Aurora Remodeling Contractors Reviews
An overall quality experience
After we decided upon the overall vision, we worked with
Bottom line, you will find design/remodeling firms out there that are cheaper. I can tell you from experience, Design First is the way to go. They are honest, creative, and will give you something even better than you dreamed
p.s. Design First worked on a few other houses in the neighborhood, and each one is better than the next. I especially love what they did to a friends master bath. I have no idea how
Is it harder to work with? Not for a professional installer. Installers need to work faster because of the epoxy set up time which requires at least two helpers... This is why I wanted to hire a professional. I used it in a powder room without any issued but didn't feel comfortable with the master bath.
Why epoxy? Because it's bullet proof, no staining and REALLY easy to keep clean. If you are considering a large glass door or steam shower you had better pick epoxy or you will be sorry. Downside for epoxy? None.
Quite frankly, their bid of $8,692 for a 8'3" X 7'2" bath and a shower stall was extremely high. Remember, this was for the regular grout. Note, their price didn't include the tile. It did include the shower door and heated floor. The shower door allowance was for $850.
We ended up selecting a different contractor that works for a flooring store. They are expert epoxy installers who by the way didn't charge any extra labor for the epoxy. The price ended up being lower but I don't shop merely on price. I want top pf the line materials and workmanship-- otherwise I could do it myself.
The contractor offers a 5 year warranty while the store we selected provides a Lifetime Warranty. Of course, it makes a difference that the store we selected has been in business for almost 70 years. We choose a top of the line shower door with clear shield for $1,013 from a separate company."
After calling and asking for moisture readings they then came back 4 days later and determined they were borderline so removed 2 ft of drywall and insulation.
Sprayed basement with antimicrobial treatment to keep mold from from growing.
Charged for work in bathroom they did not do. - later changed on bill (Trust factor now at zero)
Charged for drilling walls AND for cutting drywall even though they did not do proper tests on initial visit. Also 2 contractors and insurance adjuster all recommended drywall removal immediately based on amount of water and time water was in basement. (these guys are supposed to be experts at this???)
Overcharged for fans and humidifiers (claimed way more than was needed in this case). Insurance adjuster told me overcharges were in range of $300.
Contractor never told us they were charging Emergency After hour rates even though we scheduled base on there availability 3 days after flooding. (We had already done the majority of work removing water, moving furniture and all carpet and padding)
Contractor again charged After hour rates for second visit even though they were done during normal business hours.
Overall charges for amount of work done was highway robbery.
PS State Farm Insurance RECOMMENDED them and now will not cover all the charges!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The other vendor left us with three color samples after we described what we thought we wanted.
The crew was punctual and pleasant every day. We knew them by name and it was actually welcome to see their smiling faces in the morning. The project finished on time with no hiccups. Every night they cleaned up the house and used our garage to store all the equipment. Outside, only work tables remained in the yard each night - all debris was placed in the dumpster they had arranged. All in all, it was a great experience. They even installed new exterior light fixtures for us that we were going to do once the project was over.
I would definitely give them a look."
