"I had 4 new slider windows installed on my house today. The entire process went smoothly. The sales rep was prompt, courteous and professional. I thought that" the price compared with what I have paid in the past from other companies was excellent. The workers were on time and they worked hard to remove a system of window that was original to my house. They did a wonderful job installing the new windows and cleaned up afterwards. They even put my curtains back up and reinstalled the brackets for my blinds! What service! I just ordered another window to be installed for the front of my house. I would highly recommend them. Professional from start to finish.

"The workers were punctual and very professional. The work was performed in a timely manner with minimal household disruption. My reservations as to having windows" replaced in the winter were quickly forgotten with the expertise of this team. After work completion, the site was left in excellent condition. I would highly recommend this contractor.

Dear Angie: I recently replaced my single-pane windows with a dual-pane style. However, noise from outside seems louder than before. Why would this be? – Dezell, San Luis Obispo, California

Angie's Answers

?

Hello - I hope my answer will help point you in the right direction.

The reason you're having a hard time getting clear information is because there are hundreds of companies saying their window is the best. There are probably millions of different features you can choose to have for your windows and in price ranges from $169-$1200 (per double-hung window).

I've been in the business for 15 years and have seen many different window products from many different dealers and manufacturers. This all comes down to: "what's important for you and your home?" If you want a strong warranty from a company who has a full-time service department to give you piece of mind and service your windows should needs be, or are you looking at only those companies who offer true wood interior windows that you can paint or stain to match the home decor? Whatever is your hot-button, then that's where you want to start.

I would recommend you first choose how you want your new windows to look. Wood-interior with vinyl clad is only offered by certain companies, while there is a vinyl woodgrain finish to give you similar results without the maintenance. If you're only looking for a white interior and don't want the maintenance, a fiberglass or vinyl window would be the best choice from what is offered in the market today (vinyl will be less expensive - not necessarily cheaper quality). If you are going to change out a window to a french door and a door to a window, then you WILL NEED to find a contractor with some carpentry experience. Some companies will tell you upfront that they do not handle those sorts of remodeling projects due to the complexity and time it would take to get it complete.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to personally help you with your project as we work in the New England Area. However, if you wish to talk further, please feel free to email me at: sven@ritewindow.com and I'll be happy to let you know our prices for what we offer so you can compare and hopefully find a similar company to do the work for you near the Austin area.

Cheers!

?

Get your roofer back out there.  Course of shingles above the window need to be pulled, self sealing flashing, drip caps, and counter and step flashing are going to be required here.

This is a flashing issue as the window connects to the mansard roof surface.

Condensation and a leak are two different and very noticeably different (i.e. volume) things.

Flashing and roofing on Mansards can be tricky but is sounds very much like a roofing issue.

?

+1

Much easier to scratch and typically not as good a finished quality as compared to glass.

Benefits are the resistance to breakage as mentioned by LCD.  Any glazing shop should be able to re-create that panel.

?

For a broken window (or leaking seal in multi-pane unit), for a standard roughly 2x3 foot window, can run from low of about $75-125 for single pane to more like $200-300 range for triple pane, depending on construction and any special ultraviolet or heat reflective coatings. If a removeable window unit, of course cheaper to remove it and take to replacement glass place then have them come out, measure glass size, order glass unit, then come back to install.

If taking in yourself, commonly they can do single-pane in an hour or two, but count on a week or so typically for sealed double or triple pane unit to come in, so you will have to seal the opening in the interim. That is an advantage of having them come out - they measure and determine type of unit on first visit and can seal with tape and plastic sheeting (if you have not already done that), then come back with new unit and install a week or two down the road - but you are not stuck with an opening in the wall for a long time.

?

Thermal numbers look okay when looking at the NFRC.

Do you have any other data on them?  Air infiltration, Design Pressure, Visible Transmittance, and Condensation Resistance are all good evaluators.

http://www.mercuryexcelum.com/images/customer-files/Advantage.pdf

Air infiltration rate is way high at 0.21.

It may look nice in person but the performance numbers are below average.

I obtained three bids from 'A' rated retrofit window suppliers for installation of a patio door and bedroom window using Milgard Tuscany series.
The price range was about 20% with Pelican providing the best bid for the work. After
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
came and confirmed the measurements and his price, I placed the order with Pelican. Once the hardware delivery schedule was available Pelican provided an install date of Feb.25 at 9am.
The office called a day ahead to confirm that the installers would be there as scheduled. The morning of Feb 25 they arrived and proceeded with the work. Both installers,
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
and
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
, were professional, efficient, and courteous. They removed the old aluminum window and door and completed installation of the new vinyl units in a very neat manner. It took about 3-1/2 hours and they left the condo as neat as they found it.
I was very pleased with their reliability, timeliness, work quality and their price. I would recommend

to anyone.

The parked in my neighbor's space and they were rude to her when she mentioned something about it.
They left trash in her yard.
They left trash and nails in my yard.
More recently, my neighbor had her roof inspected and was told that the people who installed my roof did not do the edges correctly where it meets her roof and now she needs hers repaired (something about alternating/overlapping roof shingles).
I imagine it's just a matter of time before my neighbor on the other side of me finds out about the

The factory made one window about 10" too short, so it had to be reordered requiring another month to get it in and installed. The installer grossly under-estimated how long it would take to rip out the old windows and install the new ones, so they were caulking after dark. They did tell me that if I noticed problems with the caulking job they come and redo the it. They did recaulk all of the windows when they finally installed the last window. I was horrified by the mess the mess they made when they ripped out the old windows and storm windows, however, the did a great job of cleaning up. All in all I was pleased with their work.

The install team was scheduled to install over a 4-5 day period. The first issue was the install was not going to operate as
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
indicated. He indicated the install would work on a room at a time (or 2 rooms at a time if two crews were used). The install didn't go that way - they did the front of the house - thus opening multiple rooms to the elements but not completing half those rooms (those rooms with windows on the side or back of the house).
More importantly the morning after the install we noticed their new windows exhibited the same condensation problem as the old windows (some of those old windows were still in the same room as the new windows so side-by-side comparison was easy). The person heading up the install crew explained that condensation had very little to do with windows. It was primarily driven by humidity inside the house and given we had a whole-house humidifier we should turn it down. He suggested some places to look on line and sure enough there were charts showing how humidity levels had to be reduced as temperatures went down. We talked and everyone agreed the best approach was to go 3 days with humidity down but without moving forward on the install. Sure enough the next few days (one of which went to negative digits) we saw no condensation on the old or the new.
At this point we felt that
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
had misrepresnted the windows as being the solution to our problem. They weren't. The zero-cost turn down of our humidifier was the solution. We spoke with
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
- their Director of Operations. We explained that the windows that were sold on the promise of being a fix to the problem had no affect on the problem - they suffered from the same problem. Until we addressed the root cause. We felt that we were mislead into buying $24,000 worth of windows we didn't need.
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
's response was we signed the contract and were legally obligated to the full contract. We tried suggesting finishing only the $12,000 worth of installs we had already paid for (had to pay 1/2 down). They refused. Bottom line - the product did not do what the salesman said it would do. And, in fact, it became evident after talking with the install team and researching that the whole problem was a humidifier issue not a window issue at all. Given that
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
basically sells the same products as other retailers in the area it would be impossible to recommend them as a service provider. We were obviously very dismayed to be mislead into spending $24,000 that didn't need to be spent and didn't address our problem in the slightest.
We are currently waiting for them to notify us of when they will resume the installation - an installation we don't want or need but were naive enough to believe the sales person.

My appointment was scheduled for 3:00 pm their Representative arrived a little early which was beneficial, I had lots of errands to run and the fact that he arrived early was a pleasant surprise. The Representative's name was
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
, he was polite, courteous and very professional but most important he was HONEST.
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
looked at the window and informed me that even though the company is no longer in existence that provided the sales and installation of my windows, I was still able to have my windows replaced for free because I had a lifetime warranty with the Mlgard windows. I assumed that my warranty was void because the company was no longer in business.
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
told me how to get into contact with Milgard manufacturers and how to proceed with free replacement of my windows.
I found it refreshing to find such honesty with this individual. I asked
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
for his card and I plan on recommending
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
to friends and should I need any service in the future, I will definitely seek
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
to help assist with my needs.

Contacted
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
Rite to get an estimate on replacing two larger, outdated single pane crank windows in our living room and kitchen.
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
came out at the agreed time and measured the window openings and explained the type of windows that he would use for the replacement, double paned, energy efficient sliders with vinyl frames. He gave the installation estimate of several weeks as they were extremely busy at that time. The installation time was not a deciding factor for us. They actually called roughly a week earlier than we planned on getting it done and we setup the install. His two employees showed up exactly when they said that they would. They were extremely professional and personable and had both of the old windows removed and the new ones installed within 2 hours. They took great pains to clean up after themselves when the job was completed. The windows have made a huge difference in the comfort downstairs in the home. They look good and fit like a glove in the previous window spaces. The price was a bit lower than other estimates that we had received from some general contractors and there was no change to the initial estimate when it came time to pay. With the professionalism that was displayed by
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
and his two workers that did the install, to the price and finished quality of the product, I would not hesitate to recommend at least considering them the next time that you need windows.

Most of the installations went smoothly. The men were professional, on time and cleaned up after themselves. We did discover that when the change was made from a sliding glass door to a french door that the building code changed as far as the electrical. A french door installation required the installation of another light inside the house for an entry light.
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
and
Fort Wayne Window Installers Provider Name Locked
worked with me to acquire an electrician and work through the permitting so it went as smoothly as it could. The only issue was the city losing the application which delayed the final approval, but eventually the whole project was approved.
After a few months, one of the windows needed to be serviced. The response was quick and efficient.
