyond in explaining his process, and will answer all your questions about what needs to be done and why. Each time we used him, he carefully refinished the tubs with attention to detail. We have 2 rent houses and had him refinish the tubs in both houses. We were thrilled with the results. If you are looking for someone to refinish your tubs or showers,

So refreshing to receive such excellent service, from start to finish.
Georgetown Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
was recommended to us by two different people and we were not disappointed. We were able to schedule an appointment pretty quickly for our tub resurfacing.
Georgetown Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
came exactly when he said he would, explained the whole process, finished exactly when he said he would and was even willing to deal with our neurotic dog. He told us about the non-slip coating which we decided to add at the last minute.
When we got home, we wouldn't have even know a contractor was there except for the smell (which we expected). Our tub went from dirty, etched and dingy to looking like brand new. We would recommend the company to anyone.

I bought a coupon on Angie's List for $275 to refinish a tub. Did I read the FINE PRINT? Nooooooooo. I read the highlighted print on the confirmation email. I didn't bother to read the contract. I didn't realize that $275 is only for tubs that had never been refinished before. Workman shows up on time, I show him the tub, I point out it had been refinished before-- he blanches and says that it will cost me an additional $______ (can't remember... $125 or something?) to strip the tub before refinishing. He looks puzzled and chagrined, because the company's schedulers are trained to make sure that customers understand this ahead of time so that there aren't any surprises or accusations of "
Georgetown Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
and switch." So was it my bad or did I get a new scheduler-in-training who didn't alert me to the issue of previously refinished tubs costing more than the coupon value? I remember the scheduler going over a number of issues to prepare for the refinishing, i.e. the issue of pets, to which I responded-- "yes, I remember-- when we used to have cats we had to lock them away in a room while the tub was being refinished." In other words, I let the scheduler know we had done this before. That was the time to say-- "Wait, did you say this tub has already been refinished once before? That costs an additional $XXX to strip it, not just the coupon price." I don't recall the scheduler saying anything about it at all.
There was this awkward stalemate, so the worker got me the owner on the phone, who was horrified that this situation happened. He works with the staff to make sure that pricing and add-ons are absolutely transparent and is determined not to have these situations arise.
Solution: the worker recommended I NOT refinish the tub that I had planned to refinish, because-- he said-- that tub was really in pretty good shape (a few nicks here & there from dropped hand-held shower head, and such, but basically the finish is sound-- no peeling). Instead, I should consider refinishing the other tub in the house-- a small one in the guest bathroom, which was stained from water pooling in an area where it was not draining properly. The worker said he could level that area for an additional $85, and the owner agreed to honor that price even though the worker spent HOURS fine tuning it.
That tub looks great now. Drains well. The smell lasted over 2 weeks. I was pleased that both the business owner and his worker did their best to make up for this misunderstanding, in order to ensure that I would be happy.
