Home Remodeling Reviews in Aurora

The design stage was handled properly and professionally. The actual build and installation was a nightmare. The total job was scheduled for 3.5 months. As of month 8 it is still unfinished. The second bath is still unusable, Plumbing does not properly work, a window that was to be installed in month one has not been installed. Trim carpentry is still unfinished. Reliable promised professional trades and craftsman to complete the work in a professional, courteous and timely manner. We anticipated some setbacks and mistake, but nothing could have prepared us for the horror story that awaited. The workers that showed up were unskilled, unprofessional "hang and bang" types. Their attitudes and total lack of common courtesy to the homeowner was despicable. To begin with, sub contractors or supervisors routinely failed to refer to the blue prints. Framing, electrical, plumbing and tile errors and omissions where repeatedly made. Site supervisors never caught any of the mistakes. It was the homeowner who caught all the mistakes. The actual quality of work completed is unacceptable. The plumber repeatedly failed to follow blueprint specs. The toilet and tub were installed crooked and out of plumb. After eight months the shower diverter
does not work, and the toilet does not flush properly. The tile installers failed to follow the ABCs of tile layout which
to noticeable errors and omissions. Their failure to protect the newly tiled floor
to unrepairable damage. Despite an available dumpster, the tilers disposed of all the liquid debris in our newly installed landscaping killing some plants. The trim carpentry quality is unacceptable, gapes, crooked and loose moldings are the standard. All the moldings had to be taken down and redone by the homeowner. When all these problems were brought up to Reliable's attention the response was always one of excuses and pushback on the homeowner. Bottom line, the company ignored valid complaints and regressed in service.

I have used Geoff for a number of projects on our new home over the past few months and he has been wonderful to work with during the entire process. As with any home improvement projects, we ran into a few snags along the way and Geoff was always very professional and timely in his handling of the situations. He also put up with my indecisiveness at the start of our larger project, a master bath remodel, and walked me through each of my options. As for value, Geoff's quotes were always very reasonable and the quality very high.
I would highly recommend hiring Geoff for any home projects.

After researching many different suppliers and contractors, we chose
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
to do this work because he offered an excellent price, combined with creative ideas and input to the design and installation of our built-ins. The work required was extensive, including the removal of existing built-ins, plus some masonry work required to amend our brick fireplace to fit the planned new built-ins. He worked with a cabinet company to provide the base cabinet units for the new built-ins, but custom fit and installed the rest of the structure and all of the finished surfaces of the new built-ins (including TV and entertainment units' wiring) and a custom designed mantelpiece. He worked closely with us to make sure that we were happy with the each phase of the design as it was being done. The job took three weeks due to the delayed delivery of the cabinets, plus planned vacation time from the homeowners. At the end of the work, we are extremely happy with the finished product! The construction is very solid and secure, and the exterior surfaces were all finished to a very high level of quality, ready for painting and staining. We encountered a number of unexpected challenges during the project, and
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his colleague (
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
) handled all of them coolly and efficiently (such as the fireplace masonry work that had to be done), and he also provided some creative input on how we could improve the built-ins, such as by adding

electrical outlets inside the walls. We would highly recommend
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
for any construction, remodeling and carpentry needs that you have anywhere in the home.

We had a small wet bar insert in our family room, and contracted with
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
to remove it and install new dry wall over the insert.
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
gave a very reasonable estimate for the work and it the work was scheduled to be completed within a week.
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
did a good job of removing the wet bar without causing any damage to the house and removed all of the larger debris and waste items himself. While the wall was open and exposed,
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
took the initiative to suggest that we move plumbing and ductwork that was
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
behind the wet bar, in anticipation of future remodeling work that was planned for the future. After agreeing to the additional cost,
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his colleague went ahead and rearranged the water, sewage and HVAC ductwork so that they would not be an impediment to future remodeling work on the same wall. When the plumbing and ductwork was completed,
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
installed new drywall and did a very nice job of seamlessly mudding and finishing the wall so that it would be ready for painting (which was done by another company). Overall,
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
did a very good job in a challenging environment. After each day's work, he made sure that the room was vacuumed and clean before leaving the house, and he was always very clear on what he was doing and why. We were very pleased with his work and would recommend him highly for any future contracting work.

This operation went extremely smoothly with everything according to instructions and contract. The job started promptly and ended with a complete clean up.

will fabricate, or have fabricated, wood components that "handy men" will not touch. He has a complete wood shop and does not hesitate to use it if required....More /> I also am a woodworker and very critical of what others produce, but as a professor of computer science, I do not have time or the additional labor to do what I require
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
to do and
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
does it very well.
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
has done other major remodeling projects for us including a loft library with a spiral stair case that we are very pleased and proud of. I suspect Mr.
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
is too because he was able to work from my sketches and verbal instructions while I adapted that major project along with his suggestions. There are few craftsmen that can use and discuss abstract ideas ahead of a drawing. I appreciate this quality. I would not hesitate to use
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
again. Our association in projects goes back perhaps 20 years.

All work was completed on time on budget and to my satisfaction. The place was left in a clean and orderly condition when the work was completed.
An overall quality experience

It was awesome. We met with
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and he got to know us, our lifestyle and what we were dreaming to do. He walked through the house and he came up with creative ideas, many we would NEVER have come up with ourselves. He warned us that the things we were most apprechensive about would probably be our favorite things, and he was right! He has a great vision. I also like his honesty. If he thinks one of our ideas would look hideous or wouldn't fit with the overall plan, he let us know it. He would also tell us if what we were thinking wasn't worth the money ( from his experience). He's not a "yes" man... he just tells it like it is. I think this is one of the qualities and benefits that set Design First apart from other companies. It puts them on an entirely different level.
After we decided upon the overall vision, we worked with
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and she helped us with the details of the design. What could have been an overwhelming process, she helped guide us while still letting our vision come through. Our project manager,
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
, was the BEST! I can't imagine getting though a remodeling project without him. If something comes up, he was just a phone call away and fixed any problem. Were there delays? Here and there. Of course! When you are dealing with a project this big, that happens with whoever you hire. Nothing big and no big deal. What I love about Design First is that they truely care about quality. If something wasn't up to their expectations, they would do it again, or fix it until it was... even if it came out of THIER pocket. I like their integrity.
Bottom line, you will find design/remodeling firms out there that are cheaper. I can tell you from experience, Design First is the way to go. They are honest, creative, and will give you something even better than you dreamed
p.s. Design First worked on a few other houses in the neighborhood, and each one is better than the next. I especially love what they did to a friends master bath. I have no idea how
Aurora Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
dreamed up the unique layout... I'm saving my pennies so he can do something special to mine!

Salesperson is wife of installer and while very pleasant has little technical knowledge. We wanted epoxy grout; especially for the shower. Is it more expensive? Yes, the material costs increase. In our case it was about $250 because we choose a pebble shower floor and wall niche.

Is it harder to work with? Not for a professional installer. Installers need to work faster because of the epoxy set up time which requires at least two helpers... This is why I wanted to hire a professional. I used it in a powder room without any issued but didn't feel comfortable with the master bath.
Why epoxy? Because it's bullet proof, no staining and REALLY easy to keep clean. If you are considering a large glass door or steam shower you had better pick epoxy or you will be sorry. Downside for epoxy? None.
Quite frankly, their bid of $8,692 for a 8'3" X 7'2" bath and a shower stall was extremely high. Remember, this was for the regular grout. Note, their price didn't include the tile. It did include the shower door and heated floor. The shower door allowance was for $850.
We ended up selecting a different contractor that works for a flooring store. They are expert epoxy installers who by the way didn't charge any extra labor for the epoxy. The price ended up being lower but I don't shop merely on price. I want top pf the line materials and workmanship-- otherwise I could do it myself.

The contractor offers a 5 year warranty while the store we selected provides a Lifetime Warranty. Of course, it makes a difference that the store we selected has been in business for almost 70 years. We choose a top of the line shower door with clear shield for $1,013 from a separate company.

Mitigator failed to test walls for moisture before determining proper treatment.
After calling and asking for moisture readings they then came back 4 days later and determined they were borderline so removed 2 ft of drywall and insulation.
Sprayed basement with antimicrobial treatment to keep mold from from growing.
Charged for work in bathroom they did not do. - later changed on bill (Trust factor now at zero)
Charged for drilling walls AND for cutting drywall even though they did not do proper tests on initial visit. Also 2 contractors and insurance adjuster all recommended drywall removal immediately based on amount of water and time water was in basement. (these guys are supposed to be experts at this???)
Overcharged for fans and humidifiers (claimed way more than was needed in this case). Insurance adjuster told me overcharges were in range of $300.
Contractor never told us they were charging Emergency After hour rates even though we scheduled base on there availability 3 days after flooding. (We had already done the majority of work removing water, moving furniture and all carpet and padding)
Contractor again charged After hour rates for second visit even though they were done during normal business hours.
Overall charges for amount of work done was highway robbery.
PS State Farm Insurance RECOMMENDED them and now will not cover all the charges!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
