"The owner (
) was very pleasant to work with. They started work on time as promised and carried out the job quickly until finished. I am very" satisfied with their workmanship, the shingles installed were
which were of very high quality and gutters were oversized which prevented them from clogging and overfilling with heavy rains.

Wow, i aum surprised you didn't get 10 answers already with roofers say X was the best or N was the best or A was the best. In reality you are focusing on the WRONG THING!

5 estimates? Why 5? Why would you do that to yourself? Normally if you are dealing with reputable companies you don't need more than 2 estimates. I advocate to people to always get at least two estimates and if the roofers are saying something very different or if the roofers are way way way off in price, get an equalizer, get a 3rd.  Obviously if you don't trust a roofer disqualify that roofer immediately.  I beliee you have now fallen into "Analysis Paralysis" which is what happens when you have too many opions.

But back to the topic, I said you are focusing on the wrong thing. Why did I say that? Because you can take the best shingle in the world and if installed wrong is compeltely garbage. i can take the worst shingle, known to fail, and if installed properly will last some ammount of time. So you should focus on the roofer, not the product. The roofer is more important and a good quality roofer will only want to install good quality product.

The roof is a system comprised of many components, not just the shingles. You have the water proofing underlayment such as ice shield, the water resistant underlayments such as felt. You have the shingles, the ventilation and the flashing details. All of these things add up to equal one roof. Neglect one and your roof is doomed to fail.

But the roof is more than just product it is detail, know how and heart. Heart? yes heart. It takes the utmost CARING the utmost DESIRE to want to install a good roof. It's hard work and easy to fall into the train of thought as to do what's easier, instead of what's faster.  Faster and easier seldom ever equals better. At the end of the day you ened a roofer that cares about your roof.

So what product is best? That's hard to say. Each manufacturer has multiple plants and it seems each plant puts out varying levels of quality. I will tell you in my area Atlast is known as a cheap commodity shingle. I have Tamko Heritage on my house but I stopped using it because I was having seal failue issues and at the time they offered no contractor certification program, but I hear they started up one. Ownes corning is a decent product backed by a great company. I don't install very many OC's though. I primarily install CertainTeed Landmark shingles and my feeling is that they are the best on the market in my area. I'm sure others will disagree with me.

But don't miss the point, the roofer is more important than the shingle.

I appreciate the fact that with homeowners like you who want to beat the insurance co out of deductibles, so then my rates and every other homeowners rates can also go up just to save you.....Thanks for NOTHING..[8o|]

Any roofer worth using should be able to do the roof with NO MONEY DOWN.

The only scenario I would ask for a deposit is on a crazy odd ball shingle that had to be special ordered.

?
The question was, Can it be done? The answer is yes. The real question is "Should" it be done? The answer is, no, not unless it is an emergency.   But also let's clarify winter, because we are having a pretty mild winter, so there's kinda not a problem this year so far. I'll refrence "below freezing" from this point forward.

As a certified and licensed roofing contractor, my reputation is on the line. I debate this topic quite often with other roofing contractors who seem to care more about profit than a job well done.  Well, I can tell you from past experience having been a professional roofer for 14 years as of the time of this posting, that the chance for failure increases exponentionally when installed below freezing.  It's better just not to risk it.

Personally I will not, unless absolutely necessary and the customer signs a disclaimer of limited liability, install a roof below freezing and really really want to install the roof at 40 or above. The shingles need to seal, and will not seal unless they warm to about 70 degrees F ambient temprature. This does not mean it needs to be 70 outside, because the shingles will warm from the sun.

So what can be done to install the roof below freezing? Well first, the roof should not be gun nailed below freezing. This is because the shingles become brittle and it's easier to "blow through" with your nails. It's also harder to regulate air pressure when it is cold, I speculate because of barometric pressures, but I am just guessing.  Therefore the roof should be hand nailed. This takes more time. Furthermore since the seal strips will not seal, they must be manually sealed with proper compatible adhesives. This will also take more time, and more material. I once spoke with a roofer in Alaska who builds tents around the houses he is working on and covers them with tarps and heats with propane heaters.  Now that takes real time!    The question is, are you prepared to pay for this extra time? Can you wait a few more weeks?

initially stopped in for the estimation. Very courteous, estimation was preformed promptly and had an estimate within couple of days. Was very open with changes and advised recommendations. Once selected to go with CSR, work started within 4 days. Crew was very good to work with and got all the work completed in 3 days. very professional, clean up was done well. We also had gutters replaced (CSR provided arrangement through 3rd party contractor) work timing needed to be changed the day prior but CSR handled the communication and gutter replacement was done without any issues. Follow up review & check-up was done thoroughly Certainly recommend CSR to anyone that queries in regards to roof work.
Great group of staffs at CSR. Thanks guys.

This is the second time we've used
Fort Scott Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
for a roof repair. The first time was about a year ago when a tree limb from a neighbor's tree came straight down like a spear through the roof of a rental property we own. The damage to the roof was actually pretty minimal, but it penetrated through the ceiling of a closet. Someone else came out to remove the limb and tarp the hole which took all of 15 minutes. For that they charged us $400 and gave us a sky-high estimate for the repair. We called RS based on a recommendation from a friend. He came out and repaired the roof as well as the internal damage for not much more than what the other company charged us $400 for. This time we had a leak in the other unit of the duplex on the other side of the peak of the roof during all the thunder storms we've had recently. RS came out the same day we called and fixed it that day. The problem was actually a bit more extensive this time...due to sheeting and roofing being improperly installed 115 years ago and warping as a result. He walked the entire roof fixing any areas that looked questionable as well as cleaning off the roof for me. They've always been very prompt and friendly to deal with. They do what is necessary to both fix the current problem and avoid future issues, but have never recommended any unnecessary work. Twice in a row now they have offered the best price and we have had no problem with the work they have done.

The work completed by
Fort Scott Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was done perfectly and efficiently. It took three days from start to finish and we were very happy with the final product. We did have a bit of a hiccup with the company which was handled in a very professional manner.
The original salesman arrived and sat down with us for at least an hour, going over options and styles. After we made our choices, he told us the work would begin in two weeks, but it actually started almost a month later. He also said new mesh covers were included, but upon completion of the work, we were informed that they were not. We were a bit upset because of this, but the owner was extremely professional and went above and beyond what we expected in order to make it right. The salesman was fired because of this incident and the company provided the mesh, despite it not being in the contract and, as an apology, they replaced our gutters, which we had not expected at all.
At first, we were upset. However, the owner became involved immediately. He called us regularly to follow up on the job and personally visited us twice to apologize. He said he would do whatever he could to make things right and he definitely did that. He went above and beyond what we would have expected from the company and because of his professionalism and dedication to his clients, we would recommend

to anyone who needs a high quality roof with a true guarantee from an honest company.

They were INCREDIBLE. When I moved into this house fifteen years ago the roof had needed to be replaced. There was haggling over price, it took three days, and eventually the worst of the worst happened: the roofing tiles were defective after only ten years. They curled and chipped, but fortunately there were no leaks. But moss was growing underneath some of them, I found piecse of roof in my garden, and I lived in fear of ice dams. Flash forward to

, 2015. My house is now for sale, with this defective roof totally turning buyers off, causing me to

. In one day they swooped in and took care of business. There was a glitch at the end when one of the existing boards in the roof had split while nailing the roofing tile down. It wasn't discovered until after the work was done and the crew was cleaning up to go home at the end of an intensive day. Their apparent motto was, "we won't leave until you are satisfied with the job." They immediately rectified the situation by replacing the existing roofing board with a new one. This involved lifting up the newly placed roofing tiles and replacing them once the new board was put into place. It was unthinkable to this crew to leave before every detail was attended to, and I was completely satisfied with their work. I was not asked to pay a dime until I was completely satisfied with the job. Not a shrub was damaged, the yard looked immaculate when they left, and I sold my house the VERY NEXT DAY. It doesn't get better than that.

wasn't the lowest, but was very reasonable and they upgraded the shingle at no additional cost which clinched the deal.

estimated the job and supervised the work. He was very professional and went way above and beyond to make sure that we were pleased with the work. We signed the contract on 10/29/14. In the contract we stipulated that the work had to be done before 11/28 because we wanted to make sure that the shingles would be put down before the temperature dropped below 40 degrees. Unfortunately, due to constant rains and a record cold during November, it was not possible to do the job before the end of the year. In December, we left for the winter.
Fort Scott Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
assured me that this was not a problem and when we returned, they would be ready to do the job. He called in April and let us know that he would put us on the schedule as soon as it was convenient for us. They started the job in May. They showed up on time. The work was excellent, and the cleanup was superb. No additional charges were required. On the second and final day of the job, my wife fell ill and was rushed to the hospital.
Fort Scott Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
told me to take a week to let things calm down before meeting with him to do a walk-through and pay the balance of the bill.
In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a professional quality roofing job at a reasonable cost. Moreover, this company has demonstrated a customer-focused approach that is certainly above and beyond what most companies are willing to provide.

was willing to talk with our insurance company on our behalf. He was able to show them damage they originally said did not exist, so they covered more than they were originally going to cover. He was very flexible with my schedule, too. I told him his crew overlooked one nail that flattened my tire and he was visibly disappointed and offered to compensate us, which we declined. We will call them again if we ever need roof work.

M&J Roofing was very courteous, fast, professional, and responsive throughout our entire project.
