Complaint ResolutionIf a project goes badly, Angie’s List has a complaint resolution team standing by to help you.
We requested the job be complete before winter. Signed papers in August. Paid deposit and all installments as listed in contract. Was supposed to start in September. Delayed until October due to IHI. Then another delay and another. Middle of December, they were still siding. The job was supposed to be 3-4 weeks. It took more than 6 months and we have had nothing but problems. IHI subcontracted all the work which we were not informed of. Owner was not on site, didn't inspect, supervise, check in, or follow up. Failed to communicate job details to subs which caused many errors and redo's. Wrong siding color for shakes installed. Ridge vents not installed. Skylight installed but drywall return not installed in ceiling. Middle of winter the roof started leaking due to a defective gutter heater. IHI owner accused us for not turning it on, then accused electrician. Ended up with ice dam, roof leak and interior damage. It was actually defective wire IHI installed and not the electrician. By the time it got fixed, winter was over. Really hope the gutter heaters actually work this winter. Siding buckled in 4 areas. Reported in June. Still have 3 not fixed. Has only fixed one and it took two attempts and two different people over the course more than two months. Reported roof leak on 7/4. Roof still leaks. Roofer blamed gutters. Gutters blamed roofer. Roofer came back and blamed siding. Roof still leaks. Everything inside is getting ruined. Ceiling, floor, walls and trim. IHI came today to attempt to "find the leak" and owner took hose and poured water down the chimney flooding the living room floor with water and soot all over the hardwood and carpet as well as basement. When the roof and siding was done, debris, cigarette butts and trash was everywhere. Hundreds of nails all over. In flower beds, driveway. While work was going on we reported it. However, it continued. The owner didn't believe us and came himself to finally pick up cigarette butts, nails and trash with us. There was so much he then had to have roofer come back to do the same even though they had supposedly used magnets the first time. IHI sold is on how much care they would take with our property, specifically the gardens. Dozens of cigarettes thrown in our flowers, yard and driveway. It was disgusting having to pick up someone's stinky cigarettes! When I said so, the owner said I was making a big deal out of something small. What happened to the care and clean up the contract mentioned? The roofers cracked all of our interior ceilings and some walls. We were told "of course things crack. This is normal." All 2nd floor ceilings had to be redone it was so bad. That is not normal. While IHI did take the cost of ceiling repair off the final installment, we had to coordinate the repair, remove furniture, personal items, live in the mess and stay home multiple days from work to have this done. Messy, careless, no attention to detail, poor communication, work not done on time, lack of professionalism when confronted with problems, damage or defect in workmanship. We paid $35,000 and have roof leaks we never had, defective siding, trim coming apart, interior damage and no end in sight to the nightmare.
Following the installation, he took time to explain the "workings," the safety features and even helped me to program the opener with my car.
This experience was a good one!
I showed him the broken roller and he suggested that he could solve the problem by replacing all ten rollers and lubricate the door for $90.00, which seemed extremely reasonable to me. He had the work done in less than an hour and then took the time to discuss proper maintenance with me, suggesting that I lubricate the rollers and joints every six months or so - when we change the clocks ahead or back. He suggested that I use clear silicone spray rather than WD-40 or oil and then showed me how and where to lubricate the rollers and other areas on the door.
I had originally bought the door in 2006 through Lowe's without doing my homework and had been very unhappy afterward with the transaction for both price and especially the service from their subcontractor who was a no-show for one appointment and cancelled another at the last minute. Most irritating, when I complained to Lowe's at the time, they didn't seem to care.
When the door door broke recently, I went to Lowe's first despite the earlier problems because I assumed that they would know the manufacturer and product best since they had sold it. To be honest, I was leery when Lowe's said they would send someone out to look it over, fearing that the subcontractor might try to push me into buying a new door or some other unnecessary repair. In fact, I joined Angie's List after setting the appointment and, but I read through the garage door services I became more comfortable and confident that this would not be a serious problem and that I could call many other repair people if this meeting proved unsatisfactory.
However, I said earlier,
I will use
I would recommend the company and use them again
1. They fit me into their busy schedule much sooner than I had hoped.
2. They arrived right on time.
3. They contacted me prior to the visit to confirm time and location.
5. They started work immediately and completed the job very quickly.
6. They fully explained what they had done and gave me information as to when I should have the doors checked in the future and what to look for that might indicate service or replacement is needed (the doors and mechanisms are 12 years old and normal life expectancy is 10 - 15 years, depending on usage).
7. There was absolutely no "up-sell BS" or pressure to buy anything. They came to do only what was needed.
In the future, when I need garage door service and/or replacement, I will definitely turn to
