"Very pleased with service and quality of the work. They were able to come take a look and give a detailed quote and plan within 3 days, then came back to complete" work 6 days later. We modified the design plan resulting in a lower cost and the crew was very amenable to our preferences and knowledgeable about how best to carry it out. Guys were polite and made a good impression. Ran a little behind schedule both days, but called to let me know their arrival times. I would recommend them for similar jobs.

determined we had such a small repair, he didn't feel right to charge us his normal minimum charge! What a great way to do business!" He told us he would send out someone right away. Their office called right away to schedule someone and they came out on time. The person who did the repair ensured we could see the work completed even though he didn't need to. Very profession, know their business and would definitely call them again along with referring them to others.

Angie's Answers

Mold in a basement is a common problem. My company helps people with this every day. Some of the answers you received were helpful but not all the information is correct. First, you need to eliminate the two main ingrediants that mold needs to survive. The first one is water intrusion. This is a must. I am assuming you have no water intrusion as you make no mention. The second componant that needs to be eliminated is moisture. Moisture is also humidity. Basements need to be kept airtight in the summer months. Some folks have posted that you need air flow in your basement. Nothing could be furthur from the truth. When you open any windows for example, not one micron of air goes out of the basement, Warm humid air is sucked into the basement. Houses suck air into the basement and it meets the cool surfaces and skyrockets humidity. The windows must be kept closed and a dehumidification device installed to ensure humidity stays below 60% humidity. The dehumidifier should be energy star rated and purchasing a seperate humidity guage is a must to monitor the unit's progress. We like to keep our customer's basements at 50% humidity. This eliminates the smell that is active mold spore growth. Once the water and humidity is brought under control. Remove the organic materials that have mold on them. Walls, sheetrock and studs that have been affected. Follow the advice of previous posts as you must ensure that you do not affect the rest of the home. Once removed, install new walls using as much inorganic material as possible. We also install vapor barrier over the walls and seal the floors to stopwater vapor transmission into the basement. Poly plastic is not a acceptable vapor barrier. It is not "zero-perm" and will still allow moisture transmission. It will also crack and break into pieces over the years. A PVC liner rated "zero-perm" is the correct product in this application. Depending how large the basement is and if it is sectioned off will determine the dehumidifier strength. We use the Santa Fe line of dehidifiers as they are super energy efficiant and work like a dehumidifier on steriods. I hope this helps and I wish you the best in Basement Health!

Where is the home located, what is the exterior wall construction and type, how is the space heated?

It could be a whole host of different scenarios that would generate that result.  It is nearly impossible to tell but I would say that most basement moisture problems are a result of bulk moisture intrusion or condensation issues.

Given the deep and hard winter this year, it could be a condensation issue that hadn't previously been shown.

From the initial visit to the house by
Alton Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
, to the final day of the project, the crew, headed by Project Manager,
Alton Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
, was efficient, prompt, neat, polite, knowledgeable. A very large endeavor that was amazingly completed - on time (4 days). The containment process included sealing off the area of the lower level not affected, as well as walling off the spiral staircase to the main floor. There was a minimum of dust, etc. which I was very thankful to see. Very impressed.
Thank you,

The rep was on time. He looked a the crack plus other parts of my home, not only in the basement but also outside. He gave advice on avoiding additional water damage. He was thorough and honest. I would do business with them in the future but for now I think their a bit too expensive for me at this time.
- Zaida R.

Staff arrived as planned. I was given a three day limit for the project. They were neat. They removed all debris. Work was completed as promised. I would recommend them to anyone needing a sump pump installed. Their warranty is for the life of the house. I was very, very pleased. The new concrete is level with the old.

We had two quotes for this job, and ARW's was the most reasonable. We have worked with
Alton Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
Bird and his company before and were very pleased with the work. We planned to expand our home with two different additions, and we needed to correct the negative grade sloping into the west side of our house. The area in which the ARW crew had to work was very constricted, and the cement for the footers on the west addition had to be transported manually from the cement truck due to space and access problems. This was very demanding, laborious work that also required a great deal of skill in order to match up existing foundations with new ones. The mason was very professional and took great pride in his work. All work was performed as agreed in a timely and professional manner. All trash was removed from the job site upon completion of the work. The retaining wall looks great, and we were very pleased with the slab and the foundation. I would highly recommend ARW for any type of foundation work or water problems.

is AWESOME! He contacted me within minutes of leaving a message for him and came all the way across town (over an hour) to check out our problem within a couple of hours. The downstairs toilet tank had broken and water had run into our crawl space via an air vent in the floor. Our crawl space is encapsulated so we had some standing water on the plastic within the space. I contacted him late in the afternoon and after checking everything out, he said he would return the next morning to ventilate the encapsulation, which would allow the water to drain into the ground. He was here as planned and got the water cleaned up, re-sealed the lining in the space, and re-checked everything before leaving the crawl space. He said everything would dry out very quickly and we should not have any further issues. He even offered to come back by our place the next time he's over this way so he can verify that everything is still in order. I asked him a few questions not related to this project, and he was happy to answer and offer any information/help he could. He even offered suggestions and helped me talk to the plumber about toilet replacement options. The cost of the work was VERY reasonable. I would hire

installed the two walls as instructed and was supposed to put caps on top we paid for 68 caps to be put on top of the walls when he was completed.
Alton Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
did not finish the job he only put on 35 caps and took the rest with him. The caps cost $6.12 each.
Alton Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
also took with him about 8 retaining wall blocks with him that I paid for they were $7.82 each. On the fire pit, the fire ring was supposed to be centered, it is off about ten inches and he was supposed to put re bar in the rail road ties to keep them in place he told us that he would do that , he never did. I have tried calling

Provider was very professional and spent a good amount of time going over everything - options, work that would be done and cost. Answered any questions that I had. I have not gone ahead with the work at this time but would not have any issues with hiring this company.

was fast and efficient and extremely conscientious about treating our property with care. We had dreaded this job and anticipated a lot of destruction but it went very smoothly and we are completely satisfied with the work. Bill

and his staff were courteous and thoughtful, going so far as to lend a hand with carrying groceries to our door when our driveway was not accessible. Bill also contacted a professional arborist to determine the best plan for dealing with uprooted trees and shrubs. Quality workmanship from a quality company. We highly recommend
