"
installed a new wood shake roof for us nearly 10 years ago and did a great job. Late this spring, following some very heavy rains we discovered" some water damage to our ceiling around one of three skylights in our kitchen. I contacted
to ask them to look into resolving the problem. As I stated, the roof is nearly 10 years old, an inspection of the roof found a cracked metal flashing around the lower
of one of the skylights. Okay, here's the part that I'm impressed with, 10 years in and 3 years out of warranty, they repaired my roof, as agreed, for just the cost of the replacement flashing and so far I haven't even been billed the $50 for that. I am very pleased I chose
, good people, good workmanship the kind of people you can be confident will do right by you.

"
Keymeier took excellent care of us from start to finish. He explained everything thoroughly, was on site frequently, followed up quickly" on a few challenges, and ensured we got the professional experience and quality of work that we wanted. Although the first painter that came out was not quite up to the job, he was quickly replaced with a crew that did a fantastic job. The roofers were prompt, quick (completed a fairly large roof in a single day), and clean. The new roof looks fantastic and they left behind no mess. The gutter were replaced as quickly and professionally. As for the awnings, the ones on the house were a type of aluminum awning that are not readily available. It appeared that we were going to have to replace them with canvas, but
and the team at
searched, and were able to find replacements that were very similar to the originals. Overall, It was an enjoyable, and high quality experience. We would not hesitate to use
again or to recommend them to others.

Wow, i aum surprised you didn't get 10 answers already with roofers say X was the best or N was the best or A was the best. In reality you are focusing on the WRONG THING!

5 estimates? Why 5? Why would you do that to yourself? Normally if you are dealing with reputable companies you don't need more than 2 estimates. I advocate to people to always get at least two estimates and if the roofers are saying something very different or if the roofers are way way way off in price, get an equalizer, get a 3rd.  Obviously if you don't trust a roofer disqualify that roofer immediately.  I beliee you have now fallen into "Analysis Paralysis" which is what happens when you have too many opions.

But back to the topic, I said you are focusing on the wrong thing. Why did I say that? Because you can take the best shingle in the world and if installed wrong is compeltely garbage. i can take the worst shingle, known to fail, and if installed properly will last some ammount of time. So you should focus on the roofer, not the product. The roofer is more important and a good quality roofer will only want to install good quality product.

The roof is a system comprised of many components, not just the shingles. You have the water proofing underlayment such as ice shield, the water resistant underlayments such as felt. You have the shingles, the ventilation and the flashing details. All of these things add up to equal one roof. Neglect one and your roof is doomed to fail.

But the roof is more than just product it is detail, know how and heart. Heart? yes heart. It takes the utmost CARING the utmost DESIRE to want to install a good roof. It's hard work and easy to fall into the train of thought as to do what's easier, instead of what's faster.  Faster and easier seldom ever equals better. At the end of the day you ened a roofer that cares about your roof.

So what product is best? That's hard to say. Each manufacturer has multiple plants and it seems each plant puts out varying levels of quality. I will tell you in my area Atlast is known as a cheap commodity shingle. I have Tamko Heritage on my house but I stopped using it because I was having seal failue issues and at the time they offered no contractor certification program, but I hear they started up one. Ownes corning is a decent product backed by a great company. I don't install very many OC's though. I primarily install CertainTeed Landmark shingles and my feeling is that they are the best on the market in my area. I'm sure others will disagree with me.

But don't miss the point, the roofer is more important than the shingle.

I appreciate the fact that with homeowners like you who want to beat the insurance co out of deductibles, so then my rates and every other homeowners rates can also go up just to save you.....Thanks for NOTHING..[8o|]

Any roofer worth using should be able to do the roof with NO MONEY DOWN.

The only scenario I would ask for a deposit is on a crazy odd ball shingle that had to be special ordered.

?
The question was, Can it be done? The answer is yes. The real question is "Should" it be done? The answer is, no, not unless it is an emergency.   But also let's clarify winter, because we are having a pretty mild winter, so there's kinda not a problem this year so far. I'll refrence "below freezing" from this point forward.

As a certified and licensed roofing contractor, my reputation is on the line. I debate this topic quite often with other roofing contractors who seem to care more about profit than a job well done.  Well, I can tell you from past experience having been a professional roofer for 14 years as of the time of this posting, that the chance for failure increases exponentionally when installed below freezing.  It's better just not to risk it.

Personally I will not, unless absolutely necessary and the customer signs a disclaimer of limited liability, install a roof below freezing and really really want to install the roof at 40 or above. The shingles need to seal, and will not seal unless they warm to about 70 degrees F ambient temprature. This does not mean it needs to be 70 outside, because the shingles will warm from the sun.

So what can be done to install the roof below freezing? Well first, the roof should not be gun nailed below freezing. This is because the shingles become brittle and it's easier to "blow through" with your nails. It's also harder to regulate air pressure when it is cold, I speculate because of barometric pressures, but I am just guessing.  Therefore the roof should be hand nailed. This takes more time. Furthermore since the seal strips will not seal, they must be manually sealed with proper compatible adhesives. This will also take more time, and more material. I once spoke with a roofer in Alaska who builds tents around the houses he is working on and covers them with tarps and heats with propane heaters.  Now that takes real time!    The question is, are you prepared to pay for this extra time? Can you wait a few more weeks?

gave me a good fair price on a quality shingle. His crew showed up and started the job on time. You could count the nails as they put every shingle in place. They even worked through a rain shower to make sure we had no leaks. They cut no corners. They finished on schedule and they cleaned up in the yard as they worked. The roof looks great. I was a property claims adjuster for over 10 years and I know a good contractor when I work with one.

We called because we had a leak coming into family room on the ceiling. They promptly came, with a couple days, to inspect the roof. We bought the $99 special. When the inspector (I believe the owner) arrived he told us it would be another $99 fee since the roof was very steep. Understandable. The roof was inspected and the nail pops were fixed. No more leaks. Would use again. Very courteous, professional.

Despite the extreme heat, they completed the job in one day. There were many rotted pieces of wood under the shingles which they replaced (the reason why the kitchen was leaking from the inside). Professional and hard-working. Good work.

and another worker came by within a couple hours of calling to fix an issue left by a shoddy new roof installation last year. It was refreshing to have someone who was responsive, on time, and went above and beyond to do a good job. I'd definitely recommend and only wish we would have had the initial roof installation done with them.

Service provider was punctual, courteous and eager to please. He did eventually get to all the tasks I needed him to do and was willing to take on a variety of tasks; but benefited from my reminders and prompts. He likes to do a lot of consulting about materials and preferences, so if you're hoping for someone who can simply take the job in hand and get it done, this won't be the right handyman for you.

Although I hope my home never floods again,

was extremely helpful and managed the crisis very well. They knew exactly what to do to get the areas dry with fans and dehumidifiers, including the walls, floors, ceiling, carpeting, floorboards, etc. The house was eventually (really as quickly as possible i think) put back together with everything dry. They were also able to get the carpet pad replaced and stretched and everything went really smoothly in what could have been total chaos. It was an expensive problem to have - and i am glad i called

a timeline in which the work was to begin and to be completed and the time lines were met. The roof looks absolutely amazing!
The quality of the roof is a 1,000 times better than the roof we had put on 25 years ago. After the roof was done next came the new
siding. Just like the roof the siding looks amazing! The quality of the siding was far superior to our old siding. When all the work
was done they made sure everything was cleaned up and things that had to be moved was put back. We are very very happy with
the work and the way our home looks now. I would highly recommend

Started great-
Murphysboro Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
the person who came to do the bid was prompt, personable and professional. He took the house plans with him to help prepare the bid. After that it ended. I was to receive a call with the estimate from someone else. 1 week , nothing, called and left message. 2 weeks , nothing. Called and left another message- nothing. Next I called
Murphysboro Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
on his cell and he answered right away. Was surprised and embarrassed I had heard nothing. Promised to call the boss and call me right back. He did, but with the news the boss decided at some point not to go forward. No real explanation. He will bring the plans back. Company has high ratings- maybe if you're lucky to be selected- I wasn't and it was probably a $40,000 job. They wasted my time and precious weeks waiting to fix our roof.
