Business Description: Dr. Khammar grew up in New Jersey and earned his bachelor's degree in French and Biology at Rutgers University in 1992. He graduated from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1996. After an internship in Internal Medicine, he completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Doheny Eye Institute of The University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 2000. Dr. Khammar then pursued fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. Prior to arriving in Illinois, Dr. Khammar was an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center / Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Insititute, and he is the current Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Advocate Christ Medical Center. Dr. Khammar practices at The Eye Specialists Center, a multi-doctor, full-service ophthalmology practice serving both children and adults, with four locations in Chicagoland (Chicago Ridge, Orland Park, Hinsdale) and Northwest Indiana (Munster). Patient appointments are available from Monday to Saturday, including evening and same-day visits. The Eye Specialists Center is the evolution of the practice started in 1957 by Karl E. Ticho, MD and has grown to include three additional partners: (Dr. Karl’s son) Benjamin H. Ticho, MD, Jonathan Buka, MD and Alexander J. Khammar, MD. They are all board-certified ophthalmologists, sometimes known as "Eye MDs". The practice also includes several other ocular specialists (with expertise in neuro-ophthalmology, oculoplastics, vitreoretinal disease, and pediatric optometry), and has an in-house optical department for patients’ convenience. The doctors at The Eye Specialists Center strive not only to provide the highest quality eye care in an ethical, efficient and compassionate manner, but to remain at the forefront of their profession. The doctors serve as physician leaders in their field by teaching at medical / optometric schools and academic hospitals, volunteering in the public service programs of their professional associations, and educating the general public through lectures.
