was friendly, knowledgeable, and listened to my concerns as well as answered all my questions. The measurements we're taken at 11 a.m." this morning and I received an e-mail estimate an hour later with a follow-up phone call from
. I eagerly paid my deposit to get construction of my door under way and look forward to the next step when my door is ready for install. I expected the entire job to be a few hundred dollars more than the estimate I was given. With what we asked to be done, you can't go to a hardware store a purchase a new door unless you want the same $800(+install) security risk glass slider.....

"He spent three hours that day on the doors (outsides only), and the result was mottled, light and dark wood, color change, spilled stain and the fact that the doors" no longer looked like a set. He said he had to return for a second coat at additional expense, to smooth it over. He returned and spent another 5 hours, not on a second coat, but completely sanding down the door, removing all that was done in the first 3 hours. After a total of 8 hours, the doors looked worse than ever (see photos). That's when the excuses began. "It's an older door." "Maybe you should have hired a woodworker instead of a handyman." "We can paint the door (covering the natural grain of the wood) , free of charge." "You can buy a new door at your expense and we will charge you to hang it, but we will stain it for free." The starting price for double entrance doors start at about $1,700.00 , plus hanging and staining. We had wanted to begin showing our house weeks ago. Now we are nowhere ready.

Angie's Answers

Hello - I hope my answer will help point you in the right direction.

The reason you're having a hard time getting clear information is because there are hundreds of companies saying their window is the best. There are probably millions of different features you can choose to have for your windows and in price ranges from $169-$1200 (per double-hung window).

I've been in the business for 15 years and have seen many different window products from many different dealers and manufacturers. This all comes down to: "what's important for you and your home?" If you want a strong warranty from a company who has a full-time service department to give you piece of mind and service your windows should needs be, or are you looking at only those companies who offer true wood interior windows that you can paint or stain to match the home decor? Whatever is your hot-button, then that's where you want to start.

I would recommend you first choose how you want your new windows to look. Wood-interior with vinyl clad is only offered by certain companies, while there is a vinyl woodgrain finish to give you similar results without the maintenance. If you're only looking for a white interior and don't want the maintenance, a fiberglass or vinyl window would be the best choice from what is offered in the market today (vinyl will be less expensive - not necessarily cheaper quality). If you are going to change out a window to a french door and a door to a window, then you WILL NEED to find a contractor with some carpentry experience. Some companies will tell you upfront that they do not handle those sorts of remodeling projects due to the complexity and time it would take to get it complete.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to personally help you with your project as we work in the New England Area. However, if you wish to talk further, please feel free to email me at: sven@ritewindow.com and I'll be happy to let you know our prices for what we offer so you can compare and hopefully find a similar company to do the work for you near the Austin area.

Get your roofer back out there.  Course of shingles above the window need to be pulled, self sealing flashing, drip caps, and counter and step flashing are going to be required here.

This is a flashing issue as the window connects to the mansard roof surface.

Condensation and a leak are two different and very noticeably different (i.e. volume) things.

Flashing and roofing on Mansards can be tricky but is sounds very much like a roofing issue.

Much easier to scratch and typically not as good a finished quality as compared to glass.

Benefits are the resistance to breakage as mentioned by LCD.  Any glazing shop should be able to re-create that panel.

For a broken window (or leaking seal in multi-pane unit), for a standard roughly 2x3 foot window, can run from low of about $75-125 for single pane to more like $200-300 range for triple pane, depending on construction and any special ultraviolet or heat reflective coatings. If a removeable window unit, of course cheaper to remove it and take to replacement glass place then have them come out, measure glass size, order glass unit, then come back to install.

If taking in yourself, commonly they can do single-pane in an hour or two, but count on a week or so typically for sealed double or triple pane unit to come in, so you will have to seal the opening in the interim. That is an advantage of having them come out - they measure and determine type of unit on first visit and can seal with tape and plastic sheeting (if you have not already done that), then come back with new unit and install a week or two down the road - but you are not stuck with an opening in the wall for a long time.

this compnay again Some of the cracks came back within a few days. I was impressed that i did not have to fight to get the contractor to return. The area later started to crack in the same area and other areas so not sure that it was due to their work. I did not call them back. One of the workers did chip a tile and came to us and told us about it. He did not try to hide it. He repaired the tile. I would use this company again because they were professional and honest.

We hired Mr.
Sandpoint Door Installers Provider Name Locked
a second time because he did such a great job the first time with our entry door replacement. As with our first experience, He and his crew were prompt, courteous, and meticulous with their work. They also made every effort to clean up after their work was completed. I have already recommended him to neighbors and will definitely work with Mr.

again for any future needs.

My car was getting water inside the car when raining which I thought was from not closing well the door. At last rain noticed that the rubber seal of my door is very good regardless it's age, and that it must have been coming from another source. Checked the seal of the windshield and saw that it was considerably separated on one area. Called the insurance company who asked this location to come back to repair. The repairman did not want to fix it at my office and said that I did not have to be there because he was an expert. Left the vehicle in my house to fix and since did not used it after the repair so it would really take and nobody sat on that side of the car, now noticed that the roof cloth material was left outside the rubber seal molding that holds it. The main office did not care to call me back when I left the message and when i called again, told me that I have to talk to the repair person directly who is not the expert he demands he is and much less customer friendly.

Everything went extremely smooth from the get go. I tried to call a couple of the big window companies in the area to get quotes and they were $100 more expensive per window, not only that the time frame was between 2 to 4 months to get them installed which is completely unacceptable. When I called
Sandpoint Door Installers Provider Name Locked
, I choose them based on price and the fact that I wanted the drafty windows taken care of ASAP. But the quality and service were more than I expected. They told me it would take about 2 weeks for the windows to come in (they had to custom order them) and they would be able to get them installed a week after that. Well, sure enough after 2 weeks they called me and asked what day would work best for me for them to come and put the windows in. The window installation team was extremely knowledgeable and gladly took care of little extras for me that weren't in my contract such as taking down the blinds and putting them back up and moving the furniture. They asked me if I would be able to give them an honest review of their services to help get their name out there, and I would enthusiastically recommend them to anyone.

Has with the first install it went great!

Very professional
Very neat
On time with no issues

Windows and door look great

City permitting was slow but that is not their fault - besides that we have no complaints.

I would use them again.

I highly recommend them.

It's great to have someone like
Sandpoint Door Installers Provider Name Locked
fix something that was a headache for so long. He's so good at what he does. After purchasing a "deal" from Angie's List,
Sandpoint Door Installers Provider Name Locked
emailed and called me to schedule an appointment. He was right on time on the date of the appointment. He came in looked at the job and went to get the pieces he needed from his truck. He communicated what he was going to do and he showed me the old and replacement pieces while working on the sliding door. I'm extremely happy with how easily the door opens and closes.

Great job, thank you.

He was always on time, always called ahead of time as requested, was professional and did an excellent job in installing my new french doors for me. He is very knowledgeable and informative and takes time to explain things if there's a different way that may be more cost efficient. He's very good about advising if there's a request that will cost more money. I have been very pleased with him and his workmanship and will be calling upon him again in the near future for another project. My next project will be to install new siding around my entire house along with some extra exterior repairs. He also did an excellent job in installing my ceramic tiles a couple years ago and is very efficient!
- Connie K.

It was excellent! The doors are beautiful! They provided good installation. This is the second time I've used them. Around nine years ago I had them do siding and they did excellent job then as well. They clean up after themselves and it was a good experience.
