"The delivery crew never showed up. By 5:30 on the 22nd, I called the business for an update, yet the answering machine was turned off and no message could be left. After several phone" attempts over the next hour, finally someone answered and told me they had written down the 23rd rather than the 22nd. A reschedule date was arranged for the 23rd at 10:30 A.M. The delivery crew was an hour to an hour and a half late and we had workers in our home completing some remodeling work. The delivery crew upended the desk outside in the yard before bringing it into our home. They touched up the nicks and moved the desk twice to two different locations as to avoid other workmen. The desk was placed up against furniture or cabinets and no broken leg was obvious at that time. The delivery crew left and when the remodeling crew finished their work, they began to replace the four contracted pieces back into the office. Upon lifting the new desk, I noticed the right rear leg was at an awkward angle. The remodeling crew was unable to move the desk into the office and was instructed to place it down in the dining room. I pointed out the awkward leg and one of the men stated that the leg was broken and I needed to contact the furniture store about the problem. Upon closer inspection, the leg was not only at an awkward angle, there was a splintered piece on the back of the desk. I contacted the furniture store and they scheduled a tech person to come out at 4 P.M. on the 24th of October. The tech person was to evaluate the situation with the leg and either tighten it or, if needed, get a replacement for the broken one. Again, there was a no-show. By 6:30 I had to phone twice and was told the tech person was on call, running late and would not be able to come out until the next day. A third reschedule was set for 1 P.M. on the 25th of October as I told the manager we would not be available in the morning hours. While out, I noticed a phone message on my cell phone and after checking it found that the tech person had arrived in the morning, found us unavailable and the next schedule would be for Tuesday the 28th. After checking the message at home, the tech person reported a scheduled time of 10:30 A.M. rather than the 1 P.M. time. After calling the store again, I was told that they can not guarantee an exact time and that we weren't home when the tech person showed up. Upon reminding the rep that he was told we were going to be unavailable in the A.M., I told him to send the tech out by 1 P.M. as scheduled. He refused. After having a heated exchange over the company's inability to meet their delivery and meeting times, I demanded that the broken desk be picked up, returned to the store and our account credited. The representative refused to do that and eventually stated that no one would be sent to do anything concerning the broken desk and he hung up.

"As you can see it did not go well. It appears to me that there is a new standard in merchandise; and cost does not insure that the customer will receive quality for cost. I finally" just gave up on trying to get what I had paid for.

1) contact local furniture store that handles and repairs recliners. Frequently, even if they do not have the exact spring, they can come up with a pair that is close enough in length and stiffness that you can swap both and get satisfactory performance.

2) google your local barcalounger dealer - they might be able to get parts or keep a few common ones like springs in stock

3) write the company - Corporate Address: 400 W. Main Street, Suite 210 Morristown, TN 37814 It went bankrupt in 2010 and was bought by HPC3 Furniture Holdings - manufacturing in china now but distributing in US.

4) Google the phrase - barcalounger parts - there are a number of companies listing parts for sale, including springs

After over a month, the situation was finally resolved. The General Manager was polite, but the Manager of Customer Service was extremely rude and abrasive.

When all of our furniture had to be made, the guy who had sold it to us never turned in the order because he had some questions on the fabric so we were sitting there waiting. I called them couple of days after when I was supposed to receive it, he said it wasn't turned in. They said that it was a bad mattress that we purchased so it should be a a week or ten days turn around time but it turn out to be two months. Imagine the frustration of waiting and you have to follow through. They made it better by discounting something else that we bought.

When we sat down with the sales woman we stated that we're interested in a specific sectional. She informed us that it did not exist because it was not listed in her reference book. When I asked if that page could have been misplaced she said "listen to me, I have been doing this for many years and that I know what I am doing". After turning a few pages the page was there. No apologies or even an oops was either vocalized, expressed or implied by the sales woman. At this point we knew we would not purchase anything through her but believing the end justifies the means, we wanted to at least get an understanding of the sectionals from this grouping. The sales woman could not even read the manufacturers templates and began to assert her belief that we were wrong and she was right. Subsequently, I pointed to her the diagram in her book showing that the pieces we wanted was in fact shown on the diagram. Based upon the rude behavior towards us and the lack of knowledge of their inventory we left and went to a prior visited furniture store that showed us the courtesy due us as customers.

WATCH OUT FOR RETURN POLICIES--I returned a mattress for a lower priced mattress and they would NOT give my money back OR a store credit. They just said they are keeping my money and it was too bad. The female owner denied ever meeting me and discussing return policy. She said the comfort guarantee comes from the manufacturer and the store had no obligation to return the difference of nearly $400.00. And they were nasty about it too. -BTW-

The morning the movers were here to take furniture to Upscale, the owner called to say she was upset I sold one item to a friend and she did not want ANY of my furniture anymore. The movers were here. I apologized for any miscommunication, though I had told her the friend might buy the piece before, but she would not talk to me.
The movers said she has done this to others.
If you choose to deal with this store, be on your toes!

I contacted the store to see if they had what I needed on the floor; and they did. We drove to them, it was serviceable and we liked the product. The salesman was nice too. They called and emailed us the time frame and day to let us know when they would be delivering the piece. They did deliver the wrong piece from the warehouse, it was the wrong bottom, so we did have to send it back and I was disappointed. We finally negotiated a free delivery so that was a good thing in the end.
