Roofing Reviews in Schaumburg

I wish I could say this went well, but I am still waiting for Mr.
to take responsibility for his mistakes. The job turned into a "wish I'd have picked someone else" when it could easily have been a "great job".
Because I had heard from others, while researching contractors, that the Village of
was VERY strict about the requirement that ice shield extend up the roof from the eave to a point 24" inside the inside face of the drywall; I mentioned to
while we walked around the house that they would be strictly enforcing that code. In fact, I mentioned that I had heard that they expected you to run it 6' from the eave (which is two rows of shield. He nodded and dismissed my information. I doubt that he will take that approach again....
What follows sounds complicated, but it is
math and a roofer should have these numbers printed in his head. Ice Shield comes in 36" rolls. Take an average house with an 8/12 pitch roof (8' rise over a 12' run). A little math will tell you that your 36" roll will cover 30" laterally from the eave as the roof rises 20" from the eave to the top of your shield. If you know that 24" of that must be inside your inside wall, that leaves you 6" from the inside of the drywall to the end of the eave. Most houses are built with 2x4 studs (3 1/2" deep, actually). Adding drywall and exterior sheathing takes you to 4 1/2". Add an inch for siding (brick is more), and you can see that if you have any soffit at all (that's the horizontal part from the
board or siding across to the facia (which is the outside board on the eave where the gutter might be hung)) you are going to come up short.
My house is built with 2x6 walls, is brick, and has 1/2"
and fascia boards and a 5 1/2" soffit. That gives you a run of 39" from the face of the fascia board, past the soffit,
, brick, sheathing, stud, and drywall. The math tells you that you have to go 47" up from the
of the fascia to get up the roof to a point 24" inside the drywall. That's 11" more than one width of shielding.
All this is a long way of saying that
knew that one strip was not legal. He ignored me and thought he could get away with it, I guess he usually does. To make matters worse, he specified the underlayment, Rhinoroof synthetic. It's a bit better than the usual 15# felt which is commonly used.
Unfortunately, that is not the product which he ordered, and which his crew picked up (they did get the correct shingles). He ordered the regular felt. I will call this simply an error, and not an attempt to deliver a cheaper product; we all make mistakes.
I did not feel that I needed to supervise the job, I had hired a recommended contractor and, really, how hard is it to replace a roof? I know now that I should have. By the time I went outside to see how it was going, I saw that they were only using one strip of ice sheathing, and that they were using the wrong underlayment. At that point, things went into the toilet. The inspector showed up later in the day (
had forgotten to call and set an appointment for earlier so that the shield could be inspected without tearing off the new shingles). When the inspector saw the shield was short, he ordered all the shingles at that level to be torn off, and said he'd be back the next day. No shield was to be covered.
This story is too long. The short version is:
1. The guy who starts making ice shield in a 50" roll is going to make a lot of money.
2. You can put down two strips of 36" shield, or you can do some cutting and get maybe three strips per roll to add to the single roll for the required coverage.
ordered and installed the wrong sheathing on half the roof. (He did bring a better sheathing for the other half AFTER I told the crew they were using the wrong material. Only the homeowner would catch this, as the inspector does not know what specifications are in the contract.) I choose not to have half of the roof torn off AGAIN to put down the contracted sheathing.
tried to get away cheap with one strip of ice sheath.
5. These two mistakes made a one day job a three day job, and half the house has a cheaper grade of sheathing that we contracted for.
After all that, I offered to pay with a credit card, and
then informed me that he accepts only checks (and, I assume, cash). Most contractors know that folks use credit cards for points, and they take them. There is NO specification in the
contract as to forms of payment, therefore he has no contractual right to demand check or cash only. As to his failure to perform the contract with the correct sheathing, he feels that the superior sheathing on half the house makes up for the cheap sheathing on the other half, and he is whining about his loss for tearing off shingles and installing an "extra"
of ice shield. He has offered to cut $100 off the contract price "if I feel like I need a discount".
feels little responsibility for:
1. Attempting to avoid the building code.
2. Putting on the wrong underlayment.
3. Having to tear off and replace the roof while he was replacing the roof.
has stated that it was his mistake to order the wrong underlayment. Clearly making an error there is much more benign than the alternative.
The roof is done, it is done well, and it should have been a great job all around. Unfortunately,
is trying to make me feel guilty about taking $100 off the bill for all of his mistakes. I don't. If he were the kind of contractor I could recommend, it never would have come up; he would have taken full responsibility for his errors and corrected the bill accordingly without my having to bring up all his mistakes. Instead, the problem was the building inspector for demanding code compliance; and I should be pleased with the roof covered in two different underlayments.
is a nice guy, I don't think he tried to slip in the cheap underlayment on purpose, and I wish him well.
I will not do business with him again.

They came quickly for an estimate and fixed our roof and put in the new gutters at a reasonable cost. They were polite, helpful and efficient. I trust them and would do business with them again. I am late in getting this review done but wanted to post it because they deserve it.

Provider was extremely knowledgeable and honest with his assessment. We didn't know what the problem was and if we needed to fix anything. He gave us detailed information and recommended that we not invest the money with a roof repair at this time. Also note, as he was in the area, he was able to come within two hours of my call! All around excellent. I would not hesitate to use him!

The roof leaked when snow and ice built up over the winter in 2010, so I called
Schaumburg Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
Schaumburg Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
came out the same day. I waited to write this review to make sure the problem is fixed, and it is. With all the snow and ice this year, it has been a good test. My ceiling shows no sign of a leak at all. I had 2 others roofers out to see what they recommended, and neither seemed to recommend anything but re-roof the leaking section. This didn't make a lot of sense to me as the roof isn't all that old, and leaking occurred only after a heavy snow.

was the only one to recommend removing the siding where the roof meets the side of the house to install an ice and water shield. It was pricy, but it really got the job done. I have sense had

back to discuss gutter issues, and again his advice seemed appropriate. He is my definite resource on roof issues.

Awful experience. We had actually called this company out the year before for a roof estimate and they cancelled. Since we didn't end up doing anything that year, we called again the following year for an estimate.

was very irritable, was rude to his wife who was with him, and after going on our roof, he got into his car without coming back to the house. My husband followed him to see what he thought about the roof job, and he just said that he couldn't do our roof and quickly drove away. I have no clue WHY he felt he couldn't do our roof, as it was nothing out of the ordinary, and so we felt he would not have been an easy person to work with.
We would NEVER recommend him to anybody.

Spent a good amount of time discussing the roof, though when I asked how many square feet our roof was he reacted in such a way to make me feel like I had no business asking that question. I had a list of what I would like included in the contract and said I would email that so that it could be included in the quote. 4 days later, on October 3, 2013, I sent the email and never received a response; not an email, follow up phone call, etc. Would not recommend.

The next morning
Schaumburg Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was back out and put a double wall vent extension on the furnace flue and assured me that this would fix the problem. He showed me the extension prior to the installation and I was convinced that this was a quality piece.

Schaumburg Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
told me upfront that they are problem solvers; anything that goes on the roof, is attached to the roof, or goes through the roof they can identify the problem, provide solutions and fix the problem. I was extremely impressed with his promptness, courtesy and professionalism. There was also no pressure or attempt at a hard sell for anything that I didn't need.

Great job and a great experience. Highly recommend!

We contacted

after two neighbors highly recommended them to us.

, the owner, called me 1-2 days later. This was a bit later than I would have liked but it was in their peak season so I hope it was because they were busy. They came out a week or so later to give us an estimate that also included some information on how to choose a roof and why an ice guard is important. It was a nice touch!

They came back last weekend to do the roofing job. I asked them to also apply for the village work permit which they gladly did.

came out with his crew about 7am on the morning of the job and they got straight to work. The crew were very polite, neat and hard working. I was concerned that the clean-up job after the work would not be done as neat as I liked but I was impressed that they did a great job cleaning up and used a magnet on wheels to make sure all of the roofing nails were out of the yard before they left. I went up on the roof after they left to inspect it and everything looked neat and in order, at least to my untrained eye.

Overall, I am very impressed with my interaction and business dealings with
Schaumburg Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
and would recommend them to a friend, family or neighbor. The pricing was a bit on the higher side but I didn't mind due to the high quality of workmanship.

My elderly parents had been in their home for 40 years and it had been neglected for the last 15 years. My father was a "do it yourself " kind of homeowner and many of the he made were not done correctly. As he got older some of the contractors he hired had taken advantage of him and and done a poor or incomplete job. When they moved to our home it was time to get their home ready to sell. The thought of this was overwhelming and something I had dreaded for years. Everything needed to be done.

handled the entire job start to finish. They repaired 3 leaking foundation cracks, replaced plumbing that had rusted through, repaired a leaking skylight that what improperly installed, re-insulated the home, expanded and remodeled the kitchen and remodeled 2 baths. They converted one bath tub to a walk in shower, replaced the interior and exterior doors and roof, installed new electric service to bring it up to code, installed flooring and painted the interior of the home. They obtained village permits, helped me to select fixtures and cabinets, explained the entire process and updated me on costs as the job progressed. The owner

kept in contact during the entire job and kept things running smoothly and on time. He accompanied me to vendors he works with and that he knew had good prices, products and service. Co owner,
