"When you make contact and discuss the matter of euthanasia, Dr.

As in many areas and states the cost for a vet to come to the home for euthanasia is $400 - $500 so I did not hesitate asking the price. They will also see dogs. Many years ago, I worked in healthcare in a major city in the mid west and
and
remind me so much of the very bright 'take charge' well coordinated ICU team. It was important my cat did not have fear, panic or awareness prior to his euthanasia. Tranquilizing drugs were delivered 2 weeks prior and were given by me 4 hours before the appointment.

arrived and it was done in 5 minutes. It went exactly how I wished - no suggestions for improvement. 6 Months ago the cat at age 12 began to have problems with balance and swallowing. It was all too clear he had a serious non curable or treatable problem in the area of neurology. As he was not in pain and did not seem to mind his gait was off I did not seek help for him. He was happy, groomed himself, still dominated the other 2 cats. I modified his diet by pouring a gravy mix made with strained baby food meat and water over his dry organic grain free food because of his swallowing difficulties and engineered a ramp so he could easily get into the litter box. A few weeks ago his health took a quick decline as he had occasional tremors, loss of appetite and weight,
of interest in grooming himself and periods of exhaustion. It was time. This cat along with the other two I still have were rescued by my daughter during her brief journey with drugs a decade ago from drug
. Even with the abuse they suffered at ages 1 to 3 years, after the adjustment and bond of trust with me, I have found these cats to be some of the better pets ( not for small children) and I have had cats for 45 years.

"The surgeon, Dr.
, and the surgical technicians were very professional and personable. All were very kind to my dog and were available to answer any questions" I had. They remained in contact with me the day of the surgery and were willing to spend time explaining the results. The incision was very neatly done and healed well. Throughout the entire procedure, from pre-op exam to removal of stitches, all were friendly, and interactive with the dog, putting her and me at ease. I am very pleased and would use their services again if needed.

"Within 2 days, he was too sick to move and went to another vet. The assessment and bloodwork given by the second vet was that our dog did not have CHF, and no scans were ever done" by the original vet to confirm that he had this condition. Moreover, the dog was also not in renal failure as DAAH stated. After a massive bill from the new vet (to
out CHF, it was determined that new renal damage has occured as a byproduct of the high dosage of lasix from the fist vet. After a 4 overnight stay, and several thousand dollar bill, he is doing ok. When asked how this could have happened from original vet, no details were provided; just "I'm sorry". I'm not going back to this
as it nearly cost my dog his life this time.

Angie's Answers

?

Hi

The first answer is pretty thorough but I would like to add a few points.

First.. the type of food you are feeding your dog may be the key.  If you are using a food that is grain, rice or corn based in the first three ingredients, please change to a food that is meat or chicken based.  Many dogs are allergic to grain, rice, wheat and corn and these things are used as primary ingredients in many well known, name brand dog foods.  Secondly, all treats that have these ingredients should be cut out.  It takes weeks to months before a food change can show results so you must be patient.  Jumping from one food to another will be counter-productive.

Some dogs are so allergic to flea or other insect bites that one or two bites can cause a severe reaction.  Once the itching/scratching cycle begins, it is hard to stop it.  Benadryl is good but I suggest liquid form.  You can get it inexpensively at one of the dollar stores.  The pills take time to break down in the digestive system so you get better and faster results with the liquid. One tsp= 5cc and most dogs of average size can tolerate that much and more if the dog is a larger breed.

Allergy testing is very expensive and most dogs will test positive to some things.  That does not mean that the itching is coming from those things as many things in the environment can trigger positive test results.  Breaking the cycle of itching is primary and that can be done with prednisone ( short term and last resort after benadryl and bathing), allergy shots( same deal, last resort after easier methods).   This spring and summer have been particularly hard, weather-wise.

Good luck!

After you search for the company, you should get the "no results" page. Scroll down just a little bit, and you'll see a button and a link that say "Add this provider." Click on that to add them to the List! Thanks for the great question.
?
I'm really sorry! It looks like we made some site changes I hadn't noticed before and it made things just a little more confusing (for me, too!). We'll have to look into this to make it easier.
In the meantime, here's what you do:
1) Look for the Submit a Report button. It's yellow and on the right-hand side of the page.
2) Search for the animal cancer care clinic you're looking for. The search box should be inside a yellow bar.
3) You should see a list of potential matches, but on top of those, there should be "add a provider to the List" text in blue, which is where you'll click to get to the add page.

Let me know if you have any trouble. Sorry, again, for this being so confusing.

I have been a client of this vet clinic for most of the nine years I have lived here in St. Marys. This experience today was, by far, the most disappointing. I have found it necessary to humanely euthanize several of my pets (I am a senior citizen) over the course of my life, but never at this vet. This time, it was my beloved, twelve-year-old, rescued American Eskimo mix. This euthanasia was emotionally exhausting, and upsetting -- which none of the others were. Dr.
Lebanon Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
, for some unknown reason, did not sedate my dog before injecting the pentobarbital. I have never seen such an omission happen before! My dog began screaming and struggling, whereupon
Lebanon Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
removed the I.V. (still half full) and, after a moment or two, attempted to try again. By now, the dog was struggling more than before, shreiking, and clearly frightened -- desperately trying to escape the grip of the assistant. With a bit of an "
Lebanon Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
" to her voice,
Lebanon Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
demanded, "talk to him!" (As if this were going to ameliorate the disaster, I thought to myself, sickened.) When the needle was inserted the second time, I just wanted this whole horrendous scene to be over with -- it was awful... Finally, the last drops of the pentobarb were in my dog's bloodstream, and he started to slip away. I was too upset to even articulate my dismay and anger, so simply remained a few moments stroking my dog, then paid and left. I will most definitely be choosing a new vet for the future. This was inexcusable, given the experience this vet has -- my heart aches that my dog had to experience totally unnecessary fear and pain in the last moments of his life. He deserved better.

I have spent all of my life in human healthcare, as an EMT, a nurse, and the last 20 years as a nurse anesthetist, so I have a good understanding of what was happening to my dog. Dr.
Lebanon Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
understood, and asked if I wanted to be with him while he was put to sleep. My husband and I both wanted to be present (I have never believed in allowing the sick to die alone). I knew my dog was nearly dead when we brought him in, but he had not been sick before that day, it was a shock, and hard to accept.
I cannot tell you how appreciative I was of the exceptional and compassionate care my animal (and my family) received yesterday.
Even though we all knew my
Lebanon Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
was dying, the staff covered him with a blanket, petted and consoled him while giving him oxygen as the doctor looked for a
Lebanon Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
. We had nearly lost a palpable pulse before the IV was inserted, but once the injection was finished they even did an EKG to be sure he was gone, because we could not feel a pulse.
After we came home I looked up the website of this emergency vet, and I must say the credentials of the veterinarians at that center are quite impressive. We still have one lab mix 10 year old at home, and if we should ever need emergency care, I will definitely rush to this center.
Thank you for making the difficult task of saying goodbye to a friend more bearable, and thank you for relieving whatever suffering my poor dog was experiencing.

Dr

Everyone is very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. They like cats and that is very important to me. The doctor spends time explaining what is going on and is willing to listen and answer questions. When you call for an appointment you can usually get in that day or the next day. I will continue to take my cat to this provider.
