They did not know proper construction techniques, and we felt the work was ultimately dangerous and frustrating. The job is done, and it looks ok, but along the way:
* They had put in the floor cabinets by finding the lowest point in the kitchen, using that as the level for the tops, and cutting down all the other cabinets to size. That meant that our
stuck up above the counter at an unsightly height, and the dishwasher wouldn't even go in. Ultimately I had to tell them how to do it. * The had not anchored down our island. The counter top installer would not install the soapstone counters because of
of tipping, which could
our young child. They came back to anchor it but that should be fundamental. * They could not smell the gas leaking into our kitchen. I could; it was obvious. Fortunately, Nicor comes out for free and meters the room for you with this geiger-counter-like device. It smelled the gas and made quite a racket behind our
. They left a ticket indicating there was a problem, so AHW came in and fixed it. * They plastered a gas valve into the wall, which is against code. * We have a deep sink. They installed the kitchen sink plumbing drain stub-out too high (19 inches), so we cannot use a garbage disposal with our sink. Our construction-friend came into our house and recognized immediately (from the doorway), "Hey why is that stubout so high?" They should not be 19" high. * They installed the upper cabinets just fine. Our sink is in the corner of the kitchen. One day, I came home and saw that the sink was sitting at a crazy angle in relation to the upper cabinet. It looked terrible. I said, "What's going on!?" They told me our walls were crooked. Our same friend (above) came over and measured: 3' on wall 1,
. 4' on wall 2,
. Measurement between the
: Exactly 5'. Pythagoras would disagree with AHW, it seems. Anyway, it turns out that rather than putting in a 30" space for the
, they went to the first floor, measured the width of the
(which was at the end of the cabinets down there), slapped on an inch, and made the
space 32". This made one of the cabinets on our plan not fit, so they did some creative reorganizing of our cabinets. Ultimately I cajoled them into correcting the problem- again, I had to tell them that stoves are 30" wide, so that's how big to make the space- but in the course of creating the problem they had hacked up the corner cabinet face and floor a bit (the corner unit beneath the sink is not a true cabinet, it's a front and floor). Now our sink is off but it's not noticeable. * One of the upper wall cabinets started to work its way out from the wall. The cabinet was not screwed into a stud. There were some other issues but that's enough.
On the plus side, they did replace one of the cabinets that they'd improperly put in the wrong spot, but had done some cutting on it to make it unusable in the correct spot. And, they did finish the work. But they missed many basic Kitchen construction facts and were willing to leave things looking really ugly, had I not raised a fuss.

This is the second time we have used them and we love them. Last summer they built back steps, installed a fence and demoed a closet and did drywall repair in an upstairs bedroom. They are just awesome.

The front of our garage was losing headroom for a couple of years.. Two other companies offered to only replace the inside supporting beam, but we knew from looking at manuals on construction standards that these proposals were inadequate.

was recommended to us. Their proposal was more detailed than others but met the construction standards we expected. They reconstructed the entire front, including laying down new 4x4 support beams in cement to meet the village standards, as well as adding a new overhead support beam inside the garage. They removed the old, heavy 30+ wood garage doors that was long in need of replacement, as we requested. They also did some extra work to improve support that went beyond the contract without additional charges. Cleanup was excellent and efficient. They also recommend a garage door company that replaced our old door with a new modern metal one at a reasonable price. Overall, the experience was quite satisfactory and done at a reasonable price.

We bought a coupon for 4 hours of labor. The individual was asked to change out a light fixture and put together an IKEA kitchen island. The light fixture was changed out, but the light was hung by the cord and not the chain, ie the chain was longer than the electrical going into the ceiling. I fixed it...8 month pregnant with twins. The IKEA kitchen island was not finished and there was a significant amount of hardware missing from the parts completed. Approximately three hours was spent on this and it should have been completed in that amount of time. He literally left me with a box of hardware and a 2/3 completed kitchen island. I completed this as well, but needed to have help moving it into the kitchen as the piece weights about 100lb and, as I said, was 8 months pregnant. I believe one of the problems was that the man who came barley spoke English and my Spanish, which is certainly sufficient in many situations and in no way basic, contained insufficient household/construction words to get my point across well. Also, he was slow. So very, very slow.

. was the contractor for renovation work at my home. And frankly, I cannot say enough good things about this company and its team. I am generally pessimistic by nature when dealing with vendors. So not knowing anything about the company, I just assumed I’d encounter some unreasonable delays, occasional instances of shoddy work, late arrivals, over-promises and “under deliveries”. But I am happy to say that
Oak Park Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
’s project manager and crew members allayed all of my negative assumptions and made me an optimist. They are just wonderful people. One of the most valuable deliverables for me was the project manager’s unwavering integrity. He and his team exceeded my expectations in this very important area. Not only did I get excellent workmanship, but I actually looked forward to seeing the crew even though I was living in a

zone!! They were tidy, pleasant, professional and just all around great people to work with. Experience and my natural cynicism often lead me to expect little from most people in personal and business dealings. However,
Oak Park Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
team members consistently gave me the opposite experience. I feel that I not only had a great contractor, a nicely renovated home, but gained some new friends in the process. They kept their word on everything, from the smallest to the greatest! All in all, it was a wonderful experience. Even the usual

surprises that are typical of any renovation project (as seen on HGTV) were handled smoothly because of their professionalism. Many, many thanks and hats off to a great organization.

I would never recommend this contractor to anyone unless you want a headache and poor service. For my job he hired very poorly trained, poorly qualified and often surly subcontractors to do the work. The HVAC company he employed (although pleasant to work with generally) made many mistakes in installation some of which probably cannot be fixed due to the way the attic furnace was placed and installed. The humidifiers that were part of the contract never worked and they were unable to come up with a solution. In addition, the hvac company was lazy in their installation and never installed a drain

under the airconditioning coil in the attic (I guess I just have to take it on faith that there will never be a leak?) and instead of properly installing the humidifier drain line into the pvc pipe, they cut a hole in the pipe so that if there ever is a leak, we will surely have damage at the level of that hole. Did

ever supervise or review the work that was completed or repair work? No. In fact after the first day he was never on the job site except to collect checks.

was often impossible to reach and would not return phone calls in a timely fashion. The company he hired to repair floors damaged my dining room table (and he never offered to have it repaired but instead directed me to his project manager to "look at the damage"), and were generally extremely rude when I asked them to cover doorways and furniture (like the dining room table before they damaged it with varnish) with plastic when repairing/patching floor underneath radiators which were removed. They used cheap machines and did the minimum amount of work possible in fact not even finishing all of the flooring patchwork. Another subcontractor came to finish patchwork in other rooms.
From the beginning
Oak Park Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
obviously did not want to have to pull permits to do the job because he knew that then inspections would be required and possible problems would be uncovered. Therefore, despite asking him multiple times about his responsibility to get permits (as per the contract), work commenced without them and not surprisingly, the village found out and charged a fine for lack of permit (at least he paid for this). The plumber he subcontracted also was very poorly trained and caused multiple problems including an attic leak which damaged the ceiling below causing extensive repair. The plumber also for some unknown reason unplugged the ejector pump in the basement and forgot to plug it back in. Result: sewer water back up in neighboring basement bath. The plumber also did not connect the water line in the basement system and that had to be connected by the hvac company later. As if that were not enough, since
Oak Park Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
directed his crew to seal up and repair the holes in the ceiling duct work in the basement before the village inspector could come through, the inspection did not pass requiring them to rip up large sections of drywall, after which the hvac subcontractor had to install insulating tape at all the ductwork seams--which should have already been done-- and repair the drywall again (more time and frustration on my part).
Overall, we paid a lot of money for a lot of hassle, poor supervision, poor installation and a system that never completely worked as contracted and paid for (still don't have a working humidifier in either system) and now we are having to pay a lot of money to a new company to fix their many mistakes.

Oak Park Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
was terrific to work with and he and his crew did a fantastic job. We're very pleased with the results. We started with a messy, partially finished basement with a very low drop ceiling.
Oak Park Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
had great ideas about how to open it up, clean it up, and make it much more functional. They did such a great job downstairs that we contracted with them to do three other upstairs projects - refacing the fireplace and adding built in bookshelves, modernizing the kitchen by replacing the counter tops and back splash, and building another closet and hallway on our second floor.

was great at helping us make decisions about the design and materials we wanted to use. He's got a great sense of design and came to the table with lots of good ideas. His crew was efficient and professional. We ended up adding a number of smaller items to their scope as the work progressed (replacing light fixtures, adding crown moulding, fixing doors that didn't close properly, etc.). They were great about getting to those smaller jobs in the midst of the larger work scope.
We will definitely work with

again for future projects and would highly recommend him and his crew.
