's SWEEPING FAILURE to SERVE and RESPECT its PATIENT Note: The following is based on contemporaneous notes I took during" every contact with clinic, including all four meetings between podiatrist Dr.
and his patient, my father. In every communication, my father and I have been polite and respectful, focusing solely on the overwhelming evidence that supports our claim. On 10/21/14, my father and I met Dr.
of the Pinnacle clinic in C*** Rapids, seeking relief for toe pain. On 2/3/15, doc recommended customized shoe inserts, hopeful that they would alleviate pain under my father's big toe and second toe when he walks, and on the ball of his foot. We ordered inserts and received them on 3/30, but they offered no perceivable benefit so we returned to doc on 4/21. < Dr.
told us then that the inserts do NOT offer aid to the toes and that he had informed us of this during our previous meeting. His latter claim is false and if he had done so, we logically would not have ordered the inserts. < Dr.
declined to honor a written and verbal guarantee to provide free adjustments for up to six months, saying he does so only for rear-foot problems. He said he was unaware of the guarantee, even though it's written twice on a form with his name and was repeated to us by his assistant
. < We requested a full credit for the cost of the inserts, and Dr.
said he would call me with an answer late afternoon on 4/28. He never did so, nor did he respond to my six subsequent voice messages. < In a certified letter we received on 4/30, Dr.
banned my father, a 92-year-old man, from all Pinnacle clinics. He offered no explanation for his decision. < In same letter, doc stated he WOULD offer free adjustments of the inserts - after clearly saying in our final meeting a week before that he would not. In a conflicting passage, he also wrote he would see my father only if there was an emergency within the next thirty days. On 4/24, I escalated my concerns to
, vice president of clinic. He said he foresaw no problem granting the credit for the shoe inserts, but first needed to approve it with
, president of the clinic. But instead of calling me back, as promised,
inexplicably delegated the doctor to do so. < Dr.
said that after
's consultation with
, Pinnacle had decided to not offer a credit. Their decision was made without any review or explanation - and without knowledge of my full complaint (I had given
only a brief summary). The following morning, on 4/25, I sent an e-mail to
and to
, fully detailing my concerns. Absent a response, I sent e-mails four more times (to each of them) over the next five business days. In addition, over the same time period, I left multiple voice messages for
, and for operations manager
. <
offered NO response to a combined 10 e-mails, and 9 voice messages. On 5/4, I called (763 545-7545) Pinnacle's central office in
and spoke to rep
. I clearly explained to her the depth of my concern and asked to speak to either
. She told me to hold a moment and promised to return, but did not. I then called the same phone number three more times and received no answer. I promptly called the
clinic and spoke to
, who promised to help but interrupted my comment and transferred me to an unknown voice mail. I called again and spoke to
, who said she couldn't hear me and disconnected the phone. I called one more time and spoke to
, who immediately disconnected the phone. Two days later, on 5/6, I again called Pinnacle's central office and spoke to
. I made the same request and told her I was recording the call (my legal right). She put me on hold but again, never returned. I called back twice, without an answer, then called the
clinic and spoke to
again, who disconnected the phone. < On eleven separate occasions, Pinnacle phone reps either dropped my call, put me on hold and never returned, or did not answer when I called back. < In summary, on 4/25, I e-mailed our full complaint to vp
and president
about the actions of Dr.
and our valid request for a credit. Almost two months have passed, during which I have countlessly attempted to contact the clinic, and
has offered NO response. <
has not only remained silent to the substance of our concerns, it has engaged in an organized effort to avoid contact with me. < At the same time it has "frozen out" its patient, Pinnacle has sought and received money for the shoe inserts and, amazingly, double-billed for the product. In a bill we received on 5/22/15, Pinnacle noted it had already received $480 from insurance (improperly), and demanded my father pay the remaining amount. All medical providers have an ethical duty to treat their patients with fairness and dignity. When that doesn't happen, it's important to hold them accountable in the hope that remedies are made. This review, I hope, will lead to such action or at minimum, help readers make informed and smart decisions about their medical care.

"All appointments necessary for the shoes were very pleasant. We were seen in a timely manner and Mr
was very professional and knowledgeable" in his field. The shoes are well made and of superior quality. We were informed of what our insurance company would cover and what we could expect to pay out-of-pocket before the order was made. It was a very pleasant experience.

Prosthetics and orthotics

Prosthetics are a type of artificial unit or device that replaces a missing body part. A prosthetic can help improve your quality of life and ability to complete day-to-day tasks and enhance self-esteem.

Sounds like you should be pursuing a disability claim.  Also, you could speak to your previous doctor frankly about your concerns.
Have they made orthotics for your shoes that distribute your weight better?

Prosthetic And Orthotic reviews in Carmel

First, the professional title on Angies List should be corrected.
Carmel Prosthetics Provider Name Locked
is not a Dr. He is an orthotist. He makes braces, but he is not a medical doctor.
Carmel Prosthetics Provider Name Locked
is good at making a particular type of brace for scoliosis, and he has a national reputation for this. He is gentle and nice with children. He is not so good with follow-up and with communication in general regarding booking future appointments and monitoring long-term progress.
Carmel Prosthetics Provider Name Locked
recently left Orthotic Solutions to start a new company, and as he put it, his business has had "growing pains." We had one appointment with him at his new company, and when we arrived they seemed surprised to see us. His front office did a terrible job at resolving an insurance related issue. His new business does not participate with any insurance providers. This makes it very very expensive to do business there. Based on advice of his pervious billing department, we switched insurance so his services would be in-network. Once we realized that his services would be out-of-network, we tried to figure out what the brace would actually cost us, and it was a black box. His office wanted to charge us our (high) deductible and call it even, but we couldn't figure out his much of that would actually be credited to our in-network deductible. They communicated conflicting information to us for about 4 weeks before we determined that we can no longer use his services. For example, they said they would pursue an authorization for in-network coverage, then they said they weren't really able to do that. They said they were applying for insurance participation, then weeks later said that wasn't part of "their new business model." Ultimately, we had to switch to a new orthotist because the financial arrangements were unclear and because I was not willing to book services then see what they cost after the fact after submitting a claim. Their advice to me was to use Care Credit (a medical credit card) to pay for services or to file an appeal with my insurance company after the fact. Neither of these is a reasonable solution. Patients need to know up front what their financial responsibility is, and his office would not provide that to me.
Bottom line is that although he is a good brace maker and a nice person, his office has difficulty communicating clearly and working to resolve insurance issues.
- Cynthia C.

Every other doctor I've been to have told me they can't make orthotics for dress shoes, that they could only make them for sports shoes, but he said he makes them all the time. I got in pretty quickly to see him. I had to go back to get a little adjustment and I got in the same day for that. I didn't have to wait a bit for my appointment time.

Carmel Prosthetics Provider Name Locked
.com provided a completely different experience.
Carmel Prosthetics Provider Name Locked
figured out what was wrong with my feet, explained what was happening and how the ezWalker would correct those issues.

The process was amazing.
Carmel Prosthetics Provider Name Locked
did the impressions of my feet and had my new orthotics to me about a week later. After a month of breaking them in, my feet feel much better.

I still fight with some heel pains, but when I remember to wear my anterior night splint -- that helps my feet from hurting after a long day of walking.

Carmel Prosthetics Provider Name Locked
has done an excellent job of following up, asking questions about how my gate has improved and to ask what if any issues I've experienced.

She truly took the time to figure out what options were best for my feet.

I have had

on line. I met with her and she was extremely knowledgeable. I was most impressed with the fact that she made the

Not only did it go well - but it always goes well. I must come here when I have orthotics made. They make them well and they fit me well, giving me all of the attention I need.

Carmel Prosthetics Provider Name Locked
are simply wonderful and so very helpful. I am grateful that they exist!

The doctor was great but the front desk does not tell the truth.
BE WARNED about their Billing Department and what they say is covered and NOT covered by insurance. When I first spoke to the group I was not certain I would have the orthotics done because I could not afford it if it was not covered. Then a month after my appointment I received a call from the office to tell me that my insurance would cover it 100%.
A bill arrived yesterday for $420. UNBELIEVABLE.
I give the doctor 4 stars.
I give the billing/appointment department -1 stars
In today's high unemployment and insurance coding problems we all have to be very careful in what we tell patients on the phone.
The fact is you can NOT tell someone on the phone that something is 100% covered by insurance and then send a bill for an outrageous amount. UNACCEPTABLE Medical Billing Practices.
- Annette S.

My husband has been to the provider at least four times for corrected shoes. On the first visit they took a mold of his foot and let him pick out the shoe he would like to wear. Several weeks later they call for him to come in the office for a fitting of his shoes. They always fit just perfect. If there is a slight problem they can take care of it at that time and you won't have to make a return visit. The woman that does the mold and is in charge of getting the necessary information is very informative. She checks your old shoes to get an understanding as to what is taking place. My husband ran his shoes over on the side so she inserted extra protection on that side to keep that from happening. Works great. My grown son has ulcers from being a diabetic. Once again they took a mold and made allowances in his shoe so he would not be walking on the big toe where the ulcer is. This solved the problem.
We are all very pleased with this provided. The ladies in the office are very sweet and bend over backwards to help in any way they can. You will be very pleased and will continue to use them also.
- Margaret K.

I really tried to follow the plan presented to me, but it involved changing inserts multiple times daily and having to use just the one pair of shoes the inserts would fit into, the shoes I purchased at the store. They were not ones I could both work and exercise in, and I just couldn't afford to buy a second pair. I wound up paying over 600 dollars for shoes and inserts. I suppose you could say that I didn't enjoy the promised results of the product because I couldn't follow the program. Even when I used the least painful inserts for the required amounts each day, they wouldn't fit into my regular shoes, and they hurt so badly that I couldn't walk for long distances in them either. After a few weeks of trying them, my feet, ankles, legs, and back had begun to hurt so badly at night that I had to stop using them. When I told my chiropractor, weeks later, about my experience with them, he told me that I had probably just done additional damage to my feet, that "in theory" the concept of this product doesn't even make sense. So if anyone wants to buy these three sets of inserts, I'll sell them to you at half the cost! Dr.
Carmel Prosthetics Provider Name Locked
's inserts and get pads did far more for me than this product.
