"They did a great job!
came on the weekend to give us an estimate and carefully explained what they would do with our project. The estimate" was clearly itemized so we could have easily decided to do just parts of the work. (We opted to have them do everything that they bid on.)
was very punctual, friendly, straightforward, and just a really good guy. We left a key with them and they completed the job over 2.5 days while we were at work, which was exactly the amount of time
said it would take. They left everything cleaner than it it was before the work. The work was well done--it's clear that
and his colleagues take great pride in their work. We'll definitely call them again the next time we need painting.

came to my house within days after I had contacted her through a mutual friend. After hearing my ideas and considering my" own tastes, she made suggestions for color choices. In addition she demonstrated that she had excellent tastes in interior decorating. In less than three hours we had chosen the four colors that we would use and I had a floor plan for arranging my furniture in very creative ways. Before she came, I was very conservative about what could be done, but she convinced me that I could be more rambunctious with my decorating.
started painting on January 12th and completed the work on January 21st. She is a very meticulous worker who pays attention to the tiniest details. In between she also shared decorating tricks and solutions for cleaning problems. And the best part? She used the furniture and accessories that I had on hand! I love the results. In my opinion,
deserves the highest rating possible. In fact, I'm already making plans for having her paint the two bedrooms.

should painting or florring come first in a remodeling project (Photo by member Jane A. of Alpharetta, Ga.)

Remodeling tip: Should painting or flooring come first?

Angie Hicks responds to a member who wants to know whether interior painting should come before or after the installation of hardwood flooring.

Utilizing the proper tools can ensure the best paint job possible.

Interior Painting

Professional decorators say painting is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to dramatically change the look of a room. It's also one of the more accessible do-it-yourself projects for the homeowner, though a professional interior painting company will likely do a better and more long-lasting job.

Before you toss it, check the label. Some hazardous items — even batteries and ink cartridges — should be disposed safely, which doesn't mean at the curb! Why?

Have you ever had a leaky roof leave a water stain on your ceiling? Has your home settled over the years and you are starting to see stress fractures and nail heads popping out of the drywall?

These are the most common problems with ceilings, and unless they are addressed, they can be quite an eyesore. If you are ready to tackle the project yourself, follow these simple tips and you will have a freshly painted ceiling in no time.

Angie's Answers

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
Without seeing the project I'm not sure exactly what is happening.  HOWEVER, I've never heard of someone "floating" over paint blisters - just logically that can't work.  If air or moisture are trapped (because that's what causes blisters) painting over them won't fix the initial problem.

I have a couple suggestions - My first would have been to contact the paint manufacturer - whether it's sherwin williams, benjamin moore, behr, etc. to see if they would send a rep out to give their recommendation.  We have done this before starting a project to get the best possible recommendation for work to be done and have found them to be very helpful in diagnosing what is currently going on and the best way to fix it.

If that doesn't work, I would call either the better business bureau or maybe the local paper if your contractor isn't willing to work through the problem with you.  Also, If your contractor warrantied the work I might re-read that to see what they cover if anything.

My guess is that there will have to be some sort of dispute resolution process.

Hope this helps!
Yes - absolutely!  Refinishing is THE VERY BEST way to go to avoid tearing out a perfectly good bathtub that just LOOKS bad after years of use.  Go to the link below for some before and after refinishing pictures of acrylic tubs.

We were unsure on hiring someone to paint our new home. We thought it would be easy to do it ourselves, but with moving prior to the holidays and wanting to move in fast, we made a wise decision to hire a painter.

made an appointment and arrived on time and was able to give us a quote that evening.
He called later that week, the night before our room was to be painted, and confirmed the time and we gave him our paint color.

and a painter,

was very detailed and professional. We were extremely pleased with the quality of his work and the cleanliness of the area when he left, and he was very pleasant to work with.
He also put the cement board around the fireplace where we had torn up our existing tile. We were going to complete the fireplace ourselves and really appreciated

We would definitely recommend

was a pleasure to hire from all aspects.
Iowa City Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
came and estimated my house. Was very professional and honest, and has a great personality. I addressed my concern that prior staining (from an un-named firm) was a nightmare, aving of paint scraps around, dripping on concrete and roof, overspray on window and not matching the existing colors.
He throughly explained their removal and capture process as well as taping off of windows and opening. I also have snow melt cabling on two of my roof slopes, which he noticed and mentioned the extra care needed around to avoid damage.
The removal of the old stain went very smooth with no damage to the cedar, and incredibly no pieces of acrylic stain in the bushes, grass or anywhere.
The application of stain was very clean with no drips or stains anywhere. The heat cabling was not damaged nor painted.
The pair of gentlemen who were working on the house were very meticulous and knowledgeable. They noticed some of the old overspray on the highest windows from the prior painter which I was not able to reach to clean. They offered to clean those windows while they were up there!
It was a very rainy summer and spring and as a result, the process was delayed for about 2 weeks. Not

's fault by any means, they are at the mercy of the weather. But the great part was the owner,
Iowa City Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
, was in constant contact with me throughout the process. So I was never left in the dark of when the crew was coming to work on the project.
I couldn't be happier with the process, pricing and results. The house looks brand new. Very highly recommended contractor, give them a try.

is very professional and he and his crew did an amazing job restoring our deck. The crew was very punctual, hard working, and friendly. They cleaned up the deck and surrounding area after working. We will definitely use them again for painting inside our home.
We received several estimates for he deck and
Iowa City Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
quote was the most reasonable. This was the only company that said they would stain the outside of the deck (beams, railing and even the lattice work) so the deck would look great from the outside, as well.

The bath has a cathedral ceiling and skylight. The old paint had become flaky and was peeling off the wall in places due to moisture damage The process that

recommended completely smoothed out all the surfaces and provided a sealed base to prevent further problems with the paint.

Excellent! The owner was very busy but responded quickly and was VERY courteous and professional. The workers were courteous and fast. After the work was done, we found a few spots that needed a touch and they took care of this quickly and without any fuss.
