Day 1: He showed up at 8am, on time, and there was one additional person on his crew. The contractor came in and broke up the tile in the entrance way and removed it and prepped for installing new tile. This took up most of the first day. He also started to cut the top plate and trim studs of the pass-through window to lower and level the opening. He did not finish it on day 1. During his estimate, I informed him that I had tried the different threshold weather strippings offered at my local home improvement stores and none of them worked on the door. After taking the door off the hinges and looking at the it, he assured me he knew where to get the type of threshold and weather stripping for my door. He subsequently went to the same stores I did (2 of the big box retailers in my area) attempting to find one that worked. He had to cut some of them to size before attempting to secure them on the door. They did not work and he was unable to return the items to the stores causing wasted money and time. He left at approximately 3pm to "avoid traffic" because his home was located roughly 45 minutes in good traffic from mine.
Day 2: He showed up around 9am this day, which was late. After asking me again that morning of which pattern I wanted, he started to tile the entrance way. I was upstairs letting him do his job when I had to come downstairs for something I noticed that the pattern was not the one we discussed. He had to go back and remove several tiles and reset them in the proper brick pattern. He also kept the tile about 1/4-1/2 inch off the wall for some reason. I questioned that and he responded with "shoot, I forgot we are putting the trim up afterwards." At least the mortar was not dry and he was able to reset the tile... again. He did not use a wet saw to cut the tiles because the tiles were straight cuts. He used a manual tile cutter to make all the cuts which occasionally cracked off more than he wanted. That caused more waste and expense.
The pass-through gave him troubles from day one. It wasn't level. The piece of wood he was attempting to use for the top plate was twisted causing one end to be higher than the other end. He worked at it for another hour or so before stopping that job and moving on to another job. He was able to find weather stipping for the entry door and installed that but gave up on finding a threshold sweep for the door. As I was upstairs I could hear him talking with his partner about how nothing is going right on this job. That is an inappropriate conversation to have in the homeowners home. He did however get the door closers installed and brought me some supplies and the stock bi-fold door that he indicated he would. Again, he left around 3pm. After he left, I noticed that the tile was not level. Some corners dipped down. The wood bull nose stair tread that was installed around the entrance way (entrance way is elevated) had multiple nail holes.
Day 3: Well, there never was one. I called repeatedly. I text messaged and emailed as well asking when is a good time for him to come back to finish the job. I got excuse after excuse. After about about 6 weeks of me complaining and attempting to get ahold of him, I had to threaten legal action on him if I didn't get an invoice showing that job was not finished as the contract was being canceled and I owed $0.00. I finally received that and decided to finish the job on my own.

Before the project started, I ask
(contractor) and
(project manager) if I required a permit. I was told only 'structural' jobs required permits and this was not considered structrual. When I went to fix the mess, I found out that a permit had been required. I trusted my contractor to give me accurate information.
did not enclose the construction area in any way. There was concrete dust and chunks throughout the entire house which damaged my furnace. He also cut through the duct work in two places. With the type of ducts I had, they had to be supported during excavation or they could cause cave-ins through out the entire system. Cave-in were cause in 3 other areas.
did not take any precautions.
removed the toilet he did not cap the standpipe. My area flooded and I wound up with raw sewage in the construction area which then followed the pipe line into the crawl space.
I was in contact with
though out and finally stopped the project until we could get some resolution. Her solution was to ask if have
put up plastic at that point and to hire a cleaning crew at the end of the project would I let the project continue. I gave her an itemized list of what needed to be done before the project could resume.
came and pick up his tools and left. No debris pickup was ever done.
stopped communicating with me. I called their insurance agent (Auto Owners Insurance Co.) Several weeks later I got cc:'d on a letter from their insurance carrier to Avondale stating that
Remodeling Services
had subcontracted the work out to Avondale Customs, Inc. and that they had a hold-harmless clause with them. So they claimed they were not responsible. This was the first time I found out
was a subcontractor. Avondale's insurance company, Country Financial, was cc:'d on the letter and I contacted them. They claim I didn't have a contract with Avondale Customs, Inc so they were not responsible and"In, addition, please be advised that our insured's policy exlcudes his work, therefore, any property damage you are claiming that is related to work performed by our insured is excluded by the policy." that Avondale didn't have insurance to cover this type of claim. I went back to
's insurance company and was told they would not talk to me unless I hired an attorney and had the attorney contact them. I have tried diligently to find an attorney to handle this, but so far no luck because their physical location is out of state even though they are listed on Cyberdrive Illnois.
Their website states "3. Are you Insured and Bonded?
Yes, we are, and this is extremely important because it protects you,
the homeowner. If a craftsman is not insured or bonded, you could be
responsible for workers compensation and medical costs if they were to
get hurt on your premises."
Email I received from
with the quote states "-we are fully insured,"
When I hired another contractor to fix the mess, I found out that
had only left a 12' space for the shower door to open. Even if I wasn't handicapped, that is an unrealistic opening. Obviously
had no idea what he was doing throughout the project.
I have gotten most of the money I paid them back. However, when I went to return the supplies purchased, over $300 of merchandizing was missing and I did not get back my deposits. I spent $21,508 fixing the damages they did. ALL of the damages could have been avoided if
had taken proper precautions and not taken a job he did not have the expertise to do..
I am a senior on social security. That $21,508 was a big chunk of my savings.

. I asked the man who provides lawn service/snow removal for me if he knew of a local builder or carpenter who specialized in deck building. I had originally gotten his name from Angie’s List and he lives in my hometown. I try to use hometown people whenever I can rather than a large company. He had also done some landscaping for me that I was very pleased with, so I was pretty sure that I could rely on him for a recommendation. He gave me a business card for
Streamwood Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
. I searched the Internet for information on
Streamwood Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and found an article in “Deck Magazine” that Rich (the owner) had written. It said he had been in business for 26 years. I called
Streamwood Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and made an appointment with Rich. He lives in my hometown, and I was happy that he was able to come to my house in the evening, rather than me having to take time off from work. He brought several photo albums with lots of pictures of decks, which gave me a good idea of the size and scope of previous decks he had built. I had decided that I wanted to use Trex composite for my deck. Rich even met me at the building supplies dealer, so that I could actually see the different grades and colors of Trex before I made my final choice. He wasn’t satisfied with the materials that the dealer had in stock (old, dusty, scratched, etc.), so he had them order new materials for my deck. There was a delay with the new shipment, and Rich kept me informed of the delivery status. He also acquired all of the necessary permits from the village and kept me updated as each inspection was completed. He explained things to me in detail and made several suggestions that I appreciated. Everything was cleaned up at the end of every day. Rich pays attention to every detail and he is a perfectionist. The quality of his work is superb and I highly recommend him.

Replacement of my original kitchen cabinets and the other work included in the contract, went very well, from the time I sat down to look at the samples of cabinets available to the cost estimation (definitely within my budget) to do the entire project. I was informed that all work to be completed would take approximately a week, which is exactly what occurred. Total attention was given to me regarding any concerns I had from the biggest to the smallest detail. My new cabinets were ordered and within a week shipment was dropped off and stored in my garage, and several days the project was underway. The two workmen on my job arrived each day at the specified time and put in a full days work. Their work performance was very good, and they were very attentive to any of my concerns. The job went smoothly, with a only few minor problems occurring; these were solved in a timely and workmanship like manner. Cleanup within the house and any other works areas used for preparation was completed to my satisfaction within several days of completion of the project. I am very pleased with the outcome of the project and the cost. My kitchen cabinets, new medicine cabinet and all the painting painting looks great! Have received many compliments on the quality of work, not only on my cabinets, but on my prior projects (the new siding and replacement of windows and remodeling of two bathrooms). All work still looks great and is functioning well, and I would definitely put this company on top of my list for any future projects.

The job went really well.

made 2 trips out to our house during the evenings to quote the work, the additional trip was after we had decided to remodel the second bathroom. As described earlier the bath/shower tile took some additional time but
Streamwood Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
made sure this was done right. We also added some additional work after the project started which was priced reasonably and did not add much time to the project. We have two large crazy dogs and

and his crew was great with them, even letting them in and out of the house and wiping their feet as it was raining during much of the project....this alone added so much added value to the project since we didn't have to board them while we were at work. We will probably be hiring

again to do some painting in the near future.

Overall an excellent experience. I called the owner and told him what I needed. He picked up the toilet for me, but I already had the faucet and light fixtures.

came early and introduced himself and even ran to pick up extra supplies we didn't know we needed until we began the process.

was very professional and did an excellent job. All garbage was removed and the bathroom cleaned. I never would have known they were there. I was very happy with the work that was done. It was nice to have dependable, reliable and personable people working in my home.

We are very pleased with Design 1st workmanship. Our experience with them was wonderful; we had heard a lot of horror stories through family and friends regarding other contractors leaving the job and coming back in two weeks or a month and not getting calls back. We got none of that! Design 1st did a wonderful job for us and we never once worried about them not showing up when they said they would; they where very punctual and precise about the work they did on our beautiful home.

We had done a lot of research before beginning our project, but to be perfectly honest, we really wouldn't have had to do a lot of what we had done had we met with
Streamwood Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
first. At first we wanted to first talk to many designers/contractors though email and had a long list of very specific questions we wanted answered. To our surprise (based on several other responses we had received),
Streamwood Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
patiently answered our questions one after the other.
Streamwood Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
was a pleasure to meet and do business with. He showed us a vast array of his high quality work which ranged from

8x8 kitchens to the entire interior of an extremely large, custom built house.
Streamwood Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
was very patient and professional in all of our dealings with him. In the end, we decided it was too much money to invest in a house we were planning on leaving soon. We'd highly recommend
Streamwood Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
for any project but especially for any large project.

I called about a follow up and they were nasty. Quoted a price of $22 - $26 a square foot and told me to use that as a barometer for planning. I would never do business with these people. Would not suggest using this company. Very unprofessional.
