"Setting up the appointment was easy. I informed Mr.
this was my first time having a tub glazed so I asked several questions. I was displeased" that Mr. or Mrs.
or their son who did the work failed to point out the important detail that a bathmat could not be used post glazing. Not only did they fail to mention it but the information was not clearly worded and the last point in their small typed warranty information. When large sections of my tub peeled off I called and they asked me if I used a bathmat to which I honestly answered "yes". Mrs.
told me that using a bathmat means I broke the warranty and they could come fix it but I would need to pay for it and her husband would call me back to setup the appointment. Then when Mr.
finally called me back (after 2 more weeks of my tub peeling more and more each day) he started the call by asking me in a stern
"don't you think you should take some reasonability for this issue?!?!" I had not said more than a hello and I was not challenging the cost of $150 to pay for the fix. I agreed to pay the cost to fix the tub since it was part of the warranty. I suggested to Mr.
that since this is a common problem (his wife's words) he make it clear to new customers that you are not able to use a bathmat following a tub reglaze. Finally when the tub was fixed I had to ask Mrs.
to send me something that clearly states what cleaners can/can't be used. In the flyer she sent me the first point in BOLD type said no bathmats. I asked why this wasn't sent to me prior to the service to which I never received a response. In the end Mr.
only charged me $75 (not $150) to fix the tub but this whole thing could have been avoided with better communication. Unfortunately I would not recommend this company based on their lack of clear or prompt communication and their defensive customer service approach.

"The shower/tub area in the main bathroom was in terrible condition. For at least 10 years I tried to find someone to repair it before it deteriorated to this extent." Finally, this summer I was determined to get it repaired and decided to check on Angie’s List if there were vendors who could perform the job. After reading reviews on several bath companies, I decided BathFitter (Roseville location) was experienced handling similar situations and had good customer reviews. Since I waited so long, I now opted for a tub to shower only conversion rather than just repair or replace a bathtub and repair the shower area because it is more common now, provides an age in place bathroom alternative, and no longer seems a deterrent to selling a home. I called BathFitter BFU 176 (Roseville) on 7/20/15 and expressed some of my concerns about the existing condition and desire for a tub to shower only conversion.
assured me they had dealt with other bathrooms that were in bad shape and that they do the type of conversions I wanted. She scheduled a home meeting with a representative for 7/23/15. The day prior to the meeting I appreciated a confirmation call from BathFitter. BathFitter estimator
explained their system, options, time frame and answered queries I raised about the process and options. He, too, reassured me that they handled showers in bad condition with satisfactory results. I was impressed with the BathFitter products and their system and that their workers are employees rather than contractors. I appreciate that one worker sees the job through from start to finish which is more expedient and efficient than a parade of contractors each performing a part of the job.
was experienced in construction and knowledgeably explained the process whereas other companies with whom I have used for house projects had estimators whose background was sales and they could not answer questions other than cost related issues. BathFitter was scheduled 5-7 weeks out but in the meantime they sent me a helpful list of things to do prior to the shower installation. Removing pictures from the wall, for example, might not have occurred to me. Also, they asked homeowners to clear space in either the garage or basement in case of bad weather. The suggestions assisted the homeowner and installer in making the experience go more smoothly. As part of the shower installation the bathroom window was replaced by a vendor recommended by BathFitter on 8/11/15 and it went well. On 8/13/15 I called BathFitter to notify them this step was completed and to discuss tentative dates for the shower installation. We discussed some option dates and
said she would call me back to schedule when my products came in. On 8/18/15
called to schedule the installation. We agreed on 8/24 and 8/25/15. She answered questions I had about the process and time involved. On 8/21/15 BathFitter called to remind me. Both days
, the installer, arrived promptly and within two days transformed an old, rotting shower stall into a lovely, modern one. Taking out the old tub and having new fixtures and new walls makes it look like an entirely different space.
has a positive, can do attitude which made me confident that the job would be done well. Even when he left his supplies overnight, they were orderly and unobtrusive. He is detail oriented yet cognizant of the overall project. It is amazing what a difference two days made. One thing I had not anticipated was that some debris fell into the basement shower below, but
cleaned it up and repaired a nick when I mentioned it. It is always awkward having workers in one’s home, but
’s pleasant, respectful manner made it more comfortable. Everyone with whom I interacted from BathFitter was professional and proficient. Their communications were appropriate and informative. From the receptionist to installer they seem to know their products and system well. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering a tub or shower remodel.

Bathtub refinishing

Over time, the bathtub can begin to show signs of wear with stains, scratches, a dull finish or other ugly marks. Bathtub refinishing is an option that can return a bathtub or shower enclosure to like-new appearance.

OK - terminology issue here. The "shower pan" is a collection liner than underlies the shower floor itself, and is designed (if built and plumbed right) to trap any leakage from the shower floor and route it to the same floor drain pipe. Example image here, copper in this case -

It sounds like your are saying the shower floor or base unit failed - likely a fiberglass or plastic shower, which commonly fail due to incomplete support under them. This can be repaired if fiberglass, but is not usually done unless just microcracking, as it is hard to find an expert - usually you have to have a car body fiberglass specialist or a surfboard repair expert do it, and the color will not match perfectly unless you get a new gelcoat over the entire base unit. Cost about $300-500, ASSUMING the material can be repaired - true fiberglass can, thermoplastic can sometimes be welded but anyone's guess how long it will last without cracking again, plastics like PVC can rarely be fixed so they will hold someone standing on them. Any sort of repair is likely to crack again, because you have done nothing to remove the cause of the cracking which is standing on a base that is not fully supported over its full extent. Some cheepo or desperate plumbers try injecting non-pressuring type expanding foam underneath to improve the support - this does a great job of supporting it but unfortunately supports mold, so starts stinking in short order as a rule.

The normal fix is to remove and replace it, because once it is out there is no sense in putting a damaged one back in for the small increment in cost. Removing it means taking the shower wall liners or the bottom row or two of tile out so you can get the new base unit into place (because they overlap it), then replacing them. So, the $3000 range indicated is indicative of this type of job, which typically runs from a very low of around $1500-2000 for an identical base unit, to more typically $3-5,000 depending on whether a shower enclosure or tile walls. Of course, when the new one is put in, it is CRITICAL that it be fully supported - this means rubbing plumbers rouge or similar marking substance on the bottom, test fitting it, and then lifting it out and checking that all the stiffener ribs and support pads made contact with the pan, and making adjusments as necessary until it has full contact, then standing in it and rocking back and forth to check for any points not making full contat and fixing them.

The $10,000 plus numbers you got must have been for entire shower replacement down to the joists and studs, and the $30,000 range number would be typical for a full bathroom remodel with new shower or shower/tub and doors and surround, wall finishes, vanity, sink, toilet, and flooring and door.

, the owner, returned our calls/emails promptly and professionally. He told us exactly what to expect and how long it would take for application and the curing process. He gave us an estimate beforehand which was well worth the finished product. He showed up on time. The surfaces had been yellowed and finish worn off. The tub and walls now look like brand new!!
He works for himself and it's obvious that he takes pride in the work he does.

The result was more than I hoped for. The serviceman was very nice, prompt and did the work in a short period of time. The problem shower was in a rental property, and he did a limited area at my request to keep the cost down. I am very happy with the results.

No finance charge and you don't pay any finance charge whatsoever and it'll be like paying cash. He ended up leaving a BIG leak that was leaking for 2 days. I looked at it and the work looked really really nice.

A little tough to make the appointment but eventually set a date. They arrived on time, were polite and professional, and did a great job. The contractor who remodeled our other bathroom took a look at their work. He took one of the cards they left and plans on recommending them to his clients who want to have their bathtubs refinished. I would also recommend them.

prompt; final product as promised; we were warned the fumes would be strong, but they stayed around longer than expected -- 3 weeks later, the tub is still off-gassing enough that I'm not comfortable take a long bath in it

Very nice gentleman. Assured us that the job would out last us! He said at least 25 years. Unfortunately, it lasted a few months. He came back out and did a touch up but the tub looks like it did when we bought the house 4 years ago. I gave him a $50 tip for coming out. He gladly accepted. So disappointed to spend a lot of money on something that didn't last. It's like the paint wore off! We used the cleaners he recommended and the old, ugly tub has returned.
