Downers Grove Carpenters Reviews

"I chose these guys because they were real people. During the estimating, they offered ways for me to cut down on some expenses, and talked to/with me, not at me. I was very comfortable with them from the start. And then it started to go downhill. There admittedly was back and forth between what we were going to do, as I was waiting for the insurance to tell us how much they would cover before I was comfortable with a final deliverable listing. After we landed on a set list of deliverables, it was a struggle to get a contract from them to agree to. They wanted to start, yet I had no contract saying what I was agreeing to be done, and how much money I was agreeing to. I also asked for a timeline for the project, and asked multiple times. This is something I never received, instead I received a payment schedule saying once this amount of work is done, you owe X. The timeline is what proved to be the biggest issue with this company. There were a few stretches where people didn't come to our house for either a few days, or sometimes a week. And this is an issue when you are either trying to plan on someone being home for when they are there, or you are leaving your house unlocked. It was difficult to say the least to get a solid understanding of when work would be done and when the project would be completed. After trying to start around mid-June, we finally finished the basement at the end of August. And I believe 100% that it would have gone longer if I had not stayed in contact with them. When the work was completed, I was asked to check it and if it was up to my liking, I should leave the final check. I marked numerous areas where there were significant paint drips, lack of paint coverage, as well as corner bead peeling away from the wall. I left a note with the final check saying that I marked areas that were not really up to the standard I thought I would be getting. I would like them to fix those areas, but would be comfortable just calling it off and I would fix the rest. They left me a note saying they would come back to fix those issues. I waited a week, and heard nothing. So I reached out and said I will just fix it. They responded saying that they in fact would come back out, and would be at our house at the start of this week. It is now Thursday, no one has come to our house nor has anyone contacted me. Story of this experience. I will just fix it myself at this point. Their work is pretty decent overall. Their communication and timeframe to finish your work is awful. I felt our house would never get done unless I just cut them off and finished it myself (which I ended up offering - payment will stop where it is and we will finish the job - this got them to respond). They are nice guys, owner and workers, but not a company I would recommend for getting work done. Just too little communication and urgency to get your project completed."
"It was a smooth job from start to finish.
Downers Grove Carpenters Provider Name Locked
and his team were a pleasure to have in the house. They were easy to communicate with and it was a job well done."
Overall, I have absolutely no complaints...only praise for the work Ed did. He kept in touch during the time (about two months) between our agreement on the job and the actual start date. He always showed up when he had said he would and did the work he had said he would do. He cleaned up every day, so that our living area was usable for the evening and early morning. He is pleasant and easy to have around."
"I selected
Downers Grove Carpenters Provider Name Locked
even though he was not listed on Angie's List based on the high regard that a very experienced realtor friend of mine has for him. I asked for and was provided a Certificate of Insurance directly from his insurance carrier to document that he carried liability and workers comp insurance. He was prompt in meeting me to inspect the home for my estimate and he faxed me the estimate in a day or two. His price was very reasonable and he and his crew completed all the work in short order. There were no problems and the work area was cleaned properly.

works by word of mouth and manages the projects himself. I would use him again in a heartbeat and I will refer my friends to him.

was prompt, courteous, gave good advice, didn't pressure us: was neat and cleaned up after job each day: did good work."
"It went great! An old door to a closet was replaced with drywall. It was done efficiently and they cleaned up nicely. The worker was very flexible with our house despite sizes and corners not being standard. Especially for the baseboards. The worker carefully measured each angle and corners so that the cuts looked good. We had a bit of trouble over the color for the baseboards, but the company was very courteous and we were able to work out an agreement."
"We contracted with Pyramid to do a complete gut/remodel of our only full bath. To say it was in bad shape is an understatement. We had had an awful experience with another contractor last year that stiffed us. We were very cautious and interviewed 6-7 outfits. We chose Pyramid for a variety of reasons - they were not the highest and they weren't the lowest. They use "allowances" (so we didn't actually pay them 12,000...every situation is different I would imagine) which I wasn't crazy about, but in the end it was very good for us as we found excellent deals on

products we picked out (knowing a

employee helps). The salesman was very detailed in all of his explanations and the processes involved and understood my paranoia in thinking everyone is a crook and not trusting anyone. They gutted entire bath, removed old cast iron tub, mortared in new tub, insulation, ceilings, exhaust fan, replace block window with double hung vinyl, installed new flooring, wall tile, floor tile, shower head with a diverter for a hand-held shower as well, vanity, top, mirror, new closet door, shelving, painting, canned lights, sconces, etc. We had
Downers Grove Carpenters Provider Name Locked
(and a helper or two on some days) handle the entire project and he was excellent. Very meticulous, detailed, NEAT, awesome tile work, he did it all. Even the painting - no other subs or anything. He was excellent at it all. When he cleaned up every day, you would never have known he had been here. He rehung our door so that we could let our cats out of the spare bedroom each night. The job took about 12 days (he worked a full weekend in there). Since the salesman disappears after the sale, it was nice to then have
Downers Grove Carpenters Provider Name Locked
, their office manager, to touch base with and he was always asking how things were going and if we were satisfied. This was partly because I was a wreck in the beginning thinking everyone was a crook. It turned out fine that the salesman disappeared - in reality he's not needed - I just was

"He called back right away after I left a message for him to do the work, he scheduled an estimate and was right on time. I hired him and we scheduled a date for installation. He is awesome, he knows his stuff and does outstanding work. I would hire him again."
"I highly recommend Ed for custom cabinetry or fine carpentry work. He was professional, easy to work with, understood what we were trying to accomplish, and we couldn't be more pleased with the quality of our new pantry and cabinet door. From the beginning, Ed worked with us to stay within our budget and offered us options to make the job more cost effective without sacrificing the quality of the finished product. Throughout the job, Ed was on schedule and communicated with us often to give us updates on his progress. He was responsive when we had questions - often answering them the same day that we called."
"They have a showroom in Westmont. Owners helpful and clear on details. I found this better than just having salesman come to the home. Started more or less as scheduled. Entire job took 2 weeks--as predicted. Only a 2 man crew for siding and 1 + person crew for door installation and finishing carpentry for a very large job. However, the siding crew was meticulous: "

" cared about customer satisfaction and took extra time over the weekend to work on details to his own satisfaction. Compared to other bids, price high, but not out of line with others. Quality of workmanship in this case made the price acceptable.
