Learn how claims affect your car insurance rates.
Are you taking advantage of the discounts your insurance provider offers? Here's how to go about making sure you're getting the savings you deserve.
Is getting auto, home and other types of insurance through the same carrier the best value? We asked the experts to help you decide.
First, call your insurance company and tell them you do not want any proceeds paid to the contractor under your policy as you are not going with them. This way they can not collect money on your behalf. Insurance will typically have you sign a form for release of funds anyway but this is a good extra step to make sure your signature isn't forged. Second, call the contractor and tell them you will not be needing their services afterall. Did your husband pay a deposit? If so it may be non-refundable. Then follow up with a certified letter.
An email as well doesn't hurt but some states don't yet recognize email as a form of communication for legally binding documentation. This may have changed and I'm sure more states do recognize them as I haven't followed that topic elsewhere as much as I used to. The contractor's office should be local. A sure fire way to ensure they got the message is to deliver the letter to the office of the contractor and have someone at the office sign a duplicate stating it has been recieved and read. There's no arguing whether they received it or not by doing that.
Hopefully you've learned your lesson about high pressure sales techniques and storm chasers looking for a quick buck. Some people find out a much harder way. While these guys may be legitimate you should always do your homework on a contractor before signing the contract. Unless you have water running out of the house and the work has to be done on the spot it's not so much of an emergency that it can't wait until the next day.

If you plan to do business with Mr.
their roofs replaced. One of the contractors came over and inspected our roof
and told us we had hail damage. We called our insurance company, who sent over
a claims adjuster who said we had NO damage. Three more neighbors had roofs
replaced. American Dream Home Improvements did the home across the street last
month. He inspected our roof and took pix of the damage. We called the
insurance company back and they sent out another adjuster who agreed there
indeed was damage. But, now the insurance company says they don't ever remember
someone coming out the first time and a claim being filed, so they are only
willing to pay for half the amount of our roof. This is not right. If they had
affirmed the damage the first time, we would have had a new roof then, instead
of waiting until now. We never just paid half of our homeowners insurance
premiums, so we would like more than half a roof. I think we are being taken
advantage of by American Family Insurance and need some help, please.
We have repeatedly asked them to reconsider, provided our
recollection of when their adjuster came out the first time, and told them we
had no interest in
I would like American Family to replace our roof in full.
Someone in their agency did not formally file a claim the first time we
reported the damage. We trusted them to do what was necessary. I didn't think
we had to call to follow up on their record-keeping.
We terminated our policies (all of them: homeowners, condo,
3 autos, a recreational vehicle, an umbrella policy, and personal belongings
riders) a few months ago because we have been dissatisfied with not having any
repair authorized on our roof and always having little or no response when
trying to reach our agent.
